  1. I did some checking with this AVI file  on my Samsung BluRay player and Samsung TV.

    * Samsung BluRay player said the AVI file was unsupported.

*Samsung TV played the  AVI file ... but  message display indicated "Not Supported Audio Codec"

    Tests

I opened PTE and  dropped in just the original AVI file. Re-Published as a  new AVI file @ 800x600 30p.

    * Samsung BluRay player and  Samsung TV played the new AVI just fine without  any  message issues..

  2. I did make several DVDs in 2016. The situation is that many clients still request DVD copies .... even though I offer them the full array of the other publish formats.

I have asked some of them why they also prefer DVD discs over other video formats. The simple answer was it has menu capabilities whereas the other video formats do not.  They were willing to sacrifice the output quality vs the flexibility. PTE DVD quality was still very good for their needs.

  3. Bert,

You must not have looked in the right place. Old Slideshows from the past (formerly on Beechbrook site) are listed on the Archives of Slideshows tab (at the  top). Only the new slideshows (since the closing of Beechbrook site) appear in the  main window section of Slideshowclub.

I found your old slideshow upload quite effortlessly.

  4. You may want to first try this:

Sometimes its necessary to Save the previous version PTE project file in the current version of PTE program you are using. Sometimes PTE program advises this in a message-box when using the file in Video Builder ... but not always.

    * In your case, your  v7.5.6 PTE file should be re-saved in the v7.510 program. Use File | Save As (with a  new name) so as not  to overwrite your orig project file.

    * Open that (v7.5.10) Save As PTE project file in Video Builder to be burned. Verify its results.

After I checked all the boxes, I did get the F1 key to bring in one 'custom window'. Not sure how useful this is. But I'd like to see someone using this option. Not too intuitive....but thanks for setting me straight. I am looking for Lin's tut but no luck so far. Why have multiple 'custom windows' when you can only get Window1 to appear?

    Gary

    Gary,

You have only one keyboard F1 key ... so that only entitles you to one Custom Window as your F1 selection.

To access your other prescribed Custom Windows .... you need only any Object with Action on Mouse -click that selects your prescribed window. Very simple ... just like buttons in a menu if you prefer.

Example 1: Create a F1 Custom Window that opens. That F1 window contains multiple clickable action objects which in turn accesses your other prescribed Custom Windows,.Goto Slide w/Name, Run SlideShow or what other actions you desire. Why you need it and how you use it is up to you and the type of project you are creating.

Example2: Say you want details, info etc about each individual slide in your slideshow. Create a Custom Window for each Sllde. Use Object with Action on Mouse -click on the  main image ... the user then need only click the Sllide  to reveal the prescribed Custom Window of your details . Therefore the  user can cleanly view your  project without any details displayed on the Slide or just  click the Slide for its details at their  option.

    * Again, its your imagination of how you can use it and apply it to your particular project needs. Yes, it takes some work to create something Custom ... but the final result is what you put into it.

  6. Igor,

In addition to my last post about Custom Window using Video:

Since you are disabling the Video object function ... you might as well remove ( as in v8) or disable the Editors bottom player button functions. Inadvertently selecting the buttons at any time freezes PTE.

    Thanks

  7. Gary,

To use F1 key option to open Custom Window

Make sure once you create | customize your named custom window ... to enable both check-boxes as highlighted in yellow as per attached image.

    * you only get 1 choice Custom Window when using  F1 Help type window.

    * review Lin's tutorials ;)

  8. Gary,

I use Custom Windows quite often .... they  are especially useful in manual slideshow projects. They dont  offer much purpose to users who build auto slideshows with the  keyboard or mouse disabled. You use| make it just like any other single Slide ... except it has no animation or video features.  You call up the Custom Windows thru the keyboard F1 key at any time or thru Action on mouse click to open a  specific Custom Window you have already prescribed.

You can add images, text, Butons (with its actions) ... use it as a information window about your slideshow, a always available slideshow menu with a click, or whatever helps you in the navigation and display of your project.

*For Auto Slideshows I may use the F1 key to launch the (Help) Custom Window.. I usually enter text info about the slideshow, slide count, type of slideshow, build version, etc.Pretty much any info you may. require. This is quite useful at later dates when build versions span years

    * For Manual Slideshows I program the Custom Window(s) to act as a Menu or navigation guide to aid users. These projects are usually company tech manuals or how-to type stuff.

    * Custom Windows are a uniquely helpful tool in navigation of manual slideshows.

Hope this starts you off ... then let the imagination expand to show you its possible uses !!!

  9. Igor,

My question is with Custom Windows and Add Video feature in v9 betas. (I remember when it was first disabled in early v8 beta testing and never implemented in final version)

I noticed this feature has now been activated in v9 betas. However, after successfully adding a video file ... the O&A window  has lockup issues when I try to play in O&A timeline. Adjusting Time Range of video produces no changes as adjustments wont hold |retain any input.

Is this Add Video feature to Custom Window(s) now suppose to be available and functional ?

