  1. Guido: Glad my notes helped. Sorry about leaving out "centimetres". Us old people on this side of the pond have not fully adapted to the sensible unit of measure. But my kids (28 and 30 years old) have no idea what an inch, foot or yard is. Maybe someday some of us less fortunate ones born on this side of the pond will also learn more than one language....
  2. Bill: I have never updated my Windows Media Player since purchasing the computer in 2001 as I never use it. I seem to remember WMP kicking in the odd time with audio CDs, but rarely. The only thing that continually seems to start on its own (other than "autorun" CD's I make) are audio CDs (that I am about record from) that MusicMatch Jukebox (a two year old version) kicks in with. I only use MP3 (and wav) files in association with AV shows - both analog and digital. Other than that my computer is not a "music player".
  3. I discovered a quirk this afternoon when I created a autorun CD with the PTE .exe file named: "ftpgsfront.ex" (if you must know: short for "family tree pages front page" - a "front page" exe file from which three PTE shows run) When the autorun kicked in, Internet Explorer started dialing my ISP. Seems it thought it had a "ftp" request. (File Transfer Protocol) Not sure it was my computer or WinME or any Win OS. Just thought I would pass it aloong in case someone else happens to name a file starting with the same three letters.
  4. Jim: Don't you love computers !!! Once you get them behaving they are great, but until then If you do have to re-size the images, you can do it PhotoShop using FILE>AUTOMATE. I am not sure if IRFANVIEW will do it, others might as well There have been brief discussions on this in other threads. Good luck, as you say it should be a breeze once you conquer this problem.
  5. Guido et al: I agree with you about changing the resolution etc re file size. One thing not many people understand well is the image size vs print(document) size vs file size in digital photography. My take on it (from a PhotoShop perspective) "Image" size is the pixel size (eg 800x600 pixels) on the monitor screen, "print(document)" size is the image dimension (eg 4x6 inches) when printed on paper "file" size is the size of the image on your storage device (hard drive or CD etc) in bytes (eg 250kb). The initial image and file sizes are determined by the scan resolution or digital camera. In PTE, I don't bother even thinking about the print/document size. After scanning at 1200 or 2400ppi, I adjust the image size for the screen size I want. If the resultant file size is too large, I then control it by the jpg quality. I usually use jpg quality of 6 (out of 10 in PS 5.0). My finished images in PTE stay at the 1200 or 2400ppi that I scanned them at. In PhotoShop, with "resample" checked ON, (IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE), changing the resolution(ppi) does reduce the image size and thus the file size. This, to me, confuses everyone as they then think reducing the ppi is the only way to reduce file size. If the "resample" is off, and you change the resolution, the image and file size stay the same, and the print size changes. In a perfect world, everyone should spend a few hours playing with IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE in PhotoShop to see what really goes on. Wayne Fulton's "A Few Scanning Tips" at www.scantips.com is of help as well. That is my two cents worth on my understanding of all this
  6. Welcome to PTE But I hope you are not going to be too disappointed, as based on several threads in the recent past, no one seems to have managed to find a sortware/utility that let's PTE work on a MAC. If you check some past threads, or search for "Mac", you will find several pages on this topic
  7. Here is my two cents worth.... Virtually all my shows use "FADE" as the transition between images. This is a very intensive process for a computer. As some of my shows are shown on computers of various vintages and horsepower, I use PhotoShop to reduce the images to 800x600 and save them as jpg quality 6. While the images might be a little smaller than some might like, I can be confident that the show will work smoothly on most (not all) computers. If you are not using FADE, it is amazing how large an image (and show size) even older computers can handle in PTE. An example: One show I have that uses essentially only CUTS runs beautifully on a firend's computer that immediately freezes with a short show with slow FADES. Jim
  8. Mark: From the sound of your note, I gather you did not keep a copy of the key in your back-up files. I suspect you will have to go to WNSOFT and explain the situtation and likely they will provide you with a new key. Maybe someone else will have another solution Jim
  9. Silversurfer: Interesting suggestions you have. Have you looked at using OBJECT EDITOR as I think some (not all) of those features are already available, but perhaps not as flexibly as you might like.
  10. Tim: Sorry I can't help with the phone number. Igor keeps an eye on the forum, he should see the note, but not sure it will be before the weekend as it is likely Saturday already in Russia where Igor is.
