The problem is to be seen in v6, as well! So, I don't believe that it is related to the new duration model !?!? In the example, slide 4 is copy of slide 2. In slide 2, the key point times in the speed options window have absolute values, while in slide 4 these values are relative. Try to find out how I produced this example I guess that shifting slides will produce similar effects. Regards, Xaver OddKeyPoints.zip

Having in mind the recent discussion on the use of languages in this forum, my motivation for posting has suffered a little bit Nevertheless, there is an odd behavior in PTE 6 and 7. Consider a slide with an animated object. Copy this slide in the slide list. For the copy, open the O&A window. The key points in the O&A timeline will show correct times. But if look at the keypoint times in the speed options you will still see the old times, even if you save and reopen the project. In order to have updated keypoint times in the speed options, you may change (and re-change) the time of at least one keypoint. Regards, Xaver

You should not overstrain the English speaking majority in this forum using such an amount of foreign stuff Regards, Xaver

There are 4 forums in Austria/Germany: one for Wings Platinum, one for m.objects, one for AquaSoft, one for Magix. PTE does not have any platform in Austria/Germany, it is widely unknown. Nevertheless, isn't the German speaking market the biggest one inside the EU? We should finish this discussion. I think its WnSoft's job to make decisions. Regards, Xaver

This is not major question here! The corresponding companies present themselves in German, and people from Austria, Switzerland, and Germany do buy their products, that's it Anyway: m.objects is a rather expensive tool, perhaps more suited for professional use (shows with lots of projectors (digital and analogue)...); but many German amateurs make use of it, as well. The forum is German. Magix seems to be our market leader, regarding inexpensive tools. Their forum has the sections: Deutsch, English, Nederlands, Francais, Italiano, Espanol. Aquasoft (to some extend similar to PTE, offering better features for modelling shows than Magix) seems to be restricted to the German speaking market. Regards, Xaver

The situation is so easy to understand! I recommend PTE to a potential new German customer He visits the WnSoft homepage: It is English He has a look at the PTE forum: It is redistricted to English He asks for alternatives He buys m.objects or AquaSoft (or even Magix) Congratulations for this wonderful English forum. For me it is an excellent place for training my English. I like it, others do not! Regards, Xaver

Hi Lin, We should not go so far and ask for translation services of that kind. If someone poses a question in some language (say German), he/she cannot expect a support as it given under normal circumstances. But why not leaving the question as it is. There might be a few forum members who will understand the question, and who will be able to give an answer in the questioner's language. It would be quite easy for me to give short answers to German questions, in particular if I could do it in German, as well. But of course, I would not be willing to do the translation business. I do not see why a separate "international" forum section would reduce the strength of the forum as it is today. It could be regarded as an additional service. Best regards, Xaver PS: Going via the Google translator cannot be regarded as a serious procedure!

Just a question: Wouldn't it make sense to have a section in the PTE forum in which questions could be placed in other languages than English. I am pretty sure that such a section would of favor for the PTE sales in other countries, e.g. Germany. Regards, Xaver

(The said problem is well-known, and it has been discussed in detail in this forum; please use the forum search. A new program interface has been announced. Presently, as other users of PTE, I only make use of a single audio track, and I develop my soundtrack as an Audacity project.) Grüße/Regards Xaver

I don't have much experience in this subject. I've made a few simple experiments, and they worked well. What about making your own tests? Regards, Xaver

Obviously, this thread has been placed into the wrong section of this forum [it's OK now ] In order to control the audio part of a video, I would recommend to extract the video's audio track (e.g.using some free tool like XMedia Recode) and insert it as a sound comment into PTE, while running the video itself with muted audio. The sound comment's loudness can be controlled using the envelope function. Regards, Xaver

So do I Regards, Xaver

The layout shown above is not what I would like to see. Of course, it would be fine to see the timeline and thumbnails in parallel. But of course, the thumbnails should be shown within the corresponding time range. Just a word on parallel tracks. I hope that some time PTE will not only offer parallel audio tracks, but also parallel image tracks similar to Wings Platinum or m.objects. Regards, Xaver

Let us assume that we are in the middle of producing an AV sequence with carefully synchronized transition points. We look at our intermediate result. A particular transition seems to be too short. We open the Customize Slide dialogue, and we change the transition time. Now it depends on the view (Slides or Timeline) what is going to happen. In one case we have shifts of transition points (the synchronization has gone), in the other one we have not This is confusion by design! Regards, Xaver

Thank God, the fog has lifted! Regards, Xaver

Threads have been merged several times, only recently it happened to threads on the slide duration. This is an awful business! Merging threads destroys the flow of the conversation Regards, Xaver

I thought that it were clear from the context that my use of the word "feature" were to be regarded as ironic. On the other hand: We cannot talk about a bug. The program seems to work in a logical manner. You really cannot fulfill the following three requirements at the same time: New duration model, fixed durations, and no time shifts of transition points. This set of requirements includes a contradiction. If Igor wants to have the option for the new duration model in combination with fixed durations, we have to live with the time shifts. But we are lucky to have the option for our beloved old model. That's fine, isn't it? Regards, Xaver

Sorry, this is not a problem, it is a "feature" With the new definition of slide duration, and the requirement of keeping the duration fixed, this "feature" is a natural consequence. This has been obvious from the beginning (see post 4 above). You cannot have fixed transition points and fixed new durations at the same time The new duration model (I said this before) has its side effects that cannot be avoided. I would like to a agree with DaveG to "Remove the 'Keep Full Slide Duration' tickbox from the User Interface". This would have the advantage that we could untick it and neved look at it again! Regards, Xaver

Animations do not always behave well in the new duration model. If you place a key point precisely at the starting point of the next transition (the slide's end point in the old system), this key point will appear at the corresponding place after moving the slide. This will show some influence on the animation, if the outgoing transition times are different. In post 4 of this thread I have expressed my reservations against the new system, and I have not changed my mind, so far Regards, Xaver

- For a particular PTE project: Copy (not move) all media (images, sounds) from all folders containing the ones of your project to a single temporary new folder (no subfolders). - Copy your PTE project file to this new folder. - Open the copied project. PTE will find the lost media. - Use PTE's Zip-export in order to collect exactly the media that are needed by your project. - Delete the temporary folder. Regards, Xaver
-
You may have old projects, and it may make sense to edit them with the old version of PTE. Recommendation: If you open an old project with the new version of PTE, then save the project using a new name. If you overwrite the old project file with the new program version, you will run into trouble it you then want to open this project with the old program version. Regards, Xaver

I would regard Peter's suggestion (transitions with a locking mechanism) as a possible way, but I would regard it as complicated and (as we would call it in German) over-organized. Another way to go (which is free from unwanted side effects) would be (as suggested by Ken T and Daniel) a kind of separation of transitions and slides. Here, a possible disadvantage may arise: If you change the duration of a transition, you will cause a shift of all later transition points, or, you have an automatic change of the corresponding slide duration (this would bring us near to the old model). I am still fond of the old model that we had until version 6.x, and I like the remark of Jill K B from September 15 (post #91): "As I said earlier a Transition is linked to a slide, you Customise an individual slide to have the incoming transition that you want to achieve a particular effect on screen. The outgoing transition is nothing to do with that slide & neither should the time." Regards, Xaver

Take the Help Menu of the PTE Main Program! Regards, Xaver
-
Of course, it would be possible to make you happy! The obvious solution would be, that a change of the effect duration of slide n would no longer imply a change of the slide duration of slide n-1. As a consequence, a simple change of a single effect duration would cause a shift of (possibly lots of) transition points. I don't think that we would like this feature! Regards, Xaver
