  1. Gary, As far as I can recall, on the few occasions when I have duplicated a show in that manner, the path details didn't get updated until I had done a "Save As" to a new file name in the new folder. Someone with more recent experience may be able to confirm that or provide a better solution. regards, Peter
  2. Eric, Your topic title and the video's title bar both state H360 but in the voice over you state 600. Which model is it please? Peter
  3. Thanks for that clarification, Robert. This highlights a major concern that I have with PTE's user interface, especially in v7.5. The same keyboard key (or keyboard shortcut) can have a different effect in different views. I feel sure that this has to be a source of confusion for users both new and experienced. Taking the spacebar as being just one example: -in the Slides view it switches the selected image into full-screen display and then back again. -in the Timeline view it operates as a Play/Pause control for the mini-player -in the O&A view it operates as a Play/Pause control but only after the play has been initiated with the "Play" button I feel sure that users, especially new users, would prefer a situation where, having discovered what a particular key does in one part of the product they have confidence that the same key will do the same thing in other parts of the product. regards, Peter
  4. Robert, Are you saying that, on your Vista system, whilst having the Slides view open, you can start the mini-player by pressing the spacebar? On my Win 7 system, when in the Slides view, pressing the spacebar simply takes the currently selected image into fullscreen display of the image - no sound, no advance through the sequence. The spacebar only becomes operable as a play/pause toggle after the mini-player has been started into "play" mode using the "Play" button. In that respect, the mini-player behaves just the same as the O&A window. The play function has to be started before the spacebar becomes an active toggle switch. regards, Peter
  5. It just goes to show that, in today's digital world, you can no longer believe what your eyes see! regards,Peter
  6. As I have tried to say twice before in this topic: there is no such feature as "authorise the spacebar" in v7.5. The functions performed by the keys on the keyboard are hard-coded into PTE. regards, Peter
  7. Eric, I don't spend every waking minute sat on the forum waiting for the next post to arrive. I don't even have it set to send me any e-mails. I dip in and out, fairly frequently, as and when I have time. On each visit I deal with what I feel I have time for. On this visit I feel I have time to deal with your last two posts. The comment above deals with the second of those. Now to the one that upset you... The point I was trying to make - and clearly failed to do so - was that in your dialogue with Robert you had offered advice (i.e. your reference to "authorising the spacebar") that was based on what you thought v7.5 did. I feel certain that users coming to this forum with usage problems will expect to receive advice based, not on another person's beliefs about the product, but based upon another person's actual experience of the product. If I upset you with my earlier post then I apologise. As I hope you realise, I never set out to deliberately upset forum users. regards, Peter
  8. Just one point of clarification... Eric, Your point about "authorising the spacebar" is an irrelevance. There is no such feature in v7.5. If you were using v7.5 you would have the relevant knowledge and your own understanding would, as a consequence, be that much greater. regards, Peter
  9. I have, I think, successfully split out the dialogue that was relevant to Robert Albright's post in this topic and have created a new topic "Problem with spacebar in O&A window" in the general part of the forum. I have also deleted the three posts (mine and Dave's) in which we briefly discussed the need for the action that I have taken. I also PM'd Robert and let him know what I was intending to do. Hopefully all the i's have been dotted and all the t's crossed! If anyone feels that there are still loose ends that need tidying up, please let me know. regards, Peter P.S. I got around to this sooner than expected because my dinner party guests called off because of the weather conditions. We are getting heavy snowfalls (by UK standards) and my guests are well into their 70s and didn't want to drive.
