  1. It would be great if PTE had a circle geometric primitive. I can simulate a circle by rotating object rotated 1 degree, then copying object, and pasting 180 times. It is a very accurate circle but PTE must rotate 180 objects to create. Zoom effect slower due to large number of objects that must be scaled and transformed instead of 1 object. Other method might be with use of circular mask but it would still be nice to have a simple circle object with lower computing requirements.

Test circle created by rectangle rotation.

  2. PicturesToExe is all about displaying your photos and videos at the highest quality possible. The ability to create both Windows and Mac compatible slideshows is fantastic. Multiple import and export options. The font quality is amazing. The transitions and animations are smooth and accurate. Recently I created a simple Windows screen saver of the ocean from a short video captured on my digital camera and someone at work noticed it running on my PC and asked me for a copy. Then a few days later someone else at work noticed it running on his PC and asked him for a copy. PicturesToExe is for hobbyist and professional. The development team listens to feedback and continues to add new features. Highly recommended.

  3. Hi,

I usually burn video presentations with Ulead MovieFactory 4 instead of Nero Vision 4. I think it might be slightly easier than NV4 to create a dual data/video disc, since it's a single step process. I was going to buy MF5, but the download demo was corrupted so I didn't follow up on the purchase.

When it's time to burn the disc, there is an option to add other files to the disc, including a data folder of your media. PTE5 can also create a single zip file of everything used in the project.

When you are testing the data/dvd method, you might want to create a short video and use the nero image recorder option to create a nrg or iso image file of the DVD. Then you can use a free mounting program that will create a drive letter from the nrg/iso image. I sometimes use virtual daemon manager 3.47. Another one is slysoft virtual clonedrive.

  4. I'm sorry for your family's loss.

Last year I made a pte presentation for a friend at work to take to her mother's 80th birthday party. The daughter had scanned all of the photos from her family's photo album. I printed out two pages of thumbnail images from Irfanview, and she numbered each image in the order she wanted them to play.

Everyone received a copy of the DVD which had the pte source files (high resolution images) in a data folder in case they wanted to make prints, the pte .exe file so they could view a higher quality version on their PC monitor, and 15 minutes of video with soft music all on a single disc. It was really nice that her mother could watch the video without needing a computer.

It was a huge success for such a small amount of money (a few dollars for the discs). I think the data including video was only occupying about 25% of the total disc capacity.

  5. Hi,

It seems like PTE video codec is not active. Are you sure you are keeping the small window with the title Making of AVI video file open with the Finish button when you import the video into NV 4? I tried it with the same versions of software and it works fine.

The pte video output window must stay open because the pte video codec is not a standard codec. If you close down pte output window the video codec vanishes and you will only get a black screen with audio.

  6. Slide-show and Visual editor - both use new graphical engine.

By default if hardware allows, DirectX engine is prefered. On more slower video card it automatically use CPU based engine.

If you want it possible to manually choose engine for your slide-show (DirectX or CPU based) in Project options.

However it's impossible to mix these engines - only some one engine for entire slide-show.

But as I wrote we will not release final v5.00 if some problems leaved unsolved.

So a slide-show created using the DirectX engine on a fast graphics computer can also be played back on a slower graphics computer using the CPU engine? I realize that it will not be quite as smooth though.

I'm hoping we will not have to create two versions of the slide-show, one for DirectX and one for CPU playback.

If a compiled slide-show/screensaver is smart enough to test graphics speed in real time and select a playback engine by itself that is very cool.

    thanks,

  7. hi,

What I created is a sample presentation with a couple of buttons "remove file" and "save file". The first button "remove file" deletes a file and the second button "save file" creates a file my hard drive. I'm using really basic actions cmd /c "del c:\dir\filename" and cmd.exe /c "echo hello > c:\dir\filename"

Yes you do see a flash when the command window opens for a few milliseconds. I spent maybe 2 minutes creating this presentation, and spent no time trying to make a destructive presentation. I'm not going to delete/modify actual files to verify that it can do damage. It's not a virus, more like a trojan. In a trojan presentation (if possible), the button name might be "print" and when clicked it would delete files from your hard drive or some much more sophisticated. I am not aware of any AV software that would detect such a trojan presentation.

I admit I'm new and clueless as to how members and support staff communicate on this forum. I'm not upset, and hope no one else is either. I apologize to anyone that was offended by my questions or raising undue alarm.

I was hoping somebody from wnsoft support would jump into this thread, but apparently they are all working on the latest beta (which is great by the way).

  8. I have requested wnsoft tech support to comment on potential security problems back to this forum.

I really like the program, and want to recommend it to others without reservations. I find this program to be a very good method to display photos taken with my digital camera. I also enjoy looking at slideshows that other people have created.

If nothing else, it might be nice to request an enhancement to the software so that we can run slideshows with a safe mode option of some type, that disables the launching of external apps. I think if they add the pan&zoom effect that everyone wants, this software will grab a much larger % of the slideshow market.

    thanks,

    tom

  9. I did a little more experimenting and was able to create and delete files on the computer. So theoretically someone could create a script file over multiple slides and run it on another slide! Not good.

I'm hoping the playback engine in the .exe can be updated to give us the option to play or disable external applications spawned by p2e.

  10. I like downloading the sample slideshows from the web. It gives me ideas on how I want to create my own slideshows. At the same time I don't to worry about what possible commands are being run on my computer. I'm sure there is a way to fix this so I can sleep at night (it's 12:27 am local time :-).

The cmd window pops up briefly, but there is probably a way to disguise it by running another window on top or something as devious.

  11. sorry, still learning how to use this cool program.

Is there something I'm missing or can anyone post a pictures2exe .exe file to a web site that deletes files off my hard drive?

I created a sample button (or transistion/end of show) that can delete files.

shouldn't the cmd /c or cmd /k, format, fdisk ... not be allowed, or do we trust the public hosted presentations?

  12. Hi,

I'm still learning. Is there a way to create blank slides so I can add a title slide or credit slide? The only way I can think of is to either create a transparent alpha image or create my own slide in photoshop. There must be an easier way to do this. The gradient fill is so cool I want to use it on my text only screens.

    thanks,

    tom

  13. Thanks. I just realized that I can use the Windows M shortcut key to minimize the presentation and click on the speaker icon in the system tray. I will definitely try the utility program. I'm still learning how to use the slideshow program. It has a lot of hidden features. The audio quality and smooth transistions are amazing. I found a small problem with the 4.40 beta #3 with left/right page curl timing, but the effect is awesome.

  14. Hi,

I have a computer without a manual volume control on my speakers. Are there keyboard shortcuts to change volume level during the presentation? Maybe something +/- keys or arrow keys? I did see an enhancement request about passing volume parameter. Sorry if this is a real simple question. Still learning, but this application is the most fun I've had with my computer in a long time.
