  1. Bill, Many thanks - I FULLY understand that you are only hosting a link. I have heard from Dave and will make arrangements with him. It is not so much wanting to see the show as understanding why SOME have no problem any others do. Also my problem appears to be a different problem to Tony's (With the same PTE show). The question remains - why? Thanks to all, DaveG
  2. Hi David, I think that it is probably to do with Win-Zip which I don't have. Like Tony Falla I get the invalid/corrupted message on one machine and on my laptop I get: "Please insert the last disc of the Multi-Volume set and click OK to continue" Pity, I had heard good reports of this one. Maybe it's a Welsh thing?
  3. To get this one back on track: Bill, Do you have a problem with ELY? Ken, If you read the original post again, I said that I have tried it direct from Morturn's site - same result. (The Sunset Show mentioned above opens and runs OK - Music by the Wes Montgomery Trio - Canadian Sunset - One of my favourite Wes tracks!). DaveG
  4. Hi all, Has anyone else had a problem with opening the ELY show? I have downloaded 3 times (via Beechbrook and direct from Morturn's site) and on each occasion I get an error when trying to open the zipped folder. It says it is either Invalid or Corrupted. Any ideas? DaveG
  5. No, that was either Richard Penniman (Little Richard) or Charles (Chuck) Berry.
  6. I always create any text elements in Photoshop and therefore save them as part of the JPEG file. I rarely use the Object Editor for this purpose. It is possible that the Fonts used by the Object Editor would be affected but I cannot see how the Fonts in my Photoshop created Text would be affected?
  7. Yes Ken, Same goes for fonts. NEVER assume that anything you create on your machine is going to work on any other machine where PP is concerned. You can however (with fonts) choose to "Embed True Type Fonts" which takes care of that problem. Same does NOT apply to Codecs. I repeat, if you are not going to use your own machine to do the pres then checking it well before-hand on the machine to be used is advised. The font problem should not affect PTE exe files?
  8. Don't forget that the appropriate codec (for the movie) must be available on the machine neing used for the presentation. If you are using the same laptop, for instance as the PP was constructed on you should be OK. If not the presenter needs to TRY IT before the date of the presentation - MOST IMPORTANT! I have been through this with students many times - just because it works on one machine does not mean that it will work on all machines.

Hi all, Firstly, congratulations to Maureen for the masterpiece that she created from our submissions. I thought that she was an extremely brave person to take it on in the first place, but the end result could not have been better. The music chosen was right for the original idea and reflects the feelings of us all. I think it fair to suggest that if anyone has a similar idea in future he/she should be prepared to take it to a conclusion himself/herself! As for this debate about the technical aspects I will merely say that it runs perfectly on my P4 3.02 with 512 RAM Laptop with iffy graphics card (Igor is not sure that it will cope with V5). BUT, it also runs acceptably well on my P2 450 desktop with 64MB of RAM - (FROM A MEMORY KEY!). So please, no more about this! There is obviously nothing wrong with the show. If it does not run to your satisfaction on your machine then I think it is safe to say that it is your machine that is at fault. I want to raise one aspect for debate though and it applies not specifically to this show but to all shows which are offered for download. I think I am correct in saying that Maureen took our 1024x768 images (that is what I submitted) and made a show with the fit-to-screen option enabled? (It plays full screen on both my laptop's 1280x1024 monitor and my desktop's 1024x768 monitor). The end result is that I can see some degradation in some of the images on the 1280x1024 screen due to the upsizing which Igor has said PTE does not handle very well. Personally, I would prefer to see my 1024x768 images (in my own shows) presented at 1024x768 and strive to ensure in my shows that what I created is what the audience sees. Any comments? Daveg
  10. Hi Roger, Toggle "F" on the keyboard. Dave
  11. Question for Igor: All this talk about Graphics Cards is confusing me so I have to ask a direct question. I have a Pentium4 3.05GHz Laptop with 512Mb of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go 64M Graphics Card. What sort of performance can I expect from this when Version 5 is available? Thanks, Dave.
  12. I'm not sure if this will be of any help Brian, but I made a template a long time ago, in Powerpoint which allows the dropping in of images (usually oversize) which can then be manipulated to fit the guide lines I created. If you want a copy just say. The results are accurate and never vary. Dave.
  13. In Audacity you can acheive this by opening a file and then IMPORTING your second file. Perform a FADE OUT on the first file and a FADE IN on the second. Then slide the second file along so that the fade in is overlapping the fade out. Generating silence is an easy way to slide the second file along underneath the first file - if you go too far simply delete some of the silence. Once you have it as you require export to MP3. I always advocate working on WAV files and then saving to MP3 when you are satisfied with the result. DaveG
  14. If you just want to get it from A to B use: http://www.Dropload.com DaveG
  15. FS, Can you post something at Beechbrook or elsewhere so that we can assess what you perceive to be the problem? DaveG
  16. Hi, You are going to have to explain your problem in a little more detail? As was explained to you in a previous post, if your D70 files are reduced in Photoshop to 1024x768 with a file size of around 300-400Kb, you should have ZERO pixelation like everyone else. Make sure that your show is set to 1024x768 in Project Options / Screen (use Windowed Mode without border) and that "fit to screen" is OFF (unticked).
  17. Agreed Al, But I was talking about maybe 2 - 3 HOURS of Web Cam Video per trip to give an idea of what they are capable of recording on 20 GIG. Sad isn't it? DaveG
  18. If you are talking about your desktop machine it will probably have a stereo LINE output jack on the sound card which will feed into your amplifier. Make sure you have the appropriate stereo jack to two phonos lead. If you are talking about a laptop then you can use the HEADPHONE output in the same way - same lead. I do this regularly. Daveg
  19. Al, ipod and similar units like the Archos have up to 60 GIG of memory so I don't think that space will be a problem. A friend goes out biking on weekends and records every trip he does via web-cam and Archos Storage Device. No problem - AVIs are small compared with MPEG etc. DaveG

OK - I have "done it" !! From the number of responses that this thread has generated I expected that there would have been many more submissions. Come on guys - let's support Dave. DaveG
  21. I think that only something like PowerPoint will allow you to go to any slide from any other slide. DaveG
  22. Geoff, Are you inviting critique? Dave
  23. Try again, but this time start with EVERYTHING related to the project - the project file, the images, the sounds, the exe etc IN THE SAME FOLDER. If that does not work please come back with more info. Dave

Dave, Has a closing date been set? I have not submitted yet and do not want to miss out. DaveG
  25. Hi Bill, I'm not sure that I understand the last comment you made, but are you aware that you can select a GROUP of slides (by clicking on the first and shift-clicking on the last in the Timeline) and synchronising the group to any section of the music required? DaveG