  10. Robert, You have declared you are using PTE v7.5.0. Eric has declared he is using v7.0.7 and I have declared I am using v7.5.3. Until we are all using the same version of PTE across different operating systems, we cannot make any pronouncements about anything being an operating system difference. Based on the evidence we have at present, this could be variation in the different PTE versions. In PTE version 7.5.3, F4 toggles the Timeline view to/from fullscreen if you are in the Timeline view and toggles the Slide List to/from fullscreen mode if you are in the Slides view. F3 always toggles the File List panel to/from fullscreen view. I cannot speak for earlier versions of PTE as I now have only v7.5.3 installed. I cannot test any operating systems other than Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit as both my systems are now up to that level. regards, Peter
  11. Hi Robert, I'm using v7.5.3 and the spacebar acts as a play/pause toggle switch in the O&A window. F4 will show (toggle on/off) the contents of the Slide List in Fullscreen mode (same effect as clicking on the little triangle icon beside the Slides tab at the bottom of the main window). F3 will show (toggle on/off) the contents of the File List panel in fullscreen mode. regards, Peter
  12. Thanks, Barry! ...and thanks to everyone else who contributed to this investigation. Peter
  13. I can now re-create this problem consistently with a small test project thanks to the info in Xaver's post. I open an existing test project (called ABC.pte) - it happens to contain three images. I do File Save As XYZ. The project name on the PTE Title bar changes to XYZ. I insert a fourth image. I start to quit PTE by using the "X" button. I am warned that project XYZ has changed and given the chance to save it. I "Cancel" out of this situation back into the main PTE window. I do "Ctrl+Z" to undo the last action (i.e. remove the previously added fourth image). The image is removed. Again I start to quit PTE by using the "X" button. This time I am warned that project ABC has changed and given the chance to save it. At this point, the PTE Title bar still shows the correct project name of XYZ. I "Don't Save" and the PTE window closes. It seems to me that the Undo has undone not just the added fourth image but also the new project name of the File Save As. regards, Peter
  14. Brian, I never left PTE so I do not see the relevance of your explanation. I did the File Save As within PTE. That worked and the project name in the PTE Title bar changed accordingly. After performing the edits, when quitting PTE, the prompt to save the file used the old file name. I then overkeyed that old file name with one that I had given this project at the start of this session. I do not think PTE should have been using the old filename at that point. Geoff, I didn't say it would be easy to re-create - only that this has happened three times since the start of the v7.5 beta programme. In each case I had been doing the same sort of thing but not the same precise thing. The common features of all three instances are that the PTE session started with a File Save As and ended by quitting using the X button. Barry, I hate intermittent faults, too! Even some re-createable faults in v7.5 have gone AWOL on me before Igor has supplied his fix. Yachtsman1, Gary's problem reads as though it is associated with Autosave feature. I operate with Autosave turned off for the very reason that it simply overwrites the existing project file. I want to decide if/when I will overwrite the current project file - not have the computer take unilateral decisions. The computer does what I want - not the reverse! regards, Peter
  15. This problem happened to me twice during the v7.5 beta programme but I could not be sure it wasn't a user error. It happened to me again yesterday evening using v7.5.3 and this time I'm certain I did nothing wrong. I have not yet got a series of events that will guarantee to reproduce the problem but the general set of events has been the same each time it has happened to me. I have opened an existing sequence into PTE and done an immediate File Save As and given the file a new name (usually by adding a version number). I have then gone on to edit the project and, eventually, have quit PTE using the "red/white x" button at top right. I have intended to tell PTE to save the project and have spotted that the name is not as I was expecting. In the most recent case, I had opened "SkeltonChapel v9.pte" and done File Save As to "Test-Intro.pte". I was intending to try out a new idea for the start of the sequence but wanted to preserve the current state of the project in case I didn't like the new idea. The file name, as displayed on the Title bar of the PTE window, changed to "Test-Intro" as expected. I then proceeded to make the changes to the first few slides. These included changing the order of the first four slides, changing slide and transition durations, changing a transition type, adding a mask Container to one of the images (together with the mask and the inner image). I tried some animation on the mask and the inner image but abandoned that animation as I did not like the effect it