  1. Thanks, Sergey. It will be good to have some groundrules on this, and clear up the apparent inconsistencies.
  2. Hans, I too have a problem playing a wide-screen dvd (created with Video Builder) on my 4:3 tv set, from a dvd player. No problem with playback on the widescreen pc or laptop, though. I have had no problem burning up to 3 separate PTE shows at one time with Video Builder.
  3. The short answer is "yes" - see schedule of development from Igor at: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....73&hl=vista The current beta is already compatible.
  4. These images are amazing, Bernard! Thanks for sharing with us again!!
  5. John, The fact that it only occurs during the first second or so of that slide leads me to believe that on your system you are experiencing some interference between the objects on that slide and the transition to the slide. I have made that observation quite often (particularly with moving text) if: (i) I have some program running in the background, or (ii) if my monitor is set to a resolution much higher than that of the slideshow I am trying to run. In my case, the problem shows up as a momentary discontinuity in the movement of the text objects at the end of the transition and at the start of the next one. I've mentioned this problem to Igor, but haven't pursued the matter as I can easily change the monitor resolution, or reduce the load on the pc by closing out some other programs. I imagine if your video card was an older vintage, with insufficient RAM, that you would notice it more, too.
  6. I agree with you! I had to give up my Commodore 64 as it wouldn't run the new MS Office programs. But how wonderful that many comparatively powerful computers are so inexpensive and readily available these days!
  7. John, I don't see any shimmer on that image either (viewing at 1280x768). Maybe it is there only for certain monitor resolutions?? There is a very slight shimmer on some of the panning and zooming images, but nothing serious, as a certain amount of this is to be expected, particularly when the images are sharp.
  8. That's great - looks like the Board may be implementing Igor's requests.
  9. Hi, Jim, Welcome to the Forum! This subject came up about a year ago, and it was determined that it is not possible. However, with v.5, maybe this will change?? Ciao, Al
  10. John, You certainly put a lot of effort and creativity into this show! I don't think I have ever seen such a realistic simulation of falling snow - very clever! The lone Canada goose flying over was well done, too. Just one little thing disturbed me while watching the show - the flashing bright transitions between the slides. Otherwise, very nice to watch.
  11. Dave, I enjoyed your show - lots of bright, dramatic colour! On my system, with images this large, there is a very slight discontinuity on panning and zooming images at the point of the end of the transition to that slide and at the start of the transition to the next slide. Otherwise, the PZR effects are slow enough that they are very smooth.
  12. At one time, a "quick" transition was simply a "fade" with a fast transition time (hence the name "quick" instead of "cut". You can still set this in Proj Ops, by choosing "Fade" and a time of whatever you want (say 10 or 20 ms)..
  13. Looks very professional, Maureen - a big improvement over the old site! It should be easier to keep updated, too, and add new information as it comes along. Now comes the big job of populating it! You didn't have anything else to do over Christmas, did you? Hope you have a Happy one.
  14. Jandra, Along with the exe file you are trying to start, you probably have included the path spec, and since the show was created on your pc, it can still find the file in it's folder, even from the CD, when used on the same pc. However, if you move that cd to a different pc, the path name no longer applies. The best way to reference the CD files is to eliminate the path spec for each exe file, and refer to each by the file name only. Then be sure to include the exe files in the same folder (preferably the root of the CD) as the main introduction file. Hope this makes sense! Good luck!
  15. Stephane, I agree with you 100% on this and have asked Igor to please incorporate this capability. Once v.5 is complete, it will be possible again to look on the timeline to view the precise timing of the music crescendos, beats, etc., make a note of the positions where the corresponding key-points of the objects should be, and then go back to the O/A menu to implement these (by using the timing information at the bottom of the O/Awindow). This is still an awkward method, however, and very time-consuming. One other method which you could use in the interim is one described by someone on the Forum some time ago. This person opens a sound editor side-by-side with PTE, and uses it to determine where in time a particular transition or effect should be positioned.
