Hi Caperucita, Actually it has been very productive. The false positive has been identified, the developer is now aware of it and will advise AVG so you have done a favor for both the developer and for the PTE forum users. You have pointed us to a good solution for recovering images and music when we have the executable but have lost the images or music. Not bad work for your second post! Best regards, Lin

Hi Marian, Actually, it's not the same. Yes, a CTRL Print SCR can be used as can any good screen capture tool to capture anything shown on the screen but it only captures the screen resolution and not the original file. This program extracts the original as it is embedded in the EXE file. It can also extract your MP3 and a host of other formats so it is actually a very useful program. Best regards, Lin

Hi Caperucita, You have no reason to feel like that. You did not provide a link to the software you simply suggested it. You are not the author or distributor of the software so any responsibility for a trojan being in the code or not is that of the distributor. You should not be offended by a warning because of a positive or false positive and even if the threat turned out to be real this is no reflection on you. There have been warnings in big red letters just like this one for some of our own slideshow executables made with PTE when AVG and other software returned false positives after checking them. This is nothing new here, it's been going on for several years. We must take computer virus warnings very seriously. Some virus infections have been so bad that it's not been possible to remove them from the computer requiring a complete hard drive re-format so we take potential trojan and virus warnings very seriously. The large red letters simply alert users to the possibility that a threat exists and no one blames anyone because they suggest a software which might be infected. Do not let this experience affect the way you feel about this forum or the people here who appreciate your efforts to provide a solution for a problem. But do not be surprised when virus or trojan infestations are reported in large red letters because we owe it to the forum users to warn them whether the software is our own or from some other source. Best regards, Lin
-
And your point? As I said earlier, it does little good to announce a potentially dangeous threat if people do not see it. You are complaining about something which is unimportant. The point of the large red letters was to make people aware. If you don't believe that making people aware of a potentially dangerous threat is important then you obviously have never had a bad experience from a virus or trojan infection on your own computer. You are a new poster on this forum and your second post was to suggest a software. When this software trial was downloaded my AVG 8 anti-threat software revealed a trojan infection. I have a responsibility to let people here know about that potential threat and the best way to do that is to be certain that the message is noticed and the best way to do this is exactly as AVG does, with large red letters. If you find that offensive then I'm sorry for that, but I will not apologize for using large red letters to reveal a potentially dangerous software. Best regards, Lin
-
If that means I want to be certain that the message was noticed then I'm proud to be an "alarmist". It does little good to announce a potentially dangerous threat from a download if people don't see it does it?? We appreciate the information, and I understand that English isn't your native tongue which is why I mentioned that you probably meant "unlock code". Best regards, Lin

I just received this reply from the MultiExtractor developer: I suggested that he contact AVG to report the false positive.....
-
Hi Peter, AVG 8 reports the indicated trojan on the identical download. It didn't report while the download was in process but does report the trojan when I run it on the downladed exe file. I could be a false positive because that has happened with AVG in the past with PTE executables. Best regards, Lin

Hi Caperucitaroja, I'm not sure what an "alarmist" is, but I have a responsibility to report what I find. I always run new executable code through my virus detection software before installing it - I think it's only prudent to do that. Perhaps you have never lost hours or days of productivity because of virus or trojan infections, but I have, and since my living depends on my computer systems perhaps I am cautious for good reasons. It could turn out to be a false positive - I have advised the developer of the program of my findings and I'm certain that he will test it for himself and if it is indeed a false positive then he can contact AVG and get it cleared up. Meanwhile, it is up to any person who downloads to determine whether or not to try the software but it's important for awareness that the potential for a destructive trojan infection exists. I would hope that if I recommend a software that any user finding a positive for infection reports it in the same way. I'm a little concerned about your comment: "crack not included" Why would one expect a "crack" for a software program? A "crack" is an illegal theft of intellectual property. This software sells for as little as $2 for a single purpose extract. For PTE most would only use jpg, png and prehaps gif retrieval unless they wanted to extract their music so why would anyone want to "steal" this code from the developer? People here are not thieves and they expect to pay for their software not steal it. Perhaps you mean "unlock code" and improperly used the term "crack?" Best regards, Lin me='caperucitaroja' post='55220' date='Jul 30 2008, 03:55 PM'] Lin Evans you are an alarmist. It is right, but I think this is a false positive. Here a link to Multiestractor 2.72c Crack not included. http://www.mediafire.com/?mmimot1ty1s There is not any virus or troyans. I scaned with AVG 8 and with ZoneAlarm Security Suite. Caperucitaroja

Hi Bart, It's not quite working correctly yet. I tried to log in and the site wouldn't accept my password so I gave my email address and was sent another. It wouldn't accept the cut and past from the new password either so some bug still remains. Best regards, Lin

Hey Ken, Wow! I can't believe anyone actually downloaded 1.09 gigabytes! It was done for my daughter, son-in-law and grand kids but I thought perhaps some might find it interesting - especially rodeo fans so I uploaded it to my site. Thanks for the feedback! Best regards, Lin -
Hi Mark, You've captured the essence of Yellowstone in winter beautifully! Best regards, Lin

I need explanation of some PTE menu choices...

