Thank you Igor. It looks like your efforts have produced a bundle of features to explore.

Perfect! Cleverly done. Congratulations.

Thank you Ken and Roger for your comments. I think the fancy use of transitions and multilayered slides have a place too. I think the use of them should often depend on the purpose of the show. I think there is room for creative expression at every level when using photography and PTE. Most commonly my purpose is to create nice photos and then present them in the way which will relate to the "audience". In my case, the "audience" is often the participants in the presentation. Then as I want others (such as forum members) to enjoy, I will take that into consideration. I think in "Subway" the photos are more likely to be enjoyed over my use of more complex screen placement etc. However, there may be other users with more artistic skill and PS experience who could make the show even better. But in general, I like to use the full screen in an attempt to bring the viewer into the scene.

Dave, you are very perceptive. I didn't know if anyone would relate the sound track to the natural process of the formation of such a geological environment. Like I said, quite perceptive on your part. As for Ron's uncertainty regarding the lapping of waves (?) - I may have been stretching - maybe the quiet gurgling brook sound is a more obvious fit, but the other factors of the music fit very well (I think) with the ocean type water. Of course the water today is mostly as you see it, but a flash flood can turn the scene into violence akin to the movies Twister and Perfect Storm. I am more than content to not have any contemporary evidence of that in our experience. There was indeed an increasingly tense chapter in the story, but I had no opportunity to document it photographically. An early waterfall injury to one of our guys became more haunting as the day went on and pitch black night brought a chance for greater appreciation when we eventually were safely out of the canyon. Once again, you are perceptive. Those very blurry/shakey shots do remind the hikers of how frigid the water was and the alternative route we were on there vs. a much-debated water route. I used my tiny Minolta (Konica) G500, 5 megapixel. Camera has mostly adequate manual possibilities while still being small enough to keep in my pocket. Where actual swimming was required I would have to relinquish my camera into someone's waterproof dry-bag. Yes, I am the one with the swollen shutter finger. Or if you can't see that, I am the one with the cleanest head in the lunch photo. "Close" group of guys in terms of being able to enjoy hiking together. My own first choice of one word for the 5 guys would be "diverse." Thanks again Ron and David. I hope others will still express some more reactions and oppinions.

I must appologize Ron. You would have been waiting a very long time for the manual portion of the show to appear. Based on your comment, I investigated and found I had not included the nav-bar show that needs to be linked in the first show. No wonder you had no explanation. I am currently uploading the missing file. Should be ready in about 10 minutes. I'm sorry, that you and any other "early downloaders" will need to go back to my site and download again. The corrected download will also be ZionSub.zip but will be 28 mb size and will include two .exe files. The ZionSubway forum3.exe when run will link to the rosewood.exe file which has the "explanation" .

Good morning Ron, (about to go to bed here). There should be some explanation in the manually controlled slides at the end. There should be a navigation bar etc. Please take a look, maybe the nav bar section came up too slowly for you to notice? Meanwhile, I better take a look and see if my downloaded version works properly. As for the virus - yes, I received your mail and appreciate your bringing "it" to my attention. I can't tell you whether the mail really came (unintentionally) from me or whether it is a "spoofing" virus that was working out of your machine. I too, have at times, received notice of rejected mail from "senders" that don't seem to really be the senders. I guess this type of evil brings sadistic joy to someone somewhere, but it is a pain at best and disaster at worst.

http://pte.do-some-good.com/ is my site where you can download The Subway This is not your typical subway experience and I invite your comments as requested at the end of the show. This show not yet linked on Beechbrook, but should be soon.

George are you aware of Beechbrook, where Bill (Cottage) hosts many of our shows? When you go there you can also register for his automatic email notification when new shows are posted. All for our enjoyment and learning.

Yes loweskid, very nice photos on which you built an enjoyable show. The first photos reminded me of some ice-theme shots of my own. Your latter photos reminded me that I don't do ice climbing and don't have photos like that! Looks like great adventure. Finally, I was reminded of a recent favorite movie, Touching the Void of true mountain-ice climb in Peru. Are you, as a climber aquainted with the incident?

Granot, I can appreciate the nightmare you are experiencing. But I am not smart enough to sort it out. It seems there has been some very good information from several members. But as the "victim" it is very difficult to determine what (of all the good info) applies in your own individual case. The last and I hope only time I encountered a similar mess, I did the following. I bought Partition Magic program and used it to set up a new drive in the minimal open space on my hard drive. I installed Windows XP in the new partition. ( The infected drive was using Win98 SE). I immediately installed anti-virus software on the new drive (partition.) Then a proceded to re-install my most needed software & data from the infected drive or program disks. It was my understanding that the anti-virus software would not allow me any of the infected stuff to my new partition. This mess was at a critical time ("busy season") so I moved only the most needed information. After the time crunch eased a bit, I erased more un-needed stuff from the infected partition, then increased the size of the new partition. Finally, when I had worked this far enough, I wiped clean the original mess and began using the space again. I did not know exactly what I was doing and had many questions along the way, but so far things have been ok - 3 or 4 months now. Maybe such approach could be modified to at least salvage most of your accumulated work.

OK, the link and the show now work. But there are a bunch of blue flowers all over almost every slide!
-
Ken, I can't get a file nor a web page from your link. Anything I need to do special? Your post reminded me I have been meaning to ask you if you have a presentation that would share the great Texas blue bonnets that we enjoyed while we were temporary Texans years ago?
-
Sure, I can relate to that. My own youngest just graduated well from High School. (Certainly cause to be proud, right?)I did not do a PTE this time but took sufficient video that I've now put on DVD for her and friends. As I watched a little with her last night, I couldn't help think how fun it would be if I had similar video from my own graduation xx years ago. Your daughter will be able to enjoy it also - if she can still remember she has it after xx years.

