  1. Mick,

    1. Please let me know the exact name of your DVD player (connected to TV)?

    2. Do I understand rightly that in previous version 7.5 you could burn and show DVD discs with your TV and DVD player?

    3. Please try the following alternate solution:

    - Untick all options on the last page of VideoBuilder and select only "Create DVD folders".

    - Use ImgBurn or other utility to burn DVD folder (VIDEO_TS folder) as DVD-Video disc.

    - Try to play this DVD on your TV.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Igor,

    1) Toshiba SD-230E and SD-220E

    2) Yes okay with 7.5 but video builder sometimes hung so I burnt iso files

    3) Burnt Video-TS file and plays okay on TV but re-burnt full show using "Burn DVD disc" and this still does not play.

The Video disc will suit my purposes now and normally I do not burn many DVD's now but I will still be happy to help if you need to resolve the problem.

  2. I have one last suggestion, that you might want to try, but I hope you're a Photoshop user. Replace all the images in your show, not a major task if you use Photoshop !!!

It is something I found recently on a slide show I was asked to fault find for a friend of a friend. What caused the fault seemed completely unrelated to the fault itself, which was a sound issue.I eventually found the cause was an image that displayed OK, but it was causing the whole problem. After signing out last night I started to think of your problem and how it just might be the same or similar to what I found.

Changing all the images is not such a task, but first copy the folder of images for safe keeping. In PS, go to File > Scripts >Image processor. In section 1 of the image processor, select the location of your folder of images. In section 2 select save in the same location. In section 3 select Jpeg and what level of compression you normally use. Then run the task. When complete, open the folder you targeted in section 1 and you will see a new folder has been created called JPEG. In that folder will be all your newly created images all with the same names as the originals. Copy those and paste them into the folder over the originals that you used in your slide show. Allow them to over-write them all. You have a copy stored elsewhere, so no risk.

    Then try your DVD again.

Thanks Barry, but I did something similar. You may remember that I deleted the second half of my show and the DVD worked ????? I then went on to replace all the second half slides with others from another folder keeping the timings the same and the DVD then would NOT work. I given up now anyway and my ticket to Wnsoft appears to have been ignored.

  3. No problem Mick. However if you are anything like me it will gnaw away at you & eventually you'll try again. If you want to zip the full show when finished I will burn a DVD & send it to your carver for the disc cost & postage, say £3., Could even print a personalised label on the disc, which would test my new printer which I haven't used yet to print discs.

    Regards Eric

    Yachtsman1.

That's very kind of you. Off out now but will PM you tomorrow.

  4. Hi Mick

If you like, you could ring me after the BT witching hour & we will make another DVD together & we can compare notes as go along using the same data you sent to me, best I can suggest.

    Regards Eric

    Yachtsman1.

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for the offer but see my post replying to Barry. I only wanted to put the show on a DVD to send to the chap who did the carvings, as I thought he was not really into computers (he prefers snail mail to emails). But I shall just put it on a cheap memory stick and hope he can sort it out. I've got seriously side-tracked by this, as I do like problem solving but that's enough. Thanks to you and everyone else who has tried to help.

    Regards,

That error message is a file association issue. You should be able to right click the file you tried to launch and select a default program for it. In Windows Explorer, right click the file and choose Open With > Choose a default program. Select WMP and tick the box that says always use this program. It should then run OK I think.

I appreciate that doesn't help the DVD problem you have.

    Hi Barry,

I was not trying to open any particular file I was only double clicking the DVD icon in "My Computer" to open it up to see the files and I get that message. I can do the same by Rt clicking/open and this works okay. I do not see how you can associate a DVD drive with anything. It is not a problem for me but thought it might be symptomatic of something else wrong. I've decided enough is enough and I'm not going to bother with creating a DVD anymore, but thanks for you help.

  6. Mick,

I've now downloaded and studied your sequence and can see nothing unusual in the image elements. The only observation I can make on that aspect is that you have some images where your "Main image" has not been declared. These show "Blank" as their file name in the Slide List in Slides view. I don't think it will be the cause of your problem but I suggest you tidy that loose end up; just in case.

As I watched the sequence run I felt that some attention to a couple of points would possibly improve it still further. On those occasions where you are dissolving one captioned painting into another, consider bringing up the second painting without a caption and then bringing up its caption. This will eliminate the jumbling of the two captions, which I found visually very distracting. Also, consider setting your extracts of the wood carving on a background of a complimentary colour, possibly a gradient between two of the different wood colours. Maybe apply a very gentle sandstone texture to that background, too. Now when you zoom within your masks, I think you will get a much more appealing visual effect. Just a couple of thoughts for you to mull over once you get the DVD problem solved.

