  1. G'day Bob You have more than enough "grunt" to run PTE without problems on your PCs. Like Ken I use a separate folder with copies of all the images for each show, the PTE file and a sub folder with the associated sound files and notes in it. I save all my EXE files to the one folder and keep a copy of this folder in off computer backup storage. Currently there is 26 files in this folder with no problems. Naming the show/PTE folder with the show name and creating the separate folders for each show is a small task when the benefit gained is to keep things tidy and allow quick location of my work.
  2. G'day Cor, See my comments here: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6657 I have asked for several sound tracks to be added.
  3. Over 1000 images, 21 hours for P2E deluxe to make the ISO image, that must be some sort of a record for PTE. Great to know PTE Deluxe will do such a big job without fault, a good test for beta12. Geoff, Yes the indicator, ("P" button), that shows customisation of an image is certainly missing in V5-beta12 and I also found it very useful. Perhaps you should post this as a bug in the "Bug Reports v5.00 beta..." forum, as I'm not sure if it has been removed deliberately or just overlooked, it would be good to have it back. Now I think about it an "O" indicator button to show that some "O&A" work has been done to an image would also be very useful.
  4. Stevie, I like this idea a lot. It would be good if the user could select how many pixels wide the key-line was at the starting point. Also the colour of the key-line.
  5. Nice demo Al, it explaines all, thanks. Ron I got your pdf tutoral and found it very instructive, thanks also.
  6. [G'day Peter, Stevie Thanks for your help. This was my fault, maybe I'm going blind in my old age. I use a slightly different layout in PTE of the main window and so top right wasn't the same for me. However I should have seen the comments field under the main slide preview window. I always used the comments tab and never this one so couldn't see it for looking. Thanks again all.
  7. G’day again Lin, I certainly don’t mean for Igor and team to rush off and develop these enhancements tomorrow, next week next month or possible not even next year. This forum is called “Ideas and suggestions for future versions” and I take that to mean suggestions for next week to the next 5 or more years. That is why I suggested he look at the sound editing enhancement for V6, which I think will be well into next year or even later. Last year I retired after spending 32 years in the IT industry and got my life/health back, a good nights sleep and back in touch with what really matter. I do understand the demands on people working in software development. Some of that time I was in audio labs in the telecommunication industry developing software tools and I do have a good idea on what is required to develop these enhancements. Here in Australia “Sony Veags Movie/DVD studio Plat” sells for A$299, equal I think to about US$185. Even so PTE is as you said a true gem. I think if they were the same price this would still be true of PTE. I too have tried most of the software you mentioned. In fact I started in AV work when 2 Kodak Carousel projectors, a dissolve unit built myself from discreet components (no chips then), and a 7” reel to reel tape deck was the go. We don’t know just how luck we are with a PC and PTE. For 35 plus years I have been involved in the camera club area in Australia and because of my IT background I often get a request for help from photographers moving too digital photography and the associated AV area. Most AV makers here use Pinnacle or ProShow and when I suggest they give PTE a try they will come back with the comment "Very good but no sound editing". Great to have this dialogue with you Lin. Kicking these ideas around on this forum and how Igor listens to user wishers is one of the reasons PTE is so good, thanks.
  8. G’day Lin, Let me say at the start, what PTE does it does better than anyone else, I use it for that reason and also because of this forum where you and many others provide such great support for the product, thank-you heaps. However the one area where PTE dose not compete is sound addition and editing. This may not be a “deal killer” to you but is important to some, (maybe many), of the PTE users. The sound quality in PTE is excellent but the basics of editing are not there. Until beta5 I used “Sony Vegas” to produce a show if I wanted to make a DVD or if I had an involved soundtrack. I suggest you look at it to see what ideal sound edition in an AV/Movie application can be. There are many other products that provide very good sound editing well above what is available in PTE. However in all other areas they don’t compare well to PTE, that is why I use it, and would like to see it the standard all others are judged by. I now see this as the last area to develope for PTE to become the standard of excellence for all the others to try and follow if they can. I don’t want all the “bells and whistles” of sound adjustment and manipulation in PTE these functions are only occasionally needed and don’t warrant the big investment of time to develop in PTE. That can be done in more advanced sound editors as required. It is the basic sound editing I am asking for. Fading in/out, adjustment of the start and end position in msec, volume control, mixing of 2/3 sound sources, joining sound files with or without fades, inserting silence, etc. I would suggest this could be done by developing the time-line window to a full screen and adding 2/3 sound channels. One channel could be used for music, one for a second music track or commentary and the last for sound effects. Each sound file required could be loaded into the desired channel at the point in time the author required, and have its fade in/out and volume adjusted. Where the author required sound files to overlap, as in music and commentary, the appropriate channel could have its volume adjusted for a selected time period to allow mixing of the 2 files. The music tabs in project options and customise slide would have their functions moved to this screen. Thus keeping all sound functionally in one area. Igor this I know would involve a major amount of time and work, maybe V6, please!
