Lin, I just tried what I suggested in Post #34 and it works OK. I had to go back to 6.5 because of the current problems in 7Beta 11. Add the SAME MP3 to Track 2 and offset it to give the amount of overlap silence required. Flatten the Wave and the second Track plays silently after the firs Track. The Timed Points can be set as Peter suggested and the total time works out OK. I checked the Overall EXE size and in my case it is 62.2Mb with or without the second track so it is adding nothing to the project size. DG

Igor, BB was not in MUSIC TAB when he got it. Is that relevant? DG
-
Here's a step by step perhaps someone else can try it. Project Options - Music Tab Add a piece of music to track one. Add a new Track 2 Add the same piece of music to track 2 and press OK. At this point I'm OK but the two tracks are running "in Parallel". Go back to Music Tab - click on the piece of music in track 2 and click on the wave form Icon. This brings up the waveform and envelope tool and I'm still OK. Click on Customise to bring up the Audio Clip Properties - still OK. Set the Offset to the same time as the length of track one - Click on OK and all **** lets loose!!!!!! DG P.S. I'll try this in 6.5

I'm getting it as well. I added a track - added a piece of music to the new track and configured it - then pressed OK and got the same screen as BB. I don't know if I can do a screen grab - I just reached for Ctrl - Alt-Del. That's the only way out. DG

Thanks Stu, You're right of course. DG

Lin, We may be talking at cross purposes and I might not be correct here but go with me for a while. Let's say that your show (minus the end credits) fits to a piece of music which is 7m 30s long and you want the credits to be 1m long. What I am suggesting is that you add the SAME piece of music to TRACK 2 and configure it to play 1m of the MP3 silently (say between zero and 1m). In effect you now have an 8m 30s track of which 1m is silent and you haven't added anything to the project. You only have the original 7m 30s piece of music in the folder. I hope that I have explained what I am thinking correctly and that there's nothing I have missed. DG

Back to the original discussion: I've just noticed something which is going to mean a new way of thinking. I resumed work on a project in which the slide duration (in Beta 10) had been set to 4 seconds (start of slide a to start of slide b ) plus 1.5 sec transition. I added some slides and straight away noticed that the new slides were 2.5 seconds from start of slide a to start of slide b. It took a little while to figure it out. The Beta 11 four seconds equates to Beta 10 2.5 seconds (plus 1.5 sec transition). I reset all slides to 6.5 seconds and got what I wanted - 6.5 seconds includes two transitions - 4 seconds including "incoming transition" PLUS 2.5 seconds "outgoing transition". Not a complaint - just an observation. I'm OK with it. DG

Would using part of an existing MP3 (silenced) use less resources? DG

But Lin, Can't the facilities created by Igor supply the "silent" MP3 from ANY piece of music? DG

Attached is an EXE showing my way with Polygonally Shaped 3D objects. I had to get it out of my system and I now feel much better. If you are an AV purist please don't download it because it has nothing to do with pure AV. I have left the audio track off to save space, but if Bill will host it I will put a copy there (with music). DG Polygon.zip

Hi Lin, I'm not sure that I agree that what I said was a "workaround". Surely, that's the way that we have always worked? Pte allows us to put in as many MP3s as desired and one of those (the last one) could just as easily be a "silent" MP3 or a regular MP3 of the correct length which has been silenced? The other approach is to create the music track in Audition or Soundbooth or the other one and incorporate the silence at the end. Either way, the show would end in the right place. Workaround? I certainly don't think so. You seem to be having people queueing up at your door to volunteer to write sections of the "new User's Manual" Maybe it needs someone to jump in before the others will consider it so I'll help out if I can. Hi Igor, The Assertion Failure Error has happened twice since installing Beta 11 but I cannot "force" it to happen this time. I will make a full screen copy if/when it happens again. Thanks, DG

Hi Igor, Any news on the Assertion Failure problem? I'm now on Beta 11 - still happening. DG

Add the necessary "silent" MP3 to cover the "roll scripts"? DG

Making opacity an inheritable attribute
davegee replied to fh1805's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Lin, I believe that Peter covered your point by asking that the ability be switchable, presumably defaulting to OFF. The new user might not even know it is there but the advanced user could take advantage of it as and when required. DG -

Lin, I find your description of what Peter is suggesting as "esoteric" to be a little strange. Surely, it is a fundamental of 3D animation that the child in a Parent/Child relationship should inherit ALL properties of the parent? I would agree with Peter that this fundamental principle could/should be ironed out before proceeding. If, however, Igor says that the hurdles are too high then so be it. DG -
Hi Igor, I have tried my project in both 6.5 and 7Beta10 on both my desktop and my Vista laptop and the "hesitation" that I am seeing at the end/beginning of a loop is the same on both machines. However, I think that I have cured the problem by altering the start position of the picture frame. In the original the start end was 90 degrees to the viewer. I have altered it so that the start position is zero degrees and this has (apparently) cured it. I no longer see any hesitation. Thanks for your patience!! DG

Igor, Did you miss my P.S. (in Red)
-
Hi Igor, Yes, it occurs (on my PC) in both Preview and EXE on the second slide after each 360 degree turn of the Frame - when the frame is at 90 degrees to the viewer. I did not see this in 6.5 but this was created in 7 beta 10. I'm not sure that I have ever used a looping slide with animation before!! My system is Windows XP Media Centre Edition Service Pack 3 (Pentium 3.00 GHz; 2Gb RAM; nVidia GeF 7600 GS; 500Mb RAM) and it could well be that it is now a little "outdated" but I have no need/desire to upgrade to a later system until Nikon NX2 becomes fully 64 Bit Compatible. DG P.S. I also see this effect when playing the EXE on my Vista Laptop. The hesitation is very slight but noticable.

I too, was confused by Jean-Cyprien's post. I see nothing above which refered to anything that he said or which suggested that he was denigrating Peter's proposal. Was something lost in translation???? DG -
Hi Igor, File uploaded to Media Fire - link in PM. DG

Peter's suggestion is a good one and obviates the need for any "workaround". Experienced users find it much easier to find "workarounds" and we sometimes think that modifications are not necessary because these "workarounds" exist. The fewer "workarounds" in the process, the easier it is for new the user to understand it quicker. DG -
