  1. Hi Igor,

I just uninstalled PTE 9.0.21 and installed PTE 9.0.20. I published the HD MP4 file with my usual parameters and it is again High@L4.2, so it will not play in my media player. So, problem seams not to be with PTE version.

I checked "converted.avi" files used to build the project and they are 100% similar (MediaInfo) to those used in former projects whose published MP4 file is 4.1.

This way, I can not understand at all what is going on. Why my MP4 files are High@L4.2? They should be L4.1, as before.

Please, try to let me know where am I wrong and how to solve this, as in this meantime I can not watch my new projects.

    Regards,

    Jose

  2. Hi Igor,

Till now I was using PTE 9.0.20 and the published HD MP4 files of all my projects show (MediaInfo) "Format profile: High@L4.1".

Yesterday I finished my first project using PTE 9.0.21 and respective published HD MP4 file show "Format profile; High@L4.2". When I copied/past this file to my media player (Popcorn Hour A-210) and tried to play it on my TV, as usual along the years, video almost freezes, audio gets not sync and mutes after a few seconds, video is intermitent, etc., it is impossible to watch the show. I spent a full day trying to see what would be the problem, trying use lower video bitrate, lower audio bitrate, etc., no way to solve the problem. At last, looking at Popcorn A-210 User Guide, I could see that maximum Video Decoder for H.264 is "High profile HP@L4.1" (not L.4.2). So, I think that this fact may explain why my MP4 file can not run in good conditions in my media player.

Now, I looked everywhere how could I change from L4.2 to L4.1 in PTE, but no chance. I always used in PTE 9.0.20 (to publish show) Custom > 1920x1080 > 50p or 60p > Bitrate 22Mbps > 2-pass encoding > 320 kbps > 48 kHz, and got MP4 files L4.1. These exact parameters I used now in PTE 9.0.21 and got L4.2. I must go on using these high quality parameters.

How can I solve this problem?

Would it be possible to create an option: L4.1 / L4.2 when publishing the MP4?

In this meantime, I can not see a way to watch and show my new projects. I will try to install again PTE 9.0.20 and publish this project with it, I don't know if it will be possible.

    Best regards,

    Jose

  3. Hello Barry,

Now I can see why your longest PTE project is only 17 minutes, as with this kind and amount of posts you must have little time left to create. Anyhow, thanks for your advice ("keep them short" based in "well known facts" within "AV circles"), I will try hard, even in case of documentaries, thank God for this exception! Will it be the case...?

    Best regards.

Thanks, I feel much better now, but better than feeling sorry for me. Get your big show posted somewhere so we can see it. If i’m wrong I’m the sort of person who will admit to it in public. So, the balls in your court.

I’m open to having my mind changed, although one show that breaks the norm is hardly representative of the majority. Why do people get so upset about this, the solution is easy. Put your money where you mouth is. That’s an English saying, which basically means prove me wrong. :D

Please, Barry, why should I be interested in changing your mind? I think you missed the point.

Besides, you may be right: just try, for example, to make a 51 minutes long "Hot in the City" (just an example, no offence intended...) and yes, it would fill everybody with dread, so, you are definitely right.

Best regards, for now, as I must get back to my long and dreadful projects.

How are your shows so big. The longest one I have is 17 minutes and as an mp4 @ 60p it’s 784mb. It’s up on YouTube, but marked private till my new site is ready, so I haven’t tried to view it yet on YouTube yet.

If I multiply it by 3 it comes to 51 mins @ 2352mb. However, it’s just stills no video in there.

May be the overall bitrate of your "Hot in the City", for example, is 6781 kb/s, Bits/(Pixel*Frame)=0,052 and my projects usualy are (example for a 51 minutes long) 23000 kb/s, 0,177 Bits/(Pixel*Frame), audio 305 kb/s -  48kHz (yours 251 kb/s - 44,1 kHz). As I said, most are 90% video, 10% photos. I think "video" is the main reason, not a slideshow but a movie.

What about that "PTE private channel" on Youtube? Any possibility?

  6. Barry, nice show!

I have been watching this topic with interest, mainly when it drifted into EXE or MP4 discussion. All my projects (mainly video, including photos as well) are MP4 HD 60p 30Mbps 48KHz, all 40 minutes or more, like 53 minutes, MP4 with 8,7GB. How and to where upload this? Not Youtube, as this kind of projects may be suitable (or not...) for PTE users, not for the public in general. EXE is impossible because they must be built in 4 or 5 parts, joined together at the end into a MP4 (problem of the actual PTE 32-bit issue). So, how to? Would it be possible to create a "special" PTE private channel in Youtube, only acceeded by PTE users to upload and watch their MP4 projects? I have no idea.

