Totally disagree Xaver! Example: 10 second slide with 2 second transition - 2 slides. 2 seconds - 8 seconds - 2 seconds - 8 seconds. Use customize slide and ask it to change the slide duration to 10 (no change) and effect duration to to zero for both slides. The result is: Zero - 8 seconds - Zero - 10 seconds. I asked for two slides with 10 seconds Slide Duration and Zero seconds Effect Duration! Not logical. I would expect the first slide to have its effect duration decreased to zero whilst maintaining the Slide Duration at 10 seconds - that's what I asked for. If I set my Durations at 10 and zero and then add two slides that's what I get - two slides with 10 second slide duration and Zero effects. You must agree that there is an inconsistency and therefore a lack of logic. I totally understand the principles that Igor has tried to put in place but it falls down when changes are made and the results are not as expected. DG

Have you set the necessary option? View > Advanced > Set Graphical Editor. DG

Peter, Before posting an FAQ would it be wise to keep trying to get a comment off Igor? I can see no logic in the situation and it would appear that, under certain circumstances, a "bug" has been identified. When making changes to two slides at the same time the changes made to the second slide are logical. I can't see any logic in the changes being made to the first slide. We need a comment from Igor. Geoff, Is my suggestion regarding placing the three images on the same slide totally unacceptable? Think about it: I manual mode and using three slides,unless your timing is immaculate, the sound is going to stop before (or after) the end of the third image. If you put the three images in one slide fading from one to the next, your sound and images can be synchronised (within that one slide) and the slide can be stopped awaiting a button press or automatically move on to the next slide. You have not said if anything else is happening while the three images are showing and the sound is playing - are you talking over this three image sequence? DG

The advice to everyone, at this point in time, seems to be that you should keep the two Slide Duration options unticked unless there is an overiding reason (involving video) to keep them on. Also, whichever mode you start with should be continued for the duration of the project. Secondly, when making alterations to Slide and Effect Durations and the two options are ticked, it would seem to be advisable to: a. Do them one at a time and b. Make changes to the Effects Duration before making changes to the Slide Duration (for individual slides). Otherwise unintended results COULD occur. Meantime it would great if Igor could make some kind of comment? DG

Peter, It is the same problem. I think, if you look very closely, what seems to be happening is that when you try my options three or one the incoming transition is being removed and subtracted from the FIRST slide to be modified in any situation. What it SHOULD do is to first set the transition time to zero and then set the Slide Duration to whatever you want it to be. Or alt least that's the way my logic works. Please try my option two on your figures and see what you get. DG

Guys, I can see your points. There are three ways of acheiving a change of slide duration and effect duration in Customize. 1. Slide Duration first followed by Effect Duration 2. Effect Duration followed by Slide Duration 3. Both at the same time Logically there is an argument that each gives the correct result but the fact that they give DIFFERENT results is confusing. DG P.S. Is it significant that #1 and #3 produce the same result?

How did you burn it to the DVD? The method I asked you to try is the method I have always used when writing from PTE to a DVD. After creating the ISO file I just double click on it and the correct module in ROXIO kicks in to burn it to DVD. Never made a coaster. Works every time! And the beauty of it is that if I want multiple copies I don't have to start from the beginning again. DG

I think that you would get a definite message saying that you need to load a key. The fact that it is not responding suggests something else. In VB you keep clicking on NEXT until you reach the last page with: Project Name Create MPEG2 Create DVD Folders Create ISO File Burn DVD disc Turn all other options off and leave the ISO option on - click on start. If it works it will tell us something. DG

Last page of Video Builder. Turn all options off other than the ISO option. If it will create the ISO option then it is your DVD burner etc options that are causing the problem. P.S. Have you changed anything since you last used VB to create a DVD? DG

You have to read all of the video related problems which led to Igor's decision. I am NOT defending or advocating the new system - I am working with it!! I have merely pointed out the reasons for the supposed "anomalies". These become non-anomalies if you fully understand what is happening. There is always the option of turning OFF both switches and creating your standard template as Peter suggested. OR - petition Igor for the OFF position to be the DEFAULT. As my grand-son used to tell me - "It's not rocket science". DG

Geoff, Use just ONE slide and fade three pics in and out by altering their opacities in O&A? DG P.S. The one slide would have to have fixed timings for each of the three images - sorry, I was concentrating on the SOUND issue.

Daniel, You have taken a remark of mine out of context, just as Peter did when I suggested that looking at the O&A screen gave a better understanding of what was happening. In your case - I merely suggested that if you altered the parameters one at a time it would give you a better understanding of what was happening. By all means set more than one parameter at once - AFTER you have understood the implications of what you are doing. I agree that making the options more "visible" would help. DG P.S. Peter, You would either START a new project with these options on or off. Switching in the middle of a project is going to give you problems. If, with those options OFF, I start a new project with 3/9 settings then 4 slides equates to 36 seconds. DG

This thread has been running since 11th June and many have tried the new arrangements and given their views, some for some against. I have always taken the view that if Igor says something is necessary to progress the software then it IS necessary to progress. The beauty of what he has done is that you can still work in the old fashioned way if you prefer. I have never switched the old method on and I'm now very comfortable with the new system. DG

Peter, We'll have to agree to disagree on that. I was only suggesting the use of the O&A for the purpose of understanding the principles involved. Whatever timings are used, if four keyframes are added to the O&A display for demo purposes - start; end of incoming transition; start of outgoing transition; end of outgoing transition - then the effects of changing timings are easily visualised and understood. I have noticed the "last slide/ no outgoing transition" anomaly and have learned to keep a blank slide as my temporary last slide to avoid getting into difficulties. It depends on your methodology - different strokes for different folks (who said that recently?). DG

Again, take a look in O&A view. In spite of the changes that you are making in the overall timing and transition times keyframe positions are maintained. In your case that is 3 seconds. This might not be what Igor intended but that's the reason. P.S. You are changing TWO parameters at the same time. If you change just one parameter at a time then (to me) the logic is maintained and it is easier to understand what is happening. DG

Daniel, That's a long and complicated post, but taking "problem" #1 first you need to recognize that when you add just four slides to a project that last slide has no outgoing transition time which you need to take into account. Changing the transition times of all four slides does not affect the outgoing transition time of slide four because slide four does not have an outgoing transition. Secondly you need to recognize that (with the new arrangements) if you alter the transition time of slide 2 it will alter the overall time of slide 1. This is because the first slide is made up of its own transition, its original time between transitions and the incoming transition of slide two. Keyframes placed in slide one at the begining and end of the incoming (slide 2) transition maintain their RELATIVE positions regardless of any changes made to the transition time of slide 2. I think that the best view for adjusting individual slides is the O&A view. DG

They will go wherever you want them to go in the SLIDE LIST. Click on SLIDE at bottom right of screen. Drag and drop from File List into Slide List. DG