  10. It is possible in v8 to have borders enabled for all slides additionally added to the Slide List without use of Templates or Styles. However, there is a little catch of how this is achieved. Once you add your first and only image to the Slide List ... goto O&A | Enable Borders checkbox and then just press the Save and Use  By Default label.  ( see attachment ) Once set,  now all additionally added main images will have the same border as your first slide. ( Note : You cannot turn the Borders on | off for all images at the finish of a project )

Now with V9 betas .... the O& A tabs are still incomplete in their features, settings and selections. As I do not see the Save and Use By Default setting currently available or  implemented ... yet.

  11. Igor,

Just to clarify details of my discussion :

Yes, I understand the EXE file contains the vector data of the text object. :)

My whole discussion has been about saving the Project File and when the custom font used is not available or no longer installed on the PC ... re-publishing the EXE will not contain/display the correct text/font data. The EXE will publish correctly when I used the option "Rasterize Text to PNG Image" because the Text.PNG file(s) supplied the data. Thats why I suggested "Users just now need to be more aware of their custom fonts availability when saving project resources for future/storage needs."

Is there something I missed ?

  12. Jeff,

PTE does not supply, install, or embed Font file(s). You need to install the Font(s) into your new PC Fonts Folder.

    * The "Rasterize Text to PNG Image" option allowed the TEXT object to be converted to a PNG Image. The PNG Image only contains the typed text entered ... and not a full character set of the Font used. The PNG Image text content can not be edited with new text characters because its just a image.

  13. Thanks for the info ... I understand.

Users just now need to be more aware of their custom fonts availability when saving project resources for future/storage needs. The feature did resolve the font issues and performed its task well ... even though many users probably never fully understood its purpose.

  14. Has the O&A -  Rasterize Text to PNG Image feature been removed from v9 release ... or yet to be implemented in current beta testing ?

    * The feature is valuable when saving project files for long term storage (BU Zip, Template, etc) and opening up for publishing at a much later date .

*I generally  temporarily Load Fonts and not permanently install them when starting a custom project. Other PC's will not  correctly show the custom font unless I rasterize the text. ( I know that  rasterization is  not required for initial publishing ... but  it is required for later publishing when the font is not currently loaded or installed on any PC.)

  15. Igor,

Is it  possible to include within the project Back-Up Zip in v9 releases ... the "WnSoftFolderInfo2.ini" file ?

Making a Template of the project creates the image rotation info file.

    * v8 also does not include the image rotation info file within the back-up zip ... however it is included when creating a Template of the project

    * I recently created a 300 image slideshow with v8 which had several images requiring rotation ... when transferring the BU-zip to another computer I had to manually include the rotation info file.

  16. Dave,

There was minor discussion with Igor when this issue was first discovered/reported ... but I can not remember any of the details that were posted as to why it was changed. I did check some of my old versions and see that the issue first appeared on v5.6.

As to being greyed out on the first slide ... or a  pop-up notice warning users on first slide application of the feature is not possible. The pop-up notice warning could be displayed when ever the feature is enabled or labeled on the Slide Options panel.

    * Since Run Slideshow was first introduced in v5.6 ... that may have been part of the reason of the change.

  17. Denis,

I suspect you are using objects (buttons, etc) to launch your external files from the first SLIDE and not the Slide Options | Run External Application checkbox ?

I would like to make it clear to users that I was referencing only the Slide Options | Run External Application  checkbox feature which is automatic ... and not objects (buttons, etc) which are clickable. (See Image)

    slide_options.jpg

  18. Just as a additional reminder to users wanting to use Slide Options | Run External Application feature :

Its not possible for the Run External Application feature to launch on the first SLIDE of your slideshow project (in case you are having  problems)... use the feature on your second SLIDE (or following slides) for it to execute. (It use to be possible from the first Slide many versions ago ... but this has changed now)

    * Some PC OS may also require you to enable PTE's Project Options | Screen | Non-Exclusive Fullscreen Mode setting. Otherwise the launched application may be displaying underneath your slideshow..

  19. jt49,

concerning your command line string :

    "C:\Program Files\MPC-HC\mpc-hc64.exe" "D:\videos\MyVideo.mp4" "/fullscreen"

MPCHC does not seem to accept file switches within double " "  when used with PTE... as  your "D:\videos\MyVideo.mp4" "/fullscreen"

*Your full file string should work like this  :

    "C:\Program Files\MPC-HC\mpc-hc64.exe" D:\videos\MyVideo.mp4 /fullscreen

    ------

*or as Denis extra switches which guarantees the video player closes once the video file ends  ... which is much better for control ... should work like this :

    "C:\Program Files\MPC-HC\mpc-hc64.exe" /play /fullscreen /close D:\videos\MyVideo.mp4

    -----

    * for users finding this all so confusing using switches in command line strings ... its also possible to set the MPCHC options to launch files  in Fullscreen. (See image) . Its just not as flex able when it concerns other wanted control.