All right Catrick - I think I have figured out what is happening !?! If you are doing the following: PTE mainscree/Customize slide/music tab/and checking play new background music file(s) Then the PTE Preview (main screen) and the created .exe file will both run fine and play the music. BUT using the above method to call the music results in NO music when you make the avi or use the AVI preview! Try this: remove any music references you have made in the "customize slide" screens. Then, use PTE main screen/project options/ music (tab)/check the Play background music box/add (music file here.) Now when you run the AVI Preview you should have your sound and finally also on your DVD or SVCD. Now, is that a "bug", I don't know. But it seems to be a "trap" in your case. I really hope this solves it for you, please let us know.
-
Are you using PTE Version 4.20? If so, you will find all of the above in PTE main screen/project options/ music (tab). I think much of the help file has not been updated yet. I think the external vs. internal player is no longer relevant.
-
I think the above info will make it "easy" for Igor to know what is going on. We just need to get his attention and of course he is very busy on the improvements coming in the next Beta. To me, the fact that you get no sound in the PTE AVI window, means the problem is not with Ulead or Roxio or any other burner program. Also the problem seems to be before the point where you must leave PTE open for the sound to be present. Wish I knew more. My DVD efforts are all XP, so maybe someone using Win98 SE can suggest some direction.
-
I was wondering why we had not "seen" you lately. I am sorry to be of no help here, but look forward to the answer from someone. This morning I had to delete 179 "uncleanable" infected files. I am running fine at the moment but am leary of consequences when I need to run related programs or data.
-
I would question whether that is really what is happening. Maybe someone can correct me? The finished PTE.exe file size should not ever be a limiting factor - as long as you use the timeline sync. Without the timeline sync, a 40 meg show lasting 1/2 hour could easily be out of sync early and get worse as the show progresses.

I was recently in the mountains with a couple of our grandkids. It is always a time of many action candids. He was throwing rocks in the river. I was doing the same and taking photos of him. Suddenly he whirled around and splashed as much as he could on me and camera. His move startled me, but fortunately my instinct was to push the shutter button. The result was a great shot of mid air water and his mischievous but satisfied smile. And, now I have a 12x18 birthday present for him next week. But I really knew the whole outing was a success when one of the kids excitedly exclaimed he\she had found "the perfect stick." I love it when the kids create simple fun. Beats computer games. "The Perfect Stick" may be the title of my next pte short.
-
What can I say - just "good clean fun." Appreciated the sentiment in your read-me file too. I will say though that with digital cameras there likely will be so many photos left to our kids and grandkids that many will never be seen again! Assembling selected snapshots into PTE shows is a very good way to increase the likelyhood that at least some pix will be seen over and over again. I often will do a quick theme based show - a birthday or camp trip or whatever on one or two of the grandies. It is a fun thing for the kids to then want to watch the 3-minute shows each time they visit. Sort of makes the old photographer feel good - if you know what I mean. Your music points out a good place to use vocals for a change. There are often songs the kids already identify with or it is a chance to push some "olden days" color on them. Finally, watching your show gave me some more ideas. That is one of the real benefits of sharing even the most mundane presentations. Thanks Ken.

Still trying to help here - The preview I am asking about is NOT the full screen preview you seem to be refering to. On the PTE main screen, when you select "Video", the "Making of AVI video" screen opens. On this screen you have the choice to "Create AVI" or "Preview". This is the preview of the avi file that I am asking about. Does this AVI preview work with sound and if so, what video player is it using on your machine?
-
Frustrating isn't it. I have just written another thought, but I have moved it over to the "How to create video" section. Please see at: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...t=ST&f=4&t=2052

Catrick, tell me please, when you are in PTE screen to create .avi - Instead of pressing "Create AVI", what happens when you press "Preview?" Does the preview AVI play with sound? What default player opens to play the Preview AVI?

(This topic is triggered by comments of several members in the presentation section of the forum. ) I think it was Ron, who hit on a point that has concerned me lately. Frankly I am confused about this. It seems to me that I am having more trouble with flicker with Version 4.20 than I did with previous versions. But I also remember, Igor giving us opportunity to test the transition methods that he was considering. I know at least one of our valued forum members helped with a significant change in approach that most everyone concluded was better. Igor had us insert a couple of lines of instructions to see which fade methods worked best. Now it seems to me that the fade transition is silky smooth on faster machines but flickers more on my 750 mhz machine than did the older fade method. The two-line modification does not seem to help now. As I said, I am confused. Maybe some more observations and opinions here would help many of us and even Igor. Or, Igor, if you are reading, maybe you can explain what is happening?

Jeanie, I have always been thankful that I fell in love and then wanted to get married. I always thought it would be more difficult to want to get married but have to consciously search the infinite possibilities. I find the same principal applies to music for my shows. Fortunately, inspiration will often bring the appropriate photos and music together. Sometimes, they seem to converge out of nowhere. One of my favorite music/show matches came from a couple of unheard-of downloads from a free site. I dl'd about 6 songs and two of them were perfect! Now, on the other hand, I have been struggling for a couple of weeks with a show, that I am not "sure" what to use. I was going to bring this topic up in a little different form - but have held up the show until I convince myself what meets my "vision" for the show. So far, the music I am using seems to fit the photos probably from an objective viewers point, but it changes my vision somewhat from my original intent for the show. I will probably end up posting the show and solicit some help from you and others too.