  9. G'day S.Bidouze I too agree, basic sound editing on several audio timelines would be a great addition to PTE. To keep thing tidy this topic should be posted in the "Ideas and suggestions for future versions" area.
  10. G'day Peter, I too am trying to add individual comments to different images and tried your method. When I left click on the thumbnail (main screen) nothing happens, double left click gives the customise slide options nothing here as described. When I right click I get a pick list but nothing here to add comments. Double right click gives the same list. Are you using Beta5 v11? or an earlier version? Can you elaborate please?
  11. G'day Alain I would like to see this function very much.
  12. G'day Andrew, I think this can be done in the timeline now, (as it can be done in the standard screen), using the <shift> and/or <Ctrl> keys while selecting the range/combination of images. Then they can be moved while holding the key down to wherever you wish keeping all parameters and timing relationships. Not sure if this is want you want though.
  13. Just loaded Beta11 and am delighted with the way all the above issues have been addressed. A big thank-you to Igor and all concerned.
  14. A much better layout/tidyup. Just one question. I assume all DVD related issues/discussion etc (for all previous versions) and from v5.10 on now belong in the "How to create video" section.
  15. G'day Ken, Lin, ADB, What a great idea. I'm all for keeping the forum as tidy as possible with the up-most information provided, and input from PTE users encouraged. This is one of the best forums I've seen in that regard. This could be the only problem I see and result in the topic becoming "messy". It relies on the people that make suggestions becoming aware of the acceptance/declined status of their suggestion and the promptness of their action. Maybe when the suggestion is reviewed by Igor and/or team they should move the post to the appropriate area immediately. P.S ADB How is this done? P.P.S. ADB I too love lists, must be something about living in the southern hemisphere.
  16. G'day Al I like to use the space-bar to pause a show when watching the .exe file at times too. However I feel the use or not of this function, (as with all other functions), should be up to the author of the show to decide how he/she wishes to present their AV. As a result I would like the choice of allowing the use or not of this function. As someone who is still learning PTE I wish to know if I have this choice, as in beta10 I don't appear to be able to disable the spacebar. Having the spacebar disabled by default is a secondary issue with me if I have the choice somewhere to disable it. Yes, this would be very useful if the viewer is allowed to use the pause function by the author.
  17. It may be my inexperience with PTE Beta10, or the function may no be available yet, but can someone tell me how to disable the space-bar from pausing the show? I have tried all the options I can think of with no result. Also I find to stop the F1 button displaying the "help about hot keys" menu in a show I must untick the [] Disable F1 Key to stop this from happening. This function would seem to have the incorrect description. Ticking this box Enables the F1 key not disable it!!! Finally I would like to see "Permit control of show with keyboard or mouse" disabled by default in the project options. I only use this in the very occasional show as I suspect others also do. Any comments?
  18. G'day Dominique, Great to have your very useful site back, thanks.
  19. I G'day Charlie This is an important question and there is much debate on the subject. It depends greatly on the purpose of the AV, subject matter, sound track and who the intended viewing audience will be. In general 10 minutes is about the limit for most "general purpose" shows for the public. If you check most AV competitions/exhibitions you will find they have a limit of around 10 minutes. Longer than this most viewers will loose concentration, no matter how good the show. This is probably the result of the "wham bang TV world" we have been feed for some 40+ years. Also these days people are highly visually literate. A show for family and friends can be longer as they will relate to the people/events in the show more than the general public. For me I would still keep the show tight and go no longer than 15-18 minutes for family and friends . I once sat through a 45 minute show of a friends granddaughters life from birth to her 21st birthday. While my friend was an excellent photographer I found this a test of my endurance after 15 minutes. However her immediate family loved the show and asked to see it again.
  20. I echo all of the above and WHOOPEE!! can"t wait. Thanks again to all involved.
  21. G'day Dom, So sorry to read of your problems, your site has provided us with so much in the past and would be a great loss if not reestablished somehow. It would be great if you could let us know if the reestablishment of you site is happening and what progress has been made. I will keep my fingers crossed, good luck and best wishers.
  22. Thanks Ken. I will wait for beta10 to get the navigation bar.
  23. Thanks Tom. I didn't see the scroll bar. DER!! Having one of those days.
  24. I to spent some time looking for this function without noticing the scroll bar.
  25. G'day Jeff I also have 3 versions installed and in the add/remove list Version 4.48 is not listed. The other 2 are beter5 and 9a. This is a good idea for many reasons, among them to prevent confusion of archived .ZIP files. Also I have just noted the default installation folder name now contains the version number.
