  1. I was just musing Maureen that one could be briefly confused - The WWW-DAVE looks like a website itself and the other competition at CreatingSlideShows.com is, as you know, is under the auspices of Desert DAVE. Well, it was worth a smile to me
  2. Mikey, did you try my suggestion above? The one thing for sure is that the 1 hour length is NOT a problem for or of PTE. It may indeed be a problem for viewers if they are not expecting and willing. For that subject, as ContaxMan and others have invited, I will start a separate thread.
  3. Hi Mikey, here's a possibility - You synched the sound track before you had all your slides inserted. Go into the Project Options, Customize Synchronization, Timed Points, Add arranged points! See if that solves it for you.
  4. Welcome to the forum. You are probably doing the upload procedure just fine. Who knows why sometimes these things don't work. I have successfully uploaded to Beechbrook many times, but have also had your experience on some occasions. It seems sometimes that if you are uploading using Netscape, it was more problem than using IE. Also, if you can't make it work, leave an email there for Bill, the generous owner of Beechbrook. He is always helpful. The other thing that some of us do, is to keep your presentation on your own site or other storage and just upload a "link" and a "thumbnail" to Beechbrook. Looking forward to seeing your show. Have fun.
  5. Also Bigbert, if you don't really need the "object" functions, you can just use Photoshop or other to make your text on a slide and then use that ready-made slide. Or you could use such a slide and then add smaller objects onto the text for your needed functions?
  6. Ron, before I forget - you are up too late - if the time stamp is right. Can you tell us which of your shows we could review for a quick re-view of your technique implementation? I had not thought of the help it might be from horizontal to vertical.
  7. Certainly Alan, we share your concern and wishes. I did yesterday fire off an email to Granot (Boxig) inquiring of his position and condition as he has often shared his great love for Thailand. He replied quickly that he is safe and currently a long distance from that area. But certainly he must feel very personal concern for the people of the area.
  8. Welcome to the forum. And welcome to software that you are very likely to be very happy using. Meanwhile, try to describe a little bit of what you are trying - number and size of photo files, same with sound files, and how and when you get the "freeze." Meanwhile, for your own trouble-shooting, try very simple show of few slides and no sound - see what makes a difference or doesn't. Let us know, many will try to help.
  9. I think this is interesting and good idea - the viewer's input this way. I would think, Igor, if you can do it, it ought to be an option that the creator chooses to allow or not allow.
  10. So Dadou, do I understand that you were taking the photos while flying a similar "ultralite" craft (kite?)? Nicely done.
  11. Yup, must be the camera. I've certainly never had stage-show photos turn out like that. They are very good photos you have accomplished and shared. Congratulations.
  12. Sam, your show is a real highlight! Your sensitivity to life comes forth very well. (By the way, thank you for your .txt file explanation. That was important for me to understand.) Your transitions are so perfectly chosen and arranged! Great photos come together in a splended flow. Thank you.
  13. Tony, I may still not understand exactly what you are experiencing - but it sounds like maybe Nero or some other program is "performing" the slideshow and it is not really the .exe file created by PTE? Do the individual PTE shows run ok without your Menu arrangement?
  14. Insert your DVD in your PC, then with Explorer see what files/folders etc are showing up on the disk.
  15. Thanks Ken for the lead. As you and I know, it is possible to download all day long and still get nothing worthwhile. So a well directed tip is of value. As for those having "trouble", I notice that on the cited pieces I would be downloading two songs at once: one at a "fast" 418kbs while the other might be as slow as 14kbs! Similar combos kept occurring, but not just on Cynthias songs. It appears there may be different servers with different loads and powers.
  16. Thanks everyone. It does seem that we are getting some different results from personal experiences related. I am wondering now a little more about the software used to burn to DVD. Even wondering if the software used to burn may make a difference in read-time when later accessing the photos on DVD. I need to digest all the good info you have all provided and probably make some further explorations/tests myself before committing. Meanwhile, I had to move several gigs of pix from one HD to another. And . . . further input is still welcome.
  17. I guess unless someone else counters, that CD is "better" than DVD for storage of photo files. And Marco, I would also be interested in your 1997 climbing experience. Do you have a PTE presentation of that experience? I am not a climber, but having last week only hiked briefly at over 17,000 ft. in Peru, I have new appreciation for high-elevation efforts of climbers.
  18. Thank you Brian, and Al. Granted, I have been confused by some of the information but your last post clarifies and the first quote above is very helpful. I too continue to welcome any other members knowledge. For now, my question to you Brian - If I am un-ready to purchase more flash memory cards or devices for permanent storage, is CD the best way to go?
  19. Over the years, PTE has become my main vehicle for enjoying selected photos from the thousands that I snap. I now need to refine (or establish) a better system/workflow for moving more of the photos off-line. I recently decided it would make sense to move the thousands of photos onto DVD's instead of CD's. My first batch of files, July - October of one year, required 4 DVD's. But the DVD's took "forever" to burn. I think it would have taken less time to burn the many more CD's that would have been required. Then when I try to view the 2000 or so files on the DVD, it really does not seem practical. That is, it takes a very "long" time for the DVD photos to show up on screen. Maybe this has to do with my slow machines 750 mhz - 1.6 mhz on the DVD equipped PC's. Sometimes, the files seem to be on the DVD but "never" will show up with the others when trying to view the entire DVD photos. What experiences and conclusions have some of you come up with in this regard? DVD vs. CD for photo storage?
  20. Jim, I have only partially followed the problem, but it looks like you did a good job of trouble-shooting it. Your explanation will allow me to make mental note in case I run into similar in future. Thanks.
  21. Thank you for posting this. I look forward to hearing some of our members oppinion of the resulting quality. Indeed, it is the sound files that bulk up many of our shows.
  22. Yes, may be a good time to get a glimpse of where many of us are located, including many new members. So here goes - Grand congratulations from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA! And Igor, it is with sincere gratitude to you. Are you old enough - or young enough - to proudly reveal your age? And Pasha, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
  23. The way I understand this is : Your "Start" program allows you to run the "NEXT" show. But instead of running "NEXT" as an entire show, it would commence at Slide #7. So the first 6 slides of "NEXT.exe" would not be seen. Of course, maybe this is not what Igor has in mind. We shall see.
  24. Ray, I have to say I am very happy for you, your wife and baby. Family with a great big dose of love it looks like! From everything I know, you deserve it. Congratulations!
  25. Sounds like a nice offer. I did make a quick visit - looks like you've got a nice site emerging from your talent. By the way, which "desert" is Dave attached to?
