If in future version we add multiple tracks for visual objects (images/video clips) it should work same way as audio clips:

Totally agree that visual objects should work in the same way as audio.

However if next slide will be image with its own transition, freezing of a video will happen again (due to increased full duration).

Yes, I understand this will happen. But as John mentioned two moving images dissolving looks awful and would be marked down in any video competition or club. Even a moving image over a still image rarely works well. The only time it can work is with videos of static subjects, such as buildings or landscapes, as long as there is no people or other movement within the frame.

To encourage good practice with newcomers, what you describe as freezing of the video is actually better than leaving it moving over the dissolve.

I know not everyone wants to enter competitions, but read anything about good video practice and it will suggest using cuts rather than dissolves.

If video people start using PTE, which we try to encourage, then they will always use cuts.

It is so easy in Timeline to adjust the following slide in either direction to achieve what the user wants.

KFSD is an awful feature. You change a transition time of a slide in its slide options, and the overall length of the show changes

I always recommend to give it a wide berth :)

jt49, I completely agree with you, personally I cannot understand why anyone would want to use it.

AV enthusiasts who appear to insist on a cut

Lin, I did not say that.

What I said was that video workers almost always use cut.
These are members of film & video clubs who work entirely with video clips & do not use still images or animation.
They mostly make dramas or documentaries using actors, or nature films.

A dissolve in these type of films(videos) just doesn't work

AV workers do use slower transitions, but between single still images.
For videos it is almost always better to use a cut.

Rather than confuse new users by having popup options, surely setting all videos to have a 0sec transition is much easier for them to get to grips with.

It is so easy to adjust the length of the transition in the Timeline, so if want a longer one they can.
I always adjust all the transition times to suit the subject & soundtrack.

  3. Would a better option be to make the default a Transition time of 0secs - a cut on all video clips ?
This is what any video workers would expect.

Then new users will not have to worry & experienced users can adjust the Transition time if they wish.

The most frequent comment we get when showing AV's to Video works is 'Why don't you use cuts?'
They are not used to seeing still images dissolving & expect everything to have a cut transition.

So for new workers, AV, Video or single image, having a default 'cut' on videos would make it much easier.

However I noticed that in almost all documentaries, TV shows, or professionally created videos on YouTube, if a movie has a Dissolve transition between two video clips, both videos are played together (no static video picture).

Professionals should have the experience to adjust the Transitions to suit the subject matter of each video.

  4. No, Please do not do this.

I never use KFSD & do not want to.
To me (& most AV workers) KFSD is never needed.
The Transition belongs to the 2nd slide (of any pair) & you cannot count that time twice.

Also Video workers always use cuts (0sec transition) & would never have a transition time on the 2nd slide.

It is very, very rare that you would ever want two video clips to have a Transition other than a cut.
It is the same with animation across two slides, it is very visually distiburing to have two things moving at the same time.

Please leave the KFSD as set by the user.

If someone doesn't want the static video it is very easy for them to drag slide 2 on the Timeline to cover the end of the video.

It would be an absolute nightmare if some slides had KFSD & some didin't.

  5. If the 'Adjust Time Range' window in O&A could be made a lot bigger (and resizable by the user), then this would help.
Especially if we could adjust the pointers by a Frame at a time.

But is still not easy to quickly adjust the timing of 2 adjacent clips.

Trying to think of a way to adjust (trim) the start of a video in the Timeline in a similar way to an audio clip.
Maybe by CTRL + drag or Alt + drag on the double arrow at the start of a clip, so it's position relative to the previous slide remains the same, but the length of the video is reduced.

  6. Igor, thank you so much for adding this excellent feature.
It will really help speed up audio production.

PTE just gets better with every new version.

As John & Gary have mentioned, the ability to quickly trim a video clip would also be extremely useful if at all possible.

    Jill

  7. Gary, you are much better taking something out of the middle of the audio, rather than trimming the start and fading in. A fade in never sounds right. Just like a fade out will also always be noticed.

If you must do it then just go into timeline view and drag the left side of the clip in to shorter than what you need.   Line up the end with the end of your slides and then drag the left side back to your start point. It is much easier to do it visually rather than trying to adjust the time numerically.

I do not like this position either. As I do not like to close the project from the O&A edition, I have chosen "Close editor" for the editor's X button. Now I have 2 buttons to close O&A, almost at the same position.

I also do not like the new postion of the Close button.
I have always used the X and never use the Close button.
Although I do know that some people always use the Close button.

Also I frequently use the arrows to move from one slide to another & feel the new position of the Close button could lead to accidentally clicking that rather than the arrow.