  16. Sorry, here is the link I forgot to attach to my post: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....l=reg\.key However, since you don't seem to have any of the possible key files, you will have to obtain another one from WnSoft. Keep trying, and best of luck!
  17. I agree. This whole discussion brought a little story to mind. (Sometimes, in an argument, one's points are best made through a bit of humour - please don't take anything here personally). There was an old man sitting on his porch watching the rain fall. Pretty soon the water was coming over the porch and into the house. The old man was still sitting there when a rescue boat came and the people on board said, "You can't stay here you have to come with us." The old man replied, "No, God will save me." So the boat left. A little while later the water was up to the second floor, and another rescue boat came, and again told the old man he had to come with them. The old man again replied, "God will save me." So the boat left him again. An hour later the water was up to the roof and a third rescue boat approached the old man, and tried to get him to come with them. Again the old man refused to leave stating that, "God will save him." So the boat left him again. Soon after, the man drowns and goes to heaven, and when he sees God he asks him, "Why didn't you save me?" God replied, "You idiot, I tried. I sent three boats after you!!"
  18. Gordon, Check to see if you have a file called "REG.KEY". The registration key appears under different names, depending on when you first registered. Mine is called "PTE.KEY". Without it, you won't be able to re-install PTE if you move to a new pc. Crystal, Here is a thread with some information about the key. Check to see if you have a program called "REG.KEY" in the program folder. You won't find the registration number information in the "Help" menu. Igor will probably come to your assistance as he follows these threads in the Forum. Best of luck!
  19. Barry, Of course you can do this in PTE. (see my tutorial, "PTE-101" on Beechbrook - it's not synchronized, and I used narration for nearly every slide). You can superimpose narration using the "Sound" line, over whatever background music you have running. But when I developed the tutorial, in those days you couldn't even see the timeline if the show was non-synched. If I were you, I would use the "synchronization" option. Then you will be able to visualize the slideshow from the timeline, and also tweak it from there to make small changes to the timing for each slide. If you use this option, it will override any custom timing settings you have selected. The main problem with using the timeline in this case is that you can't hear the narration when you "Play" the timeline preview. However, you will hear it if you use the "Preview" button on the timeline window, instead, to preview the show. With this button, you can also replay the show from the transition you have selected without leaving the timeline view, or without replaying the entire selection. You also get a full-screen preview instead of just a little window, but of course you can't see the timeline when you use this option. It would be nice if Igor would add the ability to listen to the "Sound" insertions when previewing on the timeline. (hint, hint! ) PTE 4.48 handles synchronization better than most other programs I know of, and it is a lot easier than it may seem. Best of luck!
  20. Yes, it's a 20" Dell hi-res LCD screen - not a particularly expensive version, but does the job - I particularly like the wide-screen aspect ratio - it accommodates the usual 3:2 camera aspect ratio better than a 4:3 monitor. If I open your "autorun" show and then close it, everything works just fine. It was after "browsing" through the different menus that I ran into trouble. I doubt if I could even replicate it again.
  21. Barry, If you are not synching the show to music, forget about the timeline, and just concentrate on making each slide the right time to fit the narrative. The times shown are not the same, especially after you have made some changes. The timeline is used in synced shows in order to be able to "tweak" the times between transitions, and the durations thereof. In the new version 5, this discrepancy does not occur. But the catch right now is that you can't add narration for each slide separately at the moment in v.5.
  22. It looked fine at 1680x1050. Everything lined up the way it looked like it should be. However, I had to take the "Ctl-alt-del" route to close the black screen.
  23. Hey, Lin, That's very clever! Amazing potential, this new v.5!
  24. I, too, at one time preferred to have my shows viewed at the size in which they were created. However, now that we have v.5, with superior up-sizing algorithms, I would much prefer to have the objects and PZR effects behave the same on all (or most) monitors rather than have to request that the viewers change their screen resolutions to suit. If you have a show at a much smaller resolution than most monitors, it would perhaps be better to create it in "windowed" mode than force the viewer to watch it at a certain resolution or have it automatically resized.
