  1. Last week Fujiboy was talking about image size and fade times etc. As usual the forum gave lots of helpful advice. However one of his messages gave lots more information and it got me thinking. I thought it would be good to do an actual test along the lines Fujiboy stated. On the 20th of December I accidentally spilled 500ml of liquid over something. I kept it knowing that it would come in useful (It did)!!! 3 weeks ago I advised a friend that good value for money was the FUJI S602Z, which he did then actually buy. Over the weekend I borrowed the Fuji camera (No manual to read though) and took a series of photos with a particular point in mind. Details mainly for Fuji Boy but others may be interested. I took a lot of close up shots (all hand held by the way), used the 3Mb Fine setting which saves files about 1.2Mb in JPG size. Then as we had all advised resized the pics to 800 * 600 and added a few corrections, used an old midi file and put the whole show together to fit on 1 floppy disc. The result is this show, which is not perfect but gives a good idea of possibilities that can be quickly done, hopefully looks ok but shows that good quality can be achieved on the screen with a bare minimum of space. Generally 70k per pic. www.Beechbrook.com Show is called “Folio” For Fuji Boy, the 6Mb setting does not actually help a great deal, the TIFF files it saves are actually interpolated and massive and it would be better if they had used the 3MB setting to make straight TIFF files rather than JPG’s, but I shall still buy one when I can afford it! By the way the close ups I did of a dead hard disc head are stunning. Mike Mersea Island
  2. Rod I have to agree with Jim I personally felt insulted by your comments, Igor does not only his best but more than any other software developer that I have known in 30 years. His presence on here keeps us all in touch with the very heart of the program and there is no way that he personally can answer every single issue. I am surprised that he does so much and I would like to apologise to Igor on behalf of all of us. Mike Mersea Island
  3. Hi Fuji Guru and others on here will tell you, 200kb is reasonably ok but smaller is better, but also memory and space counts, all have to be sorted to get it right, please tell us your full program details Mike Mersea Island
  4. Another thought, how much RAM does your machine have? I have found this has a lot of influence on how programs run, a system with twice the amount of memory as the original exe file seems ok, anything less is a problem. So your 125Mb file really needs at least 256Mb ram. So you really should look at reducing your file size. Mike Mersea Island
  5. When you say some of the jpeg files are large, how large do you mean? If you could reduce your file sizes and as Guru says your mp3 size then you may start to get a reasonable size to run. Mike Merseal Island
  6. Yes Lumenlux This guy Al is so good A real backup to Igor Mike Mersea Island
  7. Surely A show represent the creators feelings and should not be interrupted! Lets say we stop "JAWS" just at the interesting bit? Point 1 whose interesting bit? Point 2.......so many people are so concerned about their photos being ripped off and as I have I said before its not the photos its the idea that counts. Mike Mersea Island
  8. I ran it and noted the error message and just copied the sound file to a newly created directory with the required name and Viola, job done. Mike Mersea Island
  9. "The results will simply "blow you away!". IMHO, at least!" Yes too true Al As hopefully Fields of Fire shows. In its original form everything was dissolves, that's all we had (apart from cuts) with 35mm projectors - albeit 3 projectors which PTE cannot emulate, so continous dissolves are impossible (How I wish we could with overlapping). With the PTE version I did add 2 extra effects because they added to the overall feel, one is so subtle it is better than the original. But to have added more would have spoilt it. Same odd adage 'Less is More' Mike Mersea Island
  10. I have to agree with JRR, 'create main menu' we should do ourselves and not clutter up PTE with things we can do. Keep PTE clean and lean and let it do the things it does best. Mike Mersea Island
  11. Welcome to the club, now that you made your wav file, convert it to MP3 and save space Mike Mersea Island
  12. Hi Guru The zoom facility in Glob is actually excellent and requires very few resources and in my tests against PTE is stunning for the right events mike Mersea Island
  13. Hi Kim I do think Guru in his usual style has hit on the problem here. A 1Mb PTE file is really very large and must contain thousands and thousands of lines. Other shows I have done with over 200 pics have never got much beyond 50KB PTE file size. Wheter its wav or MP3 makes little difference to PTE file size, that affects EXE size. So the question is? what is going on to make your PTE so big? Mike Mersea Island
  14. I too just tried Beechbrook and got Password etc., I was bewilded. I did not think I had one! Very confused Mike mersea Island
  15. Its easier to refer to it as the root, ie the empty bit that all the other folders go into. It is not a folder itself just the container for anything else. so you just copy your things to the CD and they are then in the root. Mike
  16. Brian you have summed up all the best features of PTE, Versatility, price, value, support and a great community. The Best value on the net Mike
  17. Unfortunately not, you have to resynch, but if you note your existing timing points, lots of info on here about that and progs see alrobin, then you can quiclky redo the show mike
  18. Slides shows become so boring after a few shows!!! Any presentation in what ever format can become boring after a few showings. If it is a good presentation then it will stand up to repeated viewing. Without wishing to boast my own work, 'Fields of Fire', this is a show that I have been showing in its original format and now in PTE for 22 years, not once in all that time have I ever become bored, or even more importantly have those viwers that have kept coming back to view it time and time again. Igor and PTE have now given me the possibility to have the show viewed by a lot more people. Lots of flash razmataz does not necessarily make a better show. Mike
  19. Yes I experienced the problem too but can see Admin has answered it thou I have not yet tried it in Ver4 but will do on the show I am working on Mike
  20. A Nagra was my aim too...Now it seems to be Viagra! mike
  21. I have found PTE both exhilarating and frustrating, but all the time I have found it exciting. It enables me to express my ideas (not fully admittedly) but by intergrating with other software it does the job. After all my 35mm projectors (all 3 of them and all the associated electronics) never cut and spliced my reel to reel tapes, so why should PTE also edit my sound? Its horses for courses. Use everything available to make the best you can. Hopefully you should soon be able to see my presentation on beechbrook soon. Mersea Mike
  22. Thank you Ken, Michel and Rudi Mersea Mike
  23. Most of yesterday I tried uploading a presentation to Beechbrook, unfortunately it does not seem to want to do it. So I sent Bill email asking for advice, which he kindly replied to. I tried and tried and all that seems to happen is that it says it is uploading on the bottom of the screen, gets to 100% after 3 mins then just sorts of hangs there. I emailed Bill again and he sugested that I email the neceesary bits and pieces to him as attachments and he would work it from there. Great I thought we had it cracked. Ah ah, AOL will only allow 16MB as an attachment and the show is 20MB ( and weeks in programming, frustration now increasing). Bill then suggested that I split it up into smaller segments and he would reassemble at his end. So my question is, can anyone help to point me to a program that will split it up? Many Thanks Lloegyr Mersea Mike
  24. Academic really, who would want to run something else whilst running a presentation? Surely that detracts from the whole idea. Mike
  25. Actually its only really to do with contrast, fading from black to white or the other is always jerky I have found, but if you fade from mid range then there is no problem. Yes machine speed plays a part but far less than the contrast ration
