  1. Sure, granot, please send: rcr@networld.com
  2. Might not be a task for PTE, but it is a fun "show." And I think the "trick" is less obvious than many similar tricks.
  3. Frank, Irfanview, as mentioned, can be setup to "browse" your photo file directories quite nicely. You can access it by right-click on the Windows Start button. Maybe someone else can also supply you the name of a program I tried for a while, that actually showed an icon-sized thumbnail of each specific photo when you used the regular Windows Explorer. Personally, I did not like it because of the slow down when Explorer hit a folder with lots of photos and therefor icons to draw.
  4. Welcome Sandy - but I kind of like "konajill" And with "kona" in mind I mention a couple of things - If you have not already visited Bill's site: www.Beechbrook.com , you will find there many PTE shows that have been produced by forum members. One of the old classics you might enjoy is "Kula" Secondly, we look forward to seeing your photos, maybe of "kona" ?
  5. Thank you all for the very useful information. I think this kind of personal input is really valuable.
  6. deep6, no you do not need any "Xing", and I can't even tell you how to search to see if you have anything of it. Probably not on your machine. Actually, maybe someone recently did give some specifics of how to search for the files or settings that may have come from Xing. But for now, I hope Igor's input above will be the solution. But it also seems significant that your machine also won't play shows from other machines if the PTE was created to use the external player.
  7. Looks like this is a good place to ask for other oppinions or philosphies of organizing our exponentially growing collections of photos. Not just for PTE, but for all uses. I personally "name" very few of the many photos I take. Most are on the computer only as numbers. Yes, some are named when they are refined or used in PTE in a manner where a name will be helpful. I think if I entered a name for every digital photo file I now have, I would never have time to snap another photo. The most obvious weakness of numbers only is that a "search" is not very feasible. Does anyone here make use of sophisticated programs that search by actuall photo content, rather than an arbitrary title? I have never really thought that was justified for my needs, but I might change my mind if someone has a great success story to tell. Up til now, I find the most reliable method of sorting and keeping track of the bulk of my images is by date. Of course I often can't remember the year of a particular photo, but most often (so far) I can remember when the photo was taken relative to other photos. This method works better for things like vacations, trips etc. than it does for say still life or soccer pictures from one year to the next. And I fear any approach that relies on human memory is bound to become less and less dependable. Lets hear some helpful ideas from everyone.
  8. Alan, I too would like to encourage this. And for starters, I would like to ask you for some of the thoughts that many of us have never really been privy to. I think this is an area that we have not taken much advantage of here. There are at least several of our users with extensive AV experience that could share much if they are so inclined. I think it would be very useful to have explanations why a certain effect or fade was used and how the images were tweaked to fit the transition or visa versa. How the music was paced to the subject of certain slides, and all the un-thought of factors that most of us don't always consider. Once the mechanical aspects of PTE are "mastered", it is the personal creative approaches that are most interesting (do you think?)
  9. And as best I recall, early versions of "Xing" sound engine(?) codec (?) etc. , or even remnants of the same, would cause some problems as you describe.
  10. I think what ever the first three categories, the fourth should be "everything that does not fit in the first three." I think also, "beginners" is better served by the "beginner" looking wherever the subject suggests rather than having a beginner category. The already included instructions are the natural "beginning" if a person wants to read them. I suspect most of us usually begin by doing rather than reading.
  11. Thank you Guido. I guess that says something about the internet world when my buddy in far-off Italy has to tell me about my next-door neighbor! Although the name looked "indian", I truly had never heard the name. I will now have to make note of the area in my PDA to-do list. But as my PDA can also keep track of priorities, I will keep Italy ranked above it.
