I am over the moon with your reply - thank you so much for your help, and warm welcome

    I promise to try harder

    Thanks so much

    Chris

Chris, once you get used to PTE you will find it extremely easy to use. And as you can see from the replies there is usually more than one way to do things!

Get into the habit of saving the project with a new name every time you get to a point you are happy with.

Then if something does go wrong you can always go back to a previous version & start again from that point.

Play around with a few sample projects first before trying to make something major.

You cannot do any harm, as you can always not save the project if you do make a real mess.

Everything you do on a slide or sound file in PTE is only a logical change, your original files are never altered.

  2. We can drag & drop files directly from a Windows Explorer window into PTE Slide View.

However the order is not as expected.

It doesn't seem to matter how the files are sorted in Explorer, or what the Sort Order is set to in PTE, the files don't seem to end up in any logical sequence.

EG if Explorer is sorted alphabetically, so I get slide1, slide1a, slide1c, slide2.....Slide5c etc when dropped into PTE there is no logical order & I can end up with Slide2, slide2c, Slide5c, slide1a ......

They are not in date order either.

Does anyone know the order that they are dropped in?

  3. Willemx,

If you look at the Slide View (thumbnails) you will see two numbers on each slide.

The top left number immediately after the AB is the Transition time - ie the time taken for one slide to 'move' into the next slide.

The number on the bottom right of each slide is the duration of that slide (including the Transition Time)

You can easily alter either time by clicking on it & using the mouse wheel/arrow keys/or typing directly in the box.

You can also select multiple slides & change them all at once if you require the same times on each.

OR you can quickly amend times in the Timeline view.

You will see that each slide thumbnail has a grey bar above it. This is the Transition time.

Put your mouse on the end of the grey bar, left click & drag to amend the Time.

By left clicking on a slide thumbnail & dragging the slide you can alter the duration of the preceding slide (the White part after the grey bar).

It is very quick once you get the hang of it & by expanding the Timeline (CTRL+mouse Wheel or CTRL+F11 (CTRL+F12 to collapse again)) you can very accurately position your images.

To trim a video clip, add your video in Slide view, then click on Objects & Animation.

Click on the Properties Tab (right hand side of screen) You will see 3 times, Start Time, Duration & Offset.

Click on the down arrow by Start Time.

A new window drops down showing your video.

Under the video you will see a bar with an orange triangle above & a grey triangle at start & end below the bar.

Drag the grey triangles to the position you wish to trim your video, you will see the frames change in the window.

Note the new duration of the video & amend the Duration of the slide to match either by changing the number in the Slide view or by dragging the slide in the Timeline view.

It really is very quick & easy once you get used to it.

  4. Eric,

I think you misunderstood my reply.

Your test demonstrates what happens when each image in your project is different.

Now repeat the same test, but copy Image1 into your project 21 times. (or however many times you want)

So all 21 images are exactly the same filename.

See screen shot with 5 images all the same.

The image is 1mb so the exe file is just over 1mb (as it includes the Blanks & the PTE code)

If all 5 images are different then the exe is just over 5mb

  5. Hi Eric,

If you have 100 images in your folder each of 5mb & you use 50 of them. Your exe size will be 250mb plus a few extra KB for the PTE instructions.

If you use 20 images & they were all the same image, the exe would be 5mb BUT the avi would be 100mb (in round numbers).

    Hope this helps.

    Jill

  6. It makes no difference how many pictures, videos, sound files etc are in a Folder.

It is only when you include them into the Slide List that PTE adds to the exe file size.

Also if you include the same picture many times, PTE will only add the size once to the exe.

(But the size will be increased if you create an avi file or dvd output.)

  7. I have been using this program since it first came out. The key point is highlighted etc.. still no luck. (Rob)By move I mean moving left and right etc. I have had this problem with the earlier version also... I am using version 7.5.10.

    Any other suggestions?

Todd, Can you move the image by using the up/down arrows on the Pan field in O&A Animations Tab?

Just make sure that the Object is selected in the Bottom right pane of the O&A window.