    Jose

  7. Just thinking: PTE was invented in the "old times" of pictures (= slides = photos), when people presented slideshows (made exclusively with pictures = photos = slides). Now, our so-called "slideshows" include more and more video clips, and with future v10 64-bit PTE will turn into the best 4K video editor (for me, it is already the best video editor although 32-bit version is a big limitation). The best video editor with similar capacities to edit video, as well as slides/photos/pictures. I think that this new ability could be explored. In fact, good video editors like VEGAS or PREMIERE would have to fight against a very big competitor like PTE. Moovie maker amateurs, perhaps professionals as well,  don't even know that PTE exist, they look after VEGAS or PREMIERE to find their editing software.

About changing the name, I have no idea if it would be a good step, but I think something could be made to extend the idea to video editing (videoshows).

  8. Copyright music... big problem!

I have been making big PTE movie shows for years always using soundtracks from great movie composers, from Charlie Chaplin to Hans Zimmer, John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Maurice Jarre, etc., etc., which musics I download from iTunes. I think a show (movie) must have a coherent music soundtrack from start till the end, in terms of melody and orchestration, and nothing better to achieve this than taking a professional movie soundtrack and using some of its content.

However, my movies are to be seen at home with my family and friends, or burnt on Blu-ray discs and offered to someother friends for home use.

Copyright rules should contemplate this kind of amateur private use.

  9. Igor, thanks for explanation, clear and complete!

Just one more doubt concerning PTE Video Converter: I can see that when a video is more "heavy", for example, a MP4 HD video clip with a high bitrate (example 30 Mbps), video converter does not show the clip (it keeps transparent), so not allowing to see it in order to trim it. PTE 10 64-bit will correct this?

    Thanks,

    Jose

  10. Hi George,

How many years ago was this MOV transferred from your camera to your computer? No more transfers since? Anyhow, did you try to play it in another player besides VLC? By the way, could you give all details of such MOV file (MediaInfo report)? I have no answer to your/our concerns about durability of our digital memories, but this is an interesting point to discuss. I never had such degradation in my oldest digital videos. On the contrary, my old BETA and VHS analog recordings, as well as photo Kodak slides and 8mm and Super8 films are degradating fast every day.

    Regards,

    Jose

  11. That is exactly what I am doing: I make several PTE project’s parts, respective HD MP4 files and concat them using FFMPEG without any reconversion, so keeping original PTE quality.

But it is not easy to decide start and end of each part, mainly because of audio connections, which can not be discontinued.

    PTE 64-bit is much necessary!

  12. Hi,

No, never tried. However, I never make EXE fiIes, only build HD MP4 fies of my projects.

Anyhow, could you please let me know what happens when we select such option? I mean, in terms of either for EXE files or for MP4 files. I presume that required memory will be less, but is this compatible with publishing MP4 files?

My computer is 32GB RAM, graphic card is 4GB (AMD Radeon HD 8970M), Windows 7, 64-bit.

I have in front of me a PTE project open. Windows Task Manager indicates:

    - in Performance: Memory 3,68 GB

    - in Processes: PTE 563.976 K, Windows Explorer 272.756K, 18 more items with 2.140K to 7.112K. This is because I always delete a lot of unnecessary processes in order to free some memory.

Afer 1 hour working with PTE, Performance reaches some 4,12 GB memory. Sometimes PTE freezes. To avoid freezing/crashing, I restart computer and start again (with the actual 3,68 GB). Very much annoying, don’t you think? PTE high quality is well worth, but I am anxious for 64-bit version.

  13. Hi Igor,

    You said:

“Being a 32-bit app, PTE 9 can use only up to 2 GB of system memory. With a special trick we can extend this limit up to 3.9 GB.”

What is such special trick? As you know, I am always figting against this 2GB limit in my PTE big video projects. I wonder if I could use such trick to easy my life...

    Regards,

    Jose

  14. Hi Igor,

    Something more about this problem:

Project  (Part 2) with 132 slides, lots and lots of Master/Link videos along it. First 3 slides were there just for me to figure out how Part 1 would connect with Part 2 ( I am building my project by parts, due to 32-bit limitations).

When I finished this Part 2, I had to delete those first 3 slides. All Master/Link videos were lost, I mean, not green, but frozen!  Now I have to rebuilt all these Master/Link videos.

I hope you can solve this for PTE 9.

    Thanks,

    Jose

  15. Hi Igor,

Jill said "You would be better spending the time on making video editing better with multiple image tracks." Not a bad idea!

But I would ask once more to keep timeline static while you zoom in, I mean, line position static. Now, when we zoom in, timeline runs to left or right.

    Thank you.

    Jose
