  1. On the 31st of October as part of our Pilgrimage to Auschwitz and Birkenau, we [ The Old Comrades of the Ayrshire [ ECO ] Yeomanry, visited the Salt mines in the suburbs of Krakow.

The experience was incredible, almost 500ft below the surface was a labyrinth of caverns and chambers with intricate carvings and statues made entirely from salt.

On my last visit to Auschwith [ 2009 ] I didnt get to see this, but thankfully we did this time..

This is my interpretation of that visit..

Really liked your show very moving. May I make a couple of suggestions that I think would make it even better.

    1. Near the beginning there is a shot (at 1.04) of the plaque and flags, I would suggest that it may be even effective by swapping it with the ending shot of the (days) programme. For me it would set the scene by having the image of the programme at the beginning telling the viewer what is going to happen and leaving us with the plaque and flags as the final poignant fade out.

Great idea John. Thank you for your help. I do appreciate it. It makes perfect sense. :)

    2. Have you considered centering the video on the screen instead of the bottom right corner? I feel that this would better hide the out of focus backgrounds.

    Regards

    John

Again John, another very relevant pointer. It always amazes me how come I didn't see that at the time. Every days a school day. Thank you so much for the help.

  3. This is to big for the slideshow club, so I'll include it here if I may.

I was privileged to be able to attend the 100th Anniversary Service of the Battles of Arras and Vimy during WW1. There was a service in the Scottish War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle followed by the band of HM Royal Marines and the Royal British Legion ' Beating Retreat ' on the Esplanade. Despite being bitterly cold there was a good attendance of old comrades and public. I do hope you see something you may like.

Thanks to Lin Evans for talking me thro the sound issues.

  4. Well, I've got my sound track done and I have to say, v9.5 is an awesome piece of kit. Being able to use my video soundtracks in the presentation really gives it  ' Authenticity '

and ' Reality '. Thank you Lin for pointing me in the right direction [ again ].

    Andrew.

  5. I have mastered [ said with tongue in cheek ] that issue and could use a leg up with the next phase.... adding a track to play during the non video slides. That is a ' main ' track which I can ' mute ' during the video's. Do I just add another track? Does it appear on the timeline above or below the video tracks? I'm a bit lost.

    Hi Andrew,

What you need to do is to mute the audio on the video, then go to the "Projects Options" "Audio" and add audio file, but to the right of the "files of type" where is says "audio files" there is a little blue square with a down arrow. Click on this and change the type to "Video file." Navigate to your video file and click on it with O.K. then the audio of the video will appear on the timeline with full use of the audio waveform and you can keyframe the fade in, fade out, etc. This will allow you total control over the audio of the video.

    Best regards,

    Lin

wow. Thanks Lin, thats exactly what I wanted. I'd never have figured that one out. :)

  7. I have added some video to a number of slides in v9.5. However when they transition, the sound in the video starts rather abruptly. Is there a way to fade in the sound with the transition so as not to ' shock ' the viewer.

I do hope I've explained that correctly.

    Kindest regards

    Hi Andrew,

Nice to see your post and good to know you are still about. Very moving show especially if you have visited these vast cemeteries.

    Mickp

Thanks Mick, yep, still plodding on mate. We visit the Ypres area every year and plan to do so for many yet [ if we're lucky ].

This year we're heading for the Somme. Hopefully get some good material.

    Andrew.

  9. In this anniversary year of Passchendale and the Somme, In June 2016 we visited the many Commonwealth War Graves of the area surrounding the Belgian town of Ypres [Leper].

The cemeteries are kept in the most beautiful condition by the staff of the CWGC. after the end ow WW I the [then] King ordered that " A Rose be placed upon each of the fallen" and thus a rose was planted on each of the Graves. This has been diluted by successive administrations and not stands at 1:3. However the CWGC staff are determined to return to the original order and are currently creating a massive number of plants from their own stock. What struck me was the way they are planted. The flowering Roses almost seem to be caressing the stones.

I do hope you'll see something you like in this tribute to the Gardeners.

    Yours Aye

  10. I want to put text on every slide in what's going to be a large presentation. Every time I click add text it comes up with the Ariel font. Is there a way to get the font I want to use to stay as the default please?

    Andrew

  11. I had to add a sound to an individual slide and managed to get the fades and the wee dots etc all in the right place. Feeling very self important I then tried to edit the main soundtrack [ which I had turned off or ' faded to zero ' ] during the slide. I couldn't get the thing to select the main soundtrack as it held on to the slide with sound added in the timeline view. I did manage to get it to select the main soundtrack in full screen mode eventually. I'd really like to know what I did wrong, since I managed to get everything done in p2e and had to work without Audacity which doesn't seem to like win10.
