  1. I have at last found a solution to my own problem I found that I needed to set up the entire motion first. Apply decelerate and then glue the appropriate key point. I then moved the slider in O&A until the object reached the point where I wanted it to fade added a 100% opacity point followed 100ms later by a 10% opacity. Moved the slider to the next position added another 10% opacity point followed 100ms later by a further 100% opacity point. (When I applied the opacity points before applying deceleration they always ended up in the wrong place after applying deceleration. I guess this is probably a fairly obvious result in retrospect.) I added further opacity changes after the time at which the object moved off the screen and then rea djusted my glue point to coincide with the off screen position. I hope this is of some use to someone some time. The solution PZRS.zip Kind Regards Peter
  2. I'm stuck again and would appreciate some help - again! Please. The attached file shows what I am trying to achieve. I have an object moving across the screen from A to D vanishing and reappearing at E. During the move from A to D I want its opacity to drop to 10% at B and come back to 100% at C. This works fine until I try to apply deceleration. I want the object to decelerate uniformly between A and D. I have tried glue and unglue in every way I could but have been unable to get the result I want. Can anyone help me to understand where I am going wrong or is this not possible?? PZR.zip Kind Regards Peter
  3. Hi Dom, I liked the opening part of your demo which I tought a very novel way of capturing someone's interest but, like Jeff I found the zooming distracting. Simple fades may be better. If you wanted to go a step further you could have a parcel that opened to reveal one of your excellent albums  Kind Regards Peter
  4. Hi Den, PTE v5 works extremely well for lots of people with many different systems so I wouldn't give up yet. Lin Evans found, after a suggestion from Igor and in an earlier version of the beta (8 I think), that switching his sound card off and then back on again permanently cured a similar problem. I am not sure if Igor solved this problem in later betas but I am sure he will find an answer to your problem. If you read previous posts you will see that most users are really impressed with the smoothness of transitions, pans and zooms so it has to be something connected with the way you are working or your system. The latter seems unlikely given your spec. Have you tried other peoples shows yet? That would provide useful information for further follow up. You could also post your show with the pte file and images zipped so that others could take a look and see if they have any suggestions as to what is causing the problem. Kind Regards Peter
  5. Hi Den, You don't mention anything about your PC's spec and this could be a possible cause. Have a look at the discussion starting here: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....ost&p=35639 You could also try downloading one or two shows from the "Slide shows created in PictureToExe" part of the forum and seeing if they run smoothly or not. If they do not then it is pretty certain that your system is causing the problem. Kind Regards Peter
  6. Hi Dom, I would like to add my congratulations. The Carousel and the Camera effect are both fascinating examples of what can be done with PTE. The pictures are also rather fine. I like the effect of the coming into focus with the carousel - a very nice touch. Thanks for sharing another great template. Kind Regards Peter
  7. Hi Linda, Here is one solution, a little more work than your old way but not too bad. You can add your comment in the box below the slide and it will appear on the slide in O&A. Adjust the text in any way you want and position it. Use the Copy button on the tool bar. Skip through the slides using the arrows in the top right corner and hit paste on each slide where you wish th comment to appear. Change the position of the comment, and any other features, and repeat the process for your differently oriented photos. Kind Regards Peter
  8. If you want to have an object change its opacity during a non linear pan it seems to be essential that you get the acceleration/deceleration effects correct first. If you decide to try a different non linear pan effect and alter it from say decelerate to smooth the timing of the opacity change is very obviously effected. Peter
  9. Hi Igor, Box_3D_engine: The box has fuzzy edges as it moves around the screen. Box_CPU_engine looks worse as it has fuzzy edges but they are also jagged. If we cannot rely on the quoted figures for response times and they are so far out how can we choose the best monitor to display this type of movement? Kind Regards Peter
  10. Someone posted a useful tip a while back showing how you can copy a slide and then change the background (main image) in O&A thus avoiding the need to duplicate all the object movements (should you wish to do this). I noticed that when I tried this in Beta 12 the image retains its old title and old image in the slide list . It only changes in the slide list if you tick the Main Image box in O&A. If you later go back and untick the Main Image in O&A the slide list still retains its new name and the new image. This seems slightly odd and could be confusing if you are not aware of it. Kind Regards Peter
  11. Geoff, You might like to try with your Antivirus turned off. My AV made a huge difference to start up times and I have now changed to Zone Alarm. McAfee was also reported as being OK. Kind Regards Peter
  12. I thought I would post this under a new topic as I think, after some further testing, that it is probably a systems issue rather than a bug but I canot see any consistent cause. Some people who replied mentioned monitors others video cards. My additional testing consisted of burning DVDs and NOT seeing the trails on my TV. I have (I think) the same video card as Andrew NVIDIA 6600 GT - I get trails he does not. My monitor (Viewsonic 191s) has a 16ms reponse time which is perhaps slow by some standards but it is only 2 years old and is still a current model. Dom could see trails but his monitor appears to have 8ms response time which I thought was about as good as you can get??? Tom mentioned 10 ms and said newer LCDs are much faster. Is there a limiting speed above which PTE/monitor/video card cannot cope??? I would be most interested if anyone can shed any light on this My oroginal post for anyone who wants to look back at previous resonses is at: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....ost&p=41284 Kind Regards Peter
  13. Hi Geoff, I also use 1280 x 1024. I get a screen message saying I should reset to this value for optimum viewing if I set it lower. My monitor is a Viewsonic VP191s. Kind Regards Peter