I feel anyone who has used PTE for a long time will still think of O&A as a seperate window & will continue to use either the x or close as they always have done.

For New users it could be confusing having both the X & Close so close to each other.
Maybe the button should say 'Close O&A' or 'Close Editor'  or maybe even 'Return to Main Window' and move it back to where it was?

  9. The option to record Voice comments is still present in Preferences/Toolbars.
I have this button shown in top right of my Toolbars.
Clicking the button then gives the choice of add audio or record voice comment.
Clicking record voice comment does nothing.

If the feature may come back then fine leave it, if not then the description needs changing in Preferences/Toolbars & the extra option to record voice comment needs removing.

  10. Many thanks Igor, the new waveform is a brilliant addition & will really make it worth upgrading to PTE 10.

Just a thought - do we really need the option in the Tools menu to show the wavefrom when you have added the button show/hide waveform next to the play/stop buttons.
Clicking this button is so much easier & faster than having to go into the Tools Menu.

I notice that the on/off selection in O&A also changes the option in Preferences/Editor. Again do we really need both?
I feel that just the waveform button in O&A is sufficient.

For the mixed or compact view would it not be possible to check which option is selected in Preferences/Timeline & use that?

I cannot imagine that anyone would want to change it and once set in one mode they will always work in that mode.
But no doubt someone will prove me wrong!

  11. Igor, I cannot get this to happen again.

I have tried beta 7, both with the hotkey & clicking Settings/preferences.
    It works correctly every time.

    I don't have beta 6 just beta 1.
I tried that & it worked.

    I uninstalled beta7, then reinstalled.
I unticked the 2 boxes, create desktop icon & associate PTE which I always do.
I ticked copy settings from beta 1.

It started in dark mode, so I opened preferences & clicked light mode (which was already selected).
Closed PTE & reopened - it opened in Light mode. This is what I did before.

I started a new project (which opens my default Template of 2 blank images)
I added a couple of images & a sound file & opened O&A - which is what I did before.
I clicked Setting /preferences & it worked OK.

    It now always works correctly.
If it fails again I will let you know.

  12. In beta 7 when I click on Settings/Preferences it is displaying the Create HTML5 Video dialog box.

Close this & click preferences again and the second time it does display the Preferences.

I have tried this several times & each time the first click shows the HTML5 video box.

I then clicked on Publish/HTML5 which displayed the correct box.
Now cicking Preferences seems to work OK.

    I closed PTE & reopened & now clicking on settings/preferences & nothing happens !!
Sometimes it works & sometimes not.

Closed PTE again & reopened & now it seems to be Ok
I will see if I can reproduce this on my desktop later as testing on laptop at the moment

  13. I have finally managed to have a look at version 10.
I am finding that not all videos are playing smoothly.

The first few frames are OK then it seems to stutter & run slowly, then will play OK again.
I have tried several all taken with the same settings - 1920 x 1080 50fps - on the same camera

4k videos are not playing correctly and are very jerky.
I used the Trim function to shorten it slightly.
The Trim worked OK but I had expected to see a window similar to the convert in V9 with all the functions and a larger window.
I know you are still wotking on this & hopefully coming up with an easier way to trim videos.

The converter/trim showed 100% complete but still showed time remaining as 2secs.
Also the Trim window showed in Dark mode even though I am using Light mode.

    Convert4K.thumb.JPG.66cd43030c50741bd55d1f46185239aa.JPG

Eventually the trim did complete after several seconds (much more than the 2secs shown)

In PTE file list the converted video showed as the VLC icon & not the thumbnail.

    310726282_ConvertIcon.thumb.JPG.c5d05b86d630859fad570efe3b64fec1.JPG

After closing PTE10 & re opening it did show the thumbnail for the converted video.

The converted video is smoother than the unconverted but not quite as smooth as when it is played in VLC Player.

In PTE9 the converted video shows as Not Found when dragged onto the Slidelist.

    ConvertV10.JPG.575b3b07cfbf9df057d0910d5a2a9763.JPG

But when I try to play it (right click in mini preview window) it does open up in fullscreen & shows the first frame then closes.

Also it is still taking some time to display all the thumbnails in a folder, although it is a lot quicker than V9.

    Folder is 8Gb in size

  14. If you mean   Converter of video clips for trimming then I assume this is what we had before when we had to convert video clips to insert them.

It would be much easier & faster if the start of the clip could simply be dragged to the right to shorten it as we do with a sound clip.

If it will just be the same as before, having to type in a time or move the sliders then we need a much bigger window to be able to see the video clip.
It would be great if we could trim it to an actual frame.