  12. http://www.sonystyle.com/ (search "SL10" http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nXtClieClub/ cc - I must admit, I was a little like Guido - I resisted using a pda for a long time. I thought a pda didn't fit in my personal "system" of daily life. A couple of factors changed my oppinion. When I first saw the improved image on the first Clie I saw it made a big difference to eyes that like things brighter. (photos and text!) Secondly, when I realized that the sony memory stick feature gave unlimited storage and program capacity that made a difference. And by selecting a digital camera that also accepts sony memory sticks, I could move things back and forth as needed - I concluded to drop my written day-planner and take the leap. Now what is it actually good for ? I think the uses are not very limited. But I think many users become obsessed with the novelty and use it for things that are better done on your desktop. But it is fun to do "big" things on such a little thing. Some folks do the traditional spread sheets, data bases and word processing. Some do "everything." My son-in-law loves to dl all his email to his pda and read it when he has a chance during the day. I found that was not helpful to me and it made the "hot-sync" time too long for my taste. The first link at the first of this message will get you to Sony's sight on the SL10. The second site is a very active Clie / pda group. I visited there for a couple of weeks as I was trying to learn what is available and get other peoples thoughts on it. I also attended one 2 hour class that was helpful. Now after the initial flurry of use, here is my most regular use - Calendar and day planning, appointments or especially To-Do's that I need to not forget. The ability to roll forward or repeat these items is very helpful. I enter all that I can on the desktop keyboard and then hot-sync to'from the pda. I don't get any pleasure or utility by writing long pieces directly on the pda. Phone numbers. E-book or Reader features. I use my scriptures and other reference books on pda. It is very handy to not drag around a stack of books, but be able to instantly look up a library full of information. At first I would even read Esau's Fables while waiting in checkout lines. But that sort of wore off. Photo sharing. With the memory sticks you can carry far more photos than anybody will ever want to see.
  13. Yes, Jim, that .jpg is a little easier to understand. Now, the new question - what the heck is "Weminuche?"
  14. Ken, I had asked your PTE question too - with same answer - no. But as for a PDA that displays well your photos - they are getting better. I have not kept up with each new model, but I am happy with the quality of my photos on my Sony Clie. The 320x320 resolution doesn't sound like much, but is markedly better than the more typical 160x160. Also, there are several slide-show programs for displaying your pictures on the pda, but certainly none with the power and possibilites of PTE. Still they are fun for bragging about your kids or Saturday adventure.
  15. Thank you Harold. Sounds like a useful method I will have to try. The cues in CoolEdit are saved as what kind of file and how do you "copy" them into PTE?
  16. Harold, could you share a little info re your technique above? (Waveform for transition points)
  17. Bill Gates says he's sorry for the inconvenience! Now there is a quote to add to my collection. (Along with a letter from the IRS admitting that THEY had apparently "processed wrong" the money and documents sent to them.
  18. Ever notice Guido, that it is always the older among us who make these long associations from our memories? I do it all the time. Probably makes the younger folks think "huh?" But it is ok, for that is really what life is made of - that is relationships.
  19. Obviously, way too long. I think you will soon have a response from Igor or his staff who will read your post and get the key issue solved. Meanwhile, you probably deserve the prize for the most patient of anyone who has run into an initial delay.
  20. Nice work Al, sounds like it your really polishing it up. I just DL'd it and hope to try it tomorrow. I will mention here the link in your latest message here would not work for me. I went to your webpage (in earlier messages) and the DL link on your page worked no problem. Thank you now, again.
  21. One thing you can easily try is to re-install the program. You may want to make sure you have your "key" ready in case you end up needing it. I think "normallly" you won't need to re-install your key.
  22. I presume you are setting the 2 seconds in project options. Is it possible that you have customized each individual slide with 4 seconds, which would over-ride the project selection?
  23. Of course we do expect the update by no later than noon today!
  24. Al, I personally don't have a problem when "glitches" appear. I think it is great that you "publish" the problems. I figure when you or boxig or nobeefstu or anyone else is able and willing to help in programming areas - we recipients should be grateful to the n'th degree. We should simply understand that your willingness to let us in on the ground floor may mean a little longer climb to the goal. I think it is far different than when a commercial product is rushed to market for big bucks and still has errors that are living proof that the software is not tested to any meaningful degree. I think Igor is very wise in sharing his Beta's as he does. We users can always stick with the "proven" version until we feel the new features justify the risk of the new version.