The only problems I have ever had is when I forget to select a keypoint first.

Try posting a screen shot of the window & maybe we can spot something.

Sorry can't be of any more help.

    Jill

  8. I am trying to move objects in the O&A screen... I have even tried checking and unchecking the option (ignore object selected) in the TOOLS menu... to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Todd,

You need to make sure that you are on a Keypoint (the red dots along the Timeline in O&A)

Make sure that a keypoint is highlighted & the little blue triangle is below the red dot.

If you are not on a keypoint then the green bounding box & grab handles don't show & you cannot move the image.

    Jill

  9. Somebody made the suggestion (sorry don't remember who :unsure:/>/> ) but I think it has not been posted in the suggestions section :

Instead of having a still shadow, the ability to assocoiate keypoints to the shadows for a 3D effect.

Of course, you can add an image ( .png file) right now but it would much more convenient. :P/>/>

Igor, do you think you can make it ? :)/>/>

Also I would like to add an other suggestions to the "shadow" subject.

It would be very convenient to have the ability to apply a shadow to a group of son objects by just clicking the option to the father object.

I agree that these would be very useful if possible. Just to be able to turn the shadow on or off for keypoints would be great.

  10. If I wish to increase or reduce the duration of a piece of music I will either copy or remove a 'phrase' to get the required length.

I will then adjust slide timings to suit.

My sequences are always driven by the pace & mood of the music (or sound effects), along with achieving the best transitions possible trying to create third images. Both music & transitions are equal & both are adjusted to suit each other. I never know how long a sequence will be until I finish it!

Although I too have used 'Adjust Tempo' in demonstrations I very rarely need to use it in a sequence.

But there are times when I have, such as when I needed a ticking clock to speed up & slow down for example.

So yes, the stretch facility could be useful if easy to implement, but is not a high priority feature for me.

Something that may be more useful is change Pitch, which is needed if two pieces are not in the same key.

But then we are getting into Audio editing rather than Audio mixing which is what PTE is.

  11. From conversations with some UK AV workers, this is a potential minefield. If you want to be as certain as you can that the graphics-intensive applications are using the dedicated nVidia card then use the right-click menu to make the assignment. BUT... on at least one occasion in the UK, doing that still left the system using the integrated graphics. The hardware was eventually returned to the supplier and even their specialists couldn't work out why that particular system refused to switch the graphics over as it had been instructed to do.

    regards,

    Peter

Peter, I believe that you are referring to the incident that was reported in AV News last year?

That particular laptop had no way of assigning the high spec graphics card & it was always set to let the laptop choose.

That is why it was returned for a full refund.

With most laptops you can assign the graphics card of your choice by right click.

I have 2 graphics cards on my laptop & doing some tests I found that if you assign PTE to use the Nvidia card when making a

show rather than just when playing an exe show it is better.

So I have mine set to always use the Nvidia card for all versions of PTE that I have installed.

But in most cases the laptop will play even complex shows with the graphics set to Auto.

  12. You can't select them as a Group (something that would be nice to have)

But if you hold down the Shift key & then move the first one that you wish to move, all the clips to the right of that will move by the same amount keeping their timings to each other.

If you have any clips following those 12 then you will have to move them back to their original position by also holding Shift.

You can also move them by using the 'Offset' parameter in the Customise Tab of the Project Options/Music tab.

    But Shift is easier.

  13. IMO it could confuse matters to those of us using earlier versions. :blink:/>/>/>

    Yachtsman1.

    Why on earth should it?

If it is a separate section then you don't have to read it.

And it really is in your own interest to keep up to date with the latest version.

Otherwise you will have an enormous learning curve when you update to version 8.

    Peter,

I think a separate section would be a good idea.

Audio is a complete subject on it's own & keeping questions separate would be better.

    Jill

  14. Have you tried doing a soft edged wipe instead of a dissolve?

In Customise slide/Transition choose something like a Page effect & set the own thickness of smoothing line to a high number.

Give it a long transition time.

With a slow transition & a high smoothing line the mis alignment will be less noticeable.

You may need to play around with the numbers to find what works best.