gave. I did, however, keep a 3D transform on the mask (Circle) in order to deform it so it fitted over the circle in the main image (an architectural shot with significant converging verticals - and thus a distorted circle in the fabric of the building). Although I wasn't entirely happy with the result, I decided to keep this version of the project file to show to a friend with whom I am collaborating on this show. I exited PTE by using the "red/white X" button, intending to tell PTE to save the project file. The file name displayed in the pop-up window was not "Test-Intro.pte" - it was "SkeltonChapel v9.pte". If I hadn't spotted that I would have destroyed my good version of this project. I did spot it and changed the name to "Test-Intro.pte" so that it did overwrite the desired file. This problem has the potential to cause a lot of distress to a PTE user if they do not spot that the project name has reverted. They will end up with their original project overwritten by the new version - which may be radically different. I was fortunate in that, if I had not spotted the reversion on the name, I could have quickly re-instated the first four slides from an earlier version of the sequence (from v8 or v7). Another user may not be so lucky. If it happens again after I've taken fewer steps, I will try and re-create the problem. If there are any tests I can do, I'll be happy to oblige. regards, Peter
  16. Not just "could be said", it IS infringing their copyright unless clearance has been sought and given. regards, Peter
  17. Just to keep the record straight... I did not buy an iPhone. I bought a Samsung mobile phone. The decision was a strictly commercial one. I got a new phone - with an on-board camera - for the same price that I was paying for my old mobile phone service. I now always have a camera with me - even when I am not carrying my camera. I do not believe that I wear blinkers when considering what should or should not be developed on PTE. Yes, I have personal opinions - don't we all? But I think I can keep an open mind, too! I would love to see Igor and the team develop PTE for Mac, for Linux, for Android, etc. Like Jose (orizaba) I would like to see PTE be able to exploit 64-bit architecture now that this is becoming the norm for PCs. What I would not want to happen is that Igor succumbs to those who pressure him to turn PTE into an all-singing, all-dancing "jack of all trades" image editor, sound editor, video editor programme. "Jacks of all trades", as we well know, are masters of none! Now, back to your original post... What exactly do you mean by "reverse"? If I interpret you correctly, you mean the ability to trim the video clip without changing the file format. You would like PTE to decompress the video back to the original frames, apply your trim request, and then re-code the remaining frames using the same codec that had been used originally. Is that right? I think a trim without conversion could be a useful extra feature for those that want to try and contain the overall file size. I would have no need of it with my current equipment and working methods but that doesn't mean I'm against it for others. regards, Peter
  18. Why would I want to use anything off YouTube? I refuse to use copyrighted material without proper copyright clearance. Everything posted on YouTube is copyright of the author (and maybe even of a third party if the author has illegally copied something into their video). Neither will I use material of a technical quality that is inferior to that which I can produce using my own equipment. Most of what I have seen used from YouTube is of a very poor technical quality (i.e. low resolution). YouTube is not my scene. In many respects I'm a Luddite. I do not use YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr or any other so-called social media web services. As far as I am concerend they are the greatest timewasters ever devised. regards, Peter
  19. Yes, it inflates the file size; and for a very good reason. Video files are a bit like MP3 audio files in that they will always have been compressed but the amount of compression can vary from file to file depending upon which codec was used. PTE's converter code converts to a level of compression that will allow for that video to then be subject to 3D transforms, 2D pans, zooms, etc. without overtaxing the resources of the computer. That means having less compression applied and therefore having a much larger file size. When considering video file sizes it is a fallacy to believe that smaller is necessarily better. Smaller often means that you need a more powerful PC to handle that smaller file because it will take more processor power and memory to decompress the video back to its original constituent frames. Video files differ from MP3 files in that the codec should be restoring the original pixels as it does its decompression. With an MP3 audio file, once it has been compressed, any audio that was discarded during the compression has gone forever. regards, Peter
  20. Sorry for the delay. I confirm that the test version of 7.5.3 solves my problem. Peter
  21. I confirm that the test version solves these problems. Well done and thanks! Peter
