1. Robert, Be careful with file sizes when using 100% - perhaps it is not always necessary? Also - remember KFSD! (When inserting video). DG
2. Gary, NIK Viveza and Silver FX etc are Integral parts of NX2 - you are "wasting money" buying them twice. All that you get for your money is the presets. Added to that they work on the RAW files in NX2 - they work on the TIFFs in CS. Portrait - why not show your portrait image overlaying a faded-back or blurred landscape image - that way the change of AR doesn't hit you in the face? Music - it's a simple matter to repeat a verse or chorus in a piece of music to add time or cut 4 or 8 bars out without interrupting the flow. With care it can be done in PTE's Audio Utility and will hopefully be even better in 7.5 / 8. DG P.S. I'm now going to watch your show.
3. sg, I wish I could help you more but I can only tell you what I see (as did Lin). I bought a new PC recently to replace my 7 year old Media PC and went for the highest spec off-the-shelf that was available from that well know PC retailer in the high street. I was running XP prior to that and never had video problems with a 512Mb card and 2Gb RAM. You could list your EXACT spec with make and model of the card to see if it rings any bells with anyone - perhaps you and Peter have something in common? I will try your file on my Vista Laptop tomorrow to see if there is any difference. DG
4. I tried the original MOV file - Smooth as silk - absolutely no dropped frames, stuttering or any problem that I can detect. W7, i7 2600 CPU @ 3.4GHz; 8Gb RAM; nVidia GT 545 with 3Gb RAM. DG P.S. I then allowed the converter to do its job at default settings and no trimming - exactly the same - could tell no difference between original and converted. DG
5. Right click on a movie (in the File List) and select CONVERT. Tick the CROP Bullet and the usual markers are available. I have tried both this one and the one in ViewNX2 and I'm leaning toward VNX2. It saves in MOV format and has the added benefit of being able to change the frame rate (if required). DG
6. Ummmmm, Can I suggest that you put it on a tripod? It has been suggested elsewhere here, and quite rightly so, that the subject should move and not the camera. For the purposes of this type of testing it would be desirable? Why not put it on a tripod and walk in front of the camera and lower the projector screen or similar? For what it is worth, I am not seeing any "dropped" frames - just user induced unsteady video (highest quality). DG
7. Make a short clip available so that others (mainly Igor) can try it? Use DROPBOX or MEDIAFIRE or similar. DG
8. Click on the CROP Bullet in the CONVERT module. DG
9. Looks like Tom is right? ....and it leaves the original file intact. DG
10. Lin, The reason I asked was because if nothing else will do it, ViewNX2 is a tried and tested free option from a trustworthy source which does all that I want. Like a lot of other free options it does not do Audio editing but it's part of my computer software setup and, for those occasions when trimming is a good idea, works well with the MOV files that I feed it.

It trims, splits and stitches movies with basic transitions in a a simple way that even I understand.

I'm not sure what Peter wants of it that it doesn't do but when I ask it to CREATE a Movie it gives me a perfectly usable MOV file in any one of 3 different varieties and 3 different frame rates each of which work well in PTE.

DG

12. Do any of these options allow for editing of the Video's Audio track? DG
13. Another item for Igor's proposed PREFERENCES? DG
14. Why have both 100% and 80% versions? I'm refering to Batch Processing from RAW to re-sized 80% JPEGs. In my case the RAW is 25Mb and the JPEGs are around 2.5 Mb. DG
15. Neil, There is absolutely nothing wrong with your argument. I took a long look at some of my shows and assessed the size necessary to create shows at the limits of what I had done before. This told me that, apart from rare occasions, I was using no more than 200% zoom into an image. Couple this with the size of existing projectors (and TV screens) and you come up with a figure of 3840x2560 for my 3:2 images. That can easily be acheived by batching and the resulting images can, as you say, be inserted into a PTE show and still fit my requirement for 200% zooming. In my case it means a saving of, on average, 2 Mb per image over a full size 100% quality Jpeg from the same original (25% saving). In your case it would be more like 33%. Go one step further and reduce the quality to something like 80% (which my images SEEM to cope well with) and the savings (in my case) become more like 75%. A 100Mb show becomes 25Mb (based on all JPEGS - no video). What I am suggesting takes no time to accomplish - a simple batch process which re-sizes and saves at 80% quality reduces the overall file size (images) to 25% of the full size 100% quality figure. It should take no longer than about 10 minutes. You have to ask yourself how quickly you see projectors and TV screens increasing in resolution - my guess is that it won't be next year and that 2560x1440 projectors are going to be beyond the reach of all but Lottery winners for a year or two more. But, once again, there is nothing wrong with your philosophy. DG
16. Once the ISO file is created, just double click (DC) on it. If any of your Burning sofwares support it - it will open up the required module. e.g. on my laptop DC on an ISO brings up the ROXIO Burn Image Module. On my Desktop DC brings up the CyberLink Burn Disc Image Module. DG
17. I agree Peter, But the point is that we now have to cater for the highest resolution that things are going to be shown on - and not the lowest (or even our own projectors). It's been that way for some time. DG
18. They arrived here in camera clubs etc around two or more years ago - 1920x1080 is standard. DG
19. ISO ....and not just for multiples. dg
20. Gary, There is no info in the second file. DG
21. We agree Lin. At present we are trying to figure out why Gary's MOV's have mysteriously changed from 24p to 30p. DG
22. I don't have a D7000 and don't want to guess but the obvious answer seems to be that at some stage you altered SOMETHING? Have you altered from NTSC to PAL or vice versa etc? Perhaps the EXIF would give a clue? DG
23. Hi Gary, It IS 23.98fps - for both NTSC and PAL 1920x1080 (24p) but there are also 30p and 25p options - page 313 of the Manual. DG
24. I suspect that this is the reason why Igor created the Converter to give us optimum performance? DG
25. Agreed - I envisage using video as a background rather than as the "main event". But a nice slow pan would be good. What about this business of trimming in PTE and using the Movie SOOC - have you tried that? DG