  14. Hi Jeff, I am by no means an expert on this but I can at least pass on my experience as I had similar problems. I bought a ColorVision Spyder 2 calibration system that enables me to set my LCD monitor up correctly. It is very easy to use and I have had no problems with it. (I understand that Adobe Gamma is no good with LCD monitors and it certainly did not work for me). Having set up the monitor you then need to get a profile for your printer/paper combination. If you want to get really into this you have to ensure that the lighting conditions etc are truly consistent evry time yo recalibrate the monitor. People have written large books on this subject!!! Have a look at www.TheDotFoundry.co.uk for some useful information and a reasonably priced colour profiling service in the UK. I found that I got some very good results using a calibrated monitor and proper profile with Canon PR101 paper. This was really the first time my prints got close to matching my monitor. If I used the same profile with Epson paper I got very different colours. This convinced me that these profiles really work. Good luck if you follow this up. Kind Regards Peter
  15. Hi Ron, Thanks very much indeed. I tried your method and it worked a treat. I could not find anywhere in Photoshop help files how to get to the 256 colours demanded by PTE. I never even looked at Mode! Gareth, I had an old telegraphics file version 1.6f2 and that would not work I updated to 1.6f9 and that was fine. Many thanks Kind Regards Peter
  16. Igor, Yes the start up problem has indeed been solved by changing from CA to Zone Alarm. You will remember this software also caused a problem with your zipped Video Builder Registration key. PTE users should probably be warned of the problems this software seems to create. I now feel liberated! Kind Regards Peter
  17. Barry, I have been getting more and more problems from my use of Computer Associates Internet Security Suite. Today I threw it out and loaded Zone Alarm. Surprise surprise your web site loaded perfectly with Firefox. You may have seen another post where I had problems with start times for PTE Exe files particularly from menus. This problem has also been fixed by removing the CA suite. Kind Regards Peter
  18. Some rather long time ago I downloaded a free plugin that gave me the facility to save files as *.ico. I could then use these as icons anywhere I chose. I have been unable to get this to work in CS2. I may well have forgotten some aspect of the process but I cannot find anything to help me via my web searches. Does anyone know if this is possible in CS2 and if there is a plug in that will do the trick? It always looks good to use your own icon. Peter
  19. Hi Andrew, A most enjoyable presentation - congratulations. I would be interested to know if you simply used long overlapping transitions for some of your more extended movements of one slide over another or if you used O & A with fading overlays. When I saw the show I rememered some of your posts about large panoramics it was ceratinly interesting to see some of them - maybe not your longest (?) but very effective. I look forward to the other four shows in the sequence. Kind Regards Peter
  20. Hi Barry, I was trying to access your sites main page but using Firefox. What happened was that I could see nothing of the left side menu part of the site. It was just a blank. I therefore clicked on a link that took me to the shop. The shop was the only place I could see any menu on the left and that did not have the forum hence my incorrect statement. When I switched to Internet Explorer 6 I could access your main page without any problems and the forum was visible. I have no idea if this is a common problem with Firefox users or not but it may be worth your while to have a notice of some sort suggesting that if people cannot see a menu on the left that they access the site via IE 6. I have come across other sites that specifically say use IE 5 or later or Netscape to access this site. Kind Regards Peter
  21. Hi Ron, If you click on a slide in the thumbnail and enter a comment in the comment box just under "show image" that comment appears as an object in O & A. In O & A you can move it size etc. Click on the next thumbnail and add a new comment for the next slide. You do not see the comment on the thumbnail but you will see it in O & A and in the Preview. Kind Regards Peter
  22. I almost started a new thread "Why are computers such fun"?????? You convinced me the problem had to be something connected with my PC... Tried again same result. Tried a few options changing firewalls same result. Changed from Firefox to IE6 BINGO! I magically saw the forum. Thought No it can't be that. Switched back and forward a couple of times and found it really was the answer. I can't see the text in the left hand strip using Firefox unless I try to buy something. This forces me to log in but gives me a different strip with no forum. If I change and use IE 6 I can see a different strip of text including the forum without logging in. Discovering how much my security suite slows down exe files was bad enough now I find my browser has been playing tricks on me too. We need government health warnings on some of these things! Thanks for all your messages. Apologies to Barry who does have a forum - good news. Kind Regards Peter
  23. Hi Lin, When I find something odd I start to wonder what I have missed so I have checked again and found exactly the same screen. I was logged on and if you look at the screen shot I extracted you will see it shows the "log off" option. But as I say I logged on againg and checked again and it was identical. My screen looked very similar to yours and I did see the PTE pop up banner but no forum. I can't actually read the list on the left of your screen shot but this looks different from mine - weird? Kind regards Peter
  24. Hi Barry, I am not trying to be funny but I cannot find a forum on your web site! I and probably others would find it interesting to look at so could you tell us how to access it? The above jpeg shows your web page as I see it after logging in. Can I get to the forum from here? Bye the way I'm not upset and I expect I will buy more of your tutorials from time to time even if you are the other side of the world. Peter
  25. Hi Barry, I have to say I think your approach to this is quite wrong. I have bought many tutorials and royalty free music through your site and have recommended it on this forum but you do not have a forum on your site. If anyone asks you a question on Vista you will give them an answer if you can BUT it will not be readilly accessible to others. The answer to any question asked by any participant in this forum is avalable to anyone else who takes the trouble to search for it. I don't think you are loosing anything by telling people to look for answers on this forum. You could make it really easy for visitors to your site by providing exact links to the answers they are seeking. The forum is one of the great strengths of PTE and the contributors have helped me enormously. I am sure, however, that none of them would feel happy if they thought you were effectively using them to make you look like the greatest expert on everything PTE. Peter
