Presently, it seems that we can only use True Type Fonts within PTE. It would be fine, if Open Type Fonts could be used, as well. Regards, Xaver

Perhaps, you should use the PNG option Regards, Xaver

Create the AVI with the Audio Codec "No Compression (PCM)". This will make the video a bit larger. If you are lucky, your TV will play it including audio! If not, use the free software "XMedia Recode" (www.xmedia-recode.de) in order to recode your AVI: For the video part choose "Video Copy", for the audio part choose "AC3" and appropriate other parameters (sample rate, bit rate). Take care of the filter tab and choose the correct resolution! I normally use the Picture To Exe Video Codec to obtain a "virtual" AVI, and then use Xvid in connection with VirtualDub. This gives me an AVI, and I apply XMedia Recode to obtain an Xvid-encoded video inside the MP4-container. My TV from Samsung likes MP4/Xvid videos (being a bit larger) much more than MP4/H264. Good luck! Regards, Xaver

A problem with the new concept may be, that the new durations of the slides do not sum up to the overall time of the show. Furthermore, it seems to me that a change of the transition time (effect duration time) of a particular slide will change its start time, and it will change the overall time of the show. In my shows, the start times of all slides are strictly synchronized to the rhythm of the music. So a change of some transition times should not spoil this arrangement. So it is good to read that the old concept will be maintained. Regards, Xaver

It is nice to see that you take this affair with an appropriate portion of humor! Of course, I can only speak for myself, and I must admit that I use my rather new TV almost exclusively for the presentation of my own work. So, my TV normally is turned off If you like it, I can grab another dozen of YouTube videos, and offer them for download in encapsulated form Regards, Xaver

There is plenty of rubbish in our (German) TV. We do not need it Regards, Xaver

Wouldn't it be easier, just to publish the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64yjmSk13VI Regards Xaver

The magic wand method is not a good one. It produces artefacts: There will appear opaque, grey pixels along the borders of the letters (assuming that the letters are black) which should be semi-transparent. Regards, Xaver

Using Beta10, I create an exe-file including a small video which runs perfectly: Video.exe. I create a project (Menu.pte) with an action on mouse click: Run slide show with return. Running the preview, I can start Video.exe on mouse click. Using Menu.exe, the mouse click leads to an access violation error, Win XP freezes. Regards, Xaver

The function "Save as" does not exist in Audacity. You can save audio projects, or you can export mixes of tracks, selections, or multiple tracks. Regards, Xaver

Use background music via Project Options, and activate the feature "Synchronize music and slides". Regards, Xaver

An observation with Beta7, but also with version 6.5.8: If I protect a show with a password and have a startup window, as well, then (in Preview and Exe) the password has to be entered twice Regards, Xaver

Sorry, but that's not my intention! All in all, I like your sequence. It tells me a (kind of) story, a visit of Leeds Castle. The order of the images is not random (as it seems to be in many other productions) but is (imo) deliberately chosen. The sequence shows us lot of good photos, but not all (several images show blown out highlights). In most cases, the synchronization is fine, the transitions follow the rhythm of the music, which not the normal situation for a show published in this forum. In the particular case of the sign for the Grotto the transition is too late (imo). There are a lot of fine dissolves, in particular with the birds. When the music becomes dramatic, you are in the Grotto, that's fine (imo). I like the identical animations at the start and at the end. You should take care for your animations which often stop abruptly. I am not sure that I am happy with all your animations but it would take too much time to analyze this subject in detail. Sorry, not a complete analysis, just a few remarks! You seem to use your brain when programming a sequence Best regards, Xaver

What do you expect from this forum? If you publish a sequence including nice or even great pictures, there will be several (or even more) responses of the type: "Love it", "Great pics", "Well done", and similar ones. Some people are lucky and obtain a few more responses that you got. But, what do you learn from feedback of that kind? It is my impression that those people who are in the position to judge on AV (not just on photography) typically do not post here. Furthermore, if you tell people the truth (whatever the notion of truth may mean) you will be regarded as arrogant (like Xaver ) Best regards, Xaver

An atmospheric slide show! The brush spoils the mood a little bit (imo), while the circular wave is fine. Using vocal music is always dangerous, if the images do not correspond to the lyrics, and there might be people in the audience who have particular memories with the song which might divert them from watching. I would spend a few minutes for aligning the images in order to avoid transitions between images of different formats, and to avoid the white line in the image with the sunset. Regards, Xaver

Sorry, but I am German, and I do not feel myself in the position to do so! Regards, Xaver

Please be so kind and tell me what you mean by "illiterate". Regards, Xaver

Very thin lines often cause problems: If they are constructed for (say) a screen with 1920x1200 pixels but watched at 1680x1050. It then often happens that the top or bottom part of the line is missing. For a general remark on white borders: See here. Regards, Xaver

Other observations (Beta 7): There seem to be update problems for liked videos, when going from slide to slide inside the A&O Window. When changing the video files for some video objects it happens that "old" video files (without any master) remain in the "Link to" list. See the attached screen shot: Only one linked video is included in this show, but PTE offers two videos to link to. Regards, Xaver

An observation with Beta 7: I build a show with 1 slide I add a video to slide 1 I make the video a Master Video Track I change the video's Start Time I start the Preview (not closing the A&O window), and the video starts at its very beginning not at the defined start time. If I click (several times) on the video object in the object list, the start time goes back to 0, with the consequence that it seems to be impossible to start the video at any later time. Regards, Xaver

All in all, I like your thoughts This is a point where I do not agree. It may not be your intention, but I think that you do it! And, there is another techie who invites everybody to "discover his AV experience" and who sells some stuff for "reasonable prices" Best regards, Xaver
-
Indeed, there are a few senior members of the said kind (singing praises all the time) who mainly concentrate on technical aspects, and who make people believe that programming rotating cubes and other technical stuff were the high art of AV, which certainly is not the case. The UK seems to have a strong AV scene, and most of its members use PTE (which is not the case in the German language area). But these people do not seem to give a significant input to this forum Regards, Xaver

Sorry, but I think that there are two sides of the same coin. If you only obtain praise (more or less), as it seems to be usual in this forum, you will never improve. If (for example) your synchronization is bad, why not be happy to have someone who tells you. Let me recommend to go the hard way Regards, Xaver

A nice sequence! I like it, in particular the remarks on "false praise", as this is what you often get in this forum Regards, Xaver

The sides of a pyramid are triangles, which are not supported by PTE. Of course you may use rectangles part of which are transparent, but I would not like to do such a job. Perhaps it might be better to go for a 3D graphics application like Blender Regards, Xaver