And while I've been keying that last paragraph a thought has struck me. Are all of your sound files of identical characteristics? For example, are they all WAV files at 44.1kHz or all MP3s at 256kbps? If you have assembled sound files with mixed characteristics that have used different audio codecs, that might possibly be the cause of the problem. Just a wild guess, really!

    regards,

    Peter

Thanks Peter for your advice. Where the captions overlap I will put a space between the two paintings similar to the others. The background to the wood extracts will need a bit of thought. and my brain is too addled at the moment.

  7. Well if it is a computer problem my end, I cannot understand why it will play okay with half the show (both shows, Stations and Canterbury) and will play okay the whole show on WMP. BUT...

Double clicking on my DVD Drive icon produces the error message below. This also happens when I Rt click/play but Rt Click/Auto play works fine as does autoplay when inserting a Don't know what to do about this so advise would be gratefully received. Also all my data files are on an external hard drive but don't see why that would be a problem

  8. Further info - I've just tried burning a DVD of an 8.0 minute show I did a few months ago and am having just the same problem. So it seems to be a Video Builder problem. I will check if I cut the show down to 3mins 58 whether it will work then, similar to my Stations show. Off to hospital now and to get more DVD discs so may be tomorrow.

  9. Okay here is the definitive problem after much analysis.

Show is 19 slides long - 8 minutes 30 secs long. Have deleted sound files

DVD for full show plays on Computer but not on TV

Cutting last 8 slides (ie up to slide 11) - 3 mins 58 secs DVD plays perfectly on TV

Replacing last eight slides with simple slides from different project with no animation but with same slide times- DVD will not play on TV

So something occurs at 3 mins 58 secs but Slides 12 to 19 appear not to be corrupted.

A template of the show can be downloaded from Medifire but it 130mb so maybe it is something Igor could look at.

  10. Thanks for the suggestion Dave. Cut down the show to four slides out of 19 - DVD worked! Then cut it down to 10 slides and DVD worked. Then just cut the last slide ie 18 slides left and DVD did not work. So tomorrow will investigate slides 11 to 18. I don't think it is a size problem as exe file is 107mb. Sorry Eric just sen your post will read and reply tomorrow as out on the razz tonight.

    Mick.

  11. Yes Eric I did check this out and as I said I am confident there is nothing wrong with my Video builder settings plus I have tried most variations to no avail.

I have now created a small show with five slides and a gradient blank slide to start (as my main show) and music and the DVD works perfectly on the DVD player to TV and also works on computer on WMP. But when I use exactly the same settings in video builder for my main show I get the same problem as before - the disc plays on computer but not on TV despite the DVD player recognising it and the timer showing 0:00:00 but it will not play.

My main show uses quite a few masks, lots of animation together with text but no video but cannot find anything in Project settings that could cause a problem. Is this something Igor could look at and what information or files would be required?

    Mickp

  12. Thanks for all your help so far and thanks Eric for your Projects Options screenshot. One of the default options is "Add Chapters" ticked and at 1

minute. When I first did it on these settings the dvd stopped playing on wmp after one minute - not what I wanted so I unticked that and it

played ok on the computer but not on TV. I was using PAL/Secam by the way. I do not think I am doing anything wrong in the settings but will do a simple show later and have another go - watch this space.

  13. Problem with Publish to create a DVD video disc of my latest show. Both my DVD players recognise the disc and that there is something on it as indicated by “Play” being on the DVD screen but it will not play. DVD does play on computer via WMP. I have tried creating an iso file and burning that with Imgburn but with exactly the same result. I have burnt and old iso file from a previous version and that works perfectly. I have tried all various settings and also re-installed the program and wasted 10DVD’s to date. Help please

  14. Love Whitstable especially fish restaurant at the harbour. Went there recently with a friend and had a little too much drink to drive home so had to hire one of the fisherman's lofts to sleep it off. Happy days. I'm Live in Chatham, pm me if you are in the area.

  15. Hi Eric,

As a resident of Kent and probably the only member of my 110 strong camera club who has not taken photographs at Dungeness, I was particularly keen to see your show. Such a shame about the weather but many of the shots I recognised and it was good to see you take on them. Not sure I understood your reasoning for repeating most of your shots in monochrome, I think I would have stuck with a three minute show with a shrug as did your wife. Anyway I hope you enjoyed the rest of Kent and had some better weather.

  16. Hi Lin,

Got it and now and it is on the original post. Had a re-boot in the meantime so maybe that had something to do with it. Use IE and don't usually have any problem. Great show using good imagination and excellent sync to the music - could ditch the end video for the English version.

    Mick.