  11. Jeff: Welcome to PTE I have not had this problem in PTE, but it sounds (pardon the pun) to me like the speakers you are using via the laptop and projector are not very good. I use a separate sound system (PEAVY Escort 2000 - a somewhat heavy thing but wonderful system) when I present my shows. I run a patch cord from the laptop to the PEAVY and all is wonderful. I used to use a "boom box" until I showed up at what was supposed to be a small group in a small room, but turned out to be 150 people in a LARGE hall. The next day I bought the PEAVY. I have had problems with the PEAVY though (and another amplifier) when it is used with an old tape deck used in conjunction with a CLEAR-LYTE 35mm dissolve show. We are not sure, but there seems to be a phase issue between the two. See http://www.peavey.com/ for details on Peavy system
  12. Glad your problem is solved ! No need to feel stupid, foolish or anything other than "just learning" There are all sorts of subtilities, and obvious - in hindsight - things that we miss that others can point us to. That is one real value I see with the forum. Have fun with PTE
  13. richierich: If I understand correctly what you want to do... When you go to PROJECT OPTIONS > EFFECTS, there are two sets of squares stack on top of each other in the upper right part of the dialogue box. One set has check marks in it, one is blank Clicking on these will reset all the effects to "on" or "off" Hope that will help
  14. Travis: To make your "menu" (I like to call it a "front page") make a one image pte show and have the CD auto start that exe file. This show should keep the image on screen at the end of the show. Then in your one image, place OBJECTS with links that RUN APPLICATION and point to the other exe file, one exe file per object. Use OBJECT EDITOR to do this. Only drawback is that the OBJECTS change their relative location with different screen resolutions Hope that helps and is not too unclear (This question comes up frequently and we really should have a "how to" section on the forum.)
  15. Bruman See a thread further down the forum http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...ct=ST&f=2&t=570
  16. Welcome to PTE Storybook !!!! I think you will find both features you want here: PROJECT OPTIONS > ADVANCED and look at the bottom of the page: CUSTOMIZE TRIAL USE DETAILS and DON'T ALLOW SCREEN PRINTS
  17. Alan: There have been several requests for changes regarding Object Editors in the recent past, but they tend to get lost in threads of other topics. ( I am hoping that Igor will be adding a new forum topic that will allow us to post request for changes and maybe vote for them. That will make it easier to see what is being suggested ) Having said that, there have been some requests to have the object editors remain in the same relative place regardless of the screen resolution. Is this the point you are making in your first request ?
  18. Bruman and loujan: Welcome to the Pcture to Exe Forum ! This is a forum for the discussion of PTE by its users. In the past discussions of competing products has not been appreciated. Yes, there are competing softwares available and they have there pros and cons, just like PTE can not be all things to all people. We all want Igor to add more and more variant features and he does a marvelous job of that. The ideas for these additional features come from various sources. For my needs you can't beat PTE. Other products can be discussed in forums supplied by their manufacturers or users. Which of course do not readily exist. This forum is another great feature of PTE !
  19. Did you set the OBJECT properties to "transparent" ? I realize that you said it already was a transparent gif, but what little I have done with these gif files is that they do show up with a white background in various softwares. Setting the OBJECT properties has assured me all is OK. I suspect someone else will have a more technical explanation
  20. Pushu You can do that here very easily. Click on "Track this topic" which you can find just below any thread when you have it "opened"
  21. I second Eddie's and Guido's comments
  22. Luigi: Welcome to the Forum. There has been extensive discussion on this topic, but I can't quickly locate the thread in the forum. If you page through the forum, I am sure you will find it. But the bottom line is that you need an "emulator" or something like that for a MAC to run PTE. (MAC's don't like exe files from a PC I gather)
  23. Jan: What do you mean by a "beamer" ? If you mean projector, the limited experience I have had has shown that lower quality propjectors are more suspectible to pixels (vertical rectangles) appearing on the screen. The pixels are more visible the closer you are to the screen. The type of screen can be a factor. A lenticular screen, while brightest of all, is not as good when the viewer watches from off to the side. The texture of the lenticular screen can also seem to be pixels. Glass beaded screens are better than lenticular when viewed from the side and the texture is not as noticeable. A matte screen is general the best.
  24. Thumbs Plus is excellent for sorting, but you have to manually re-number. Don't forget Alrobin's PTE Adjustor. It gives you a light table to sort all your images in a PTE file, you don't have to re-number the images, it puts them back into the .pte file in the order you want. See http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...ct=ST&f=2&t=419
  25. Alrobin's PTE Adjustor has a "dark" table sort feature for images files loaded into PTE. see http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...ct=ST&f=2&t=419