Hi Steve, You're absolutely right. I should have explained that the "perception" part comes from "perspective correction." The "perspective zoom" when zooming out starts fast and slows and when zooming in starts slow then speeds up near the end of the zoom. The "perception" of a linear zoom is that when zooming out, as an object gets smaller it appears to accelerating in zoom out even though the actual rate of change is linear. As an object grows larger and closer it "appears" to be moving toward the observer more slowly even though it really is changing size at a linear rate. So the "perspective" zoom "corrects" for our perspective by reversing this process. At least that's the way it appears to the human eye in most cases. Best regards, Lin -
"IF" you have a fast broadband and "IF" you love rodeo, this is a tome! I had the pleasure of shooting one of the fine rodeos at Cheyenne Wyoming last week. Rodeo is a way of life for some here in the western U.S. - when I was young I loved the sport and still have some scars and mended broken bones from my follies of youth. These days I'm content to feed my 31 year old quarter horse and we both prefer to "watch" the kids participate in the "Grand Daddy of Them All" at Cheyenne. No frills, no zooms, pans or rotates, just 62 minutes of pure western sport with about six seconds per frame and some great rodeo music by the late, great rodeo cowboy and singer Chris LeDoux and the pride of Canada and former rodeo cowboy Ian Tyson and his former wife Sylvia Fricker. Not for the faint of heart - and contrary to my normal shows and against my own advice, a huge hour-long tome but worth it if you are a rodeo fan. Note 7/29/08: reworked resampling algorithm to reduce size to ~730 meg on same link: http://www.lin-evans.net/cheyenne/Cheyenne.zip (730 meg download) Best regards, Lin

How are you displaying the images on the TV? If you are using a DVD player check the settings. If you are using cables from the computer which type are you using? The aspect ratio is correct from the output of PTE as are the number of pixels so the issues are either in settings or cables in the device which feeds your television. The only thing which could upset the output is if you are not using "Original" mode. Fit to slide or Cover slide will not give you the correct output for the television so be sure you are using "Original" mode. This won't look correct on the computer unless you have a 16:9 display device. Computer wide screens are usually 16:10 aspect ratio. Soft, Disproportional images when burned to DVD

It sounds like perhaps you are using PAL when you need NTSC or vice versa. Look under Project Options in Video Builder and be sure you have the correct setting for your area. Best regards, Lin -

Hi Dave, Just a minor correction. The zoom may be linear or non-linear without perspective correction. Smooth, accelerate and decelerate (slow down) are all non-linear zooms as is perspective correction. Linear zoom begins and continues at a speed determined by the time duration between keyframes for the start and end of the zoom. Decelerate (slow down) begins fast and slows continually as the zoom progresses. Accelerate begins slowly and continually speeds until the end of the zoom. Smooth begins slowly, accelerates to a speed determined by the time between keyframes then progresses until near the end of the zoom at a linear rate then slows for the stop. Perspective correction attempts to mirror a zoom such as you would get with a movie camera in which for a zoom out large subjects appear to start slowly then as the image gets smaller the speed appears to accelerate. Conversely, when zooming in small objects appear to first zoom quickly then the perception is that the zoom slows as the object gets closer. By the way, see page 38 and page 61 in Jeff and my user guide for an explanation of Transparent to Selection and Ignore Objects Not Selected respectively. Best regards, Lin -
You can set the grid steps in pixels, but because the smallest increment is 10 and the largest is 200 you must highlight one number at a time. For example, to replace the number 45 with 16 you would first highlight the 5 and type 6 then highlight the 4 and type 1. Lin

Hi Gilbert, Just open up the screen capture software and find the capture key - usually something like PRT SCRN, etc., then play the slide show and capture the images one at a time as they play. Best regards, Lin

Congratulations Igor! About five pages devoted to Powerpoint, twenty one pages to Windows Movie Maker and seventy to PTE! I like the distribution! Best regards, Lin

Hi Bern, Thanks for testing it for me! Best regards, Lin

Hi Auser, I haven't tried Vimeo but the primary reason for posting on Youtube is the extreme exposure for PTE, etc. I have hundreds of gigabytes of storage on my own site server so posting large high-quality media isn't really the issue but rather more of how many visitors visit the site daily. Do you have some idea of the traffic at Vimeo? Best regards, Lin
