    Why ?

What you suspect does not seem to be true. Please forgive me if I regard myself as an experienced user, and I really do not have any problems with the business of separating key points. But I have really made the experience that it is the novice who runs into trouble with the present default settings. Furthermore, you should not compare views and votes. I'm pretty sure that each contributor to this thread will produce a lot of views. So, the disproportion that you pretend to see may not exist. Regards, Xaver

    Why ?

Jean-Cyprien, you really mention a crucial point! Only recently I gave a PTE seminar and the participants made exactly the experience that you describe. And even if you separate the key points, close the speed options window, and then press the Smooth button, the key points will be glued again. All in all, very confusing for newcomers! Regards, Xaver PS: I (another citizen of the European mainland ) gave my vote for "YES"
  3. Yes, it is true, there are these sound features. But do you really recommend to use them without an appropriate user interface that has been announced, first for version 7.0, then for some later version of PTE? Regards, Xaver
  4. Audio Basics: Indeed, the present audio concept of PTE is (to some extent) confusing. I would consider it as outdated. Adding sound via "Customize Slide" is (in most cases) not a good idea. Adding sound via "Project Options" is meant for introducing music, while the "Add Sound" function at the top of the main screen is meant for inserting sounds and commentary. My recommendation: Build up your complete soundtrack in (e.g.) Audacity and insert it via the Project Options. By the way, a new audio concept for PTE is under construction. Regards, Xaver
  5. Copying Slides: The important thing is that you must not work with two instances of PTE. Follow Peter's instructions carefully! Regards, Xaver
  6. From the PS manual: The Batch command runs an action on a folder of files. Which action do you propose? Regards, Xaver
  7. If I remember it correctly, you can do the renaming in Adobe Bridge (not in Photoshop). Regards, Xaver
  8. Mick, You may install "x264vfw" (http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/) on your system, which allows you to create AVI-files containing H.264 videos. Remark: The AVI container is not as good as the MP4 container for this kind of videos! Regards, Xaver
  9. Oh Daniel, You make me feel sad. Your aversion to Xaver seems to make you loose the ability to judge. Nevertheless, Xaver seems to like you Best regards, Xaver
  10. Daniel, You are right, and this is not typical for me. On the other hand, people who call me "lèche-bottes" are poor fellows in my eyes, sorry for that. By the way, as a German, I do not think that this behavior (calling others "lèche-bottes") is typical for our French neighbors. Best regards Xaver
  11. Daniel, You should not say "always", but "sometimes" should be OK. Only recently, a friend of mine, a photographer and photo journalist, told me: "Throughout my life, I have only learned from critique, never from praise and adulation." Is the slideshow section of the forum just for adulation? In this case I would consider it as useless, and I would stop to take any part in it. This is not the first time that this question has shown up, e.g. see here! Best regards Xaver
  12. Hi Lin! Shuffle the slides of the said presentation. I'll bet, you will not notice it. This seems to be a rhetorical question, isn't it? I do not think that this will rise the attractiveness of "Abstract Beauty". The shortcomings of the presentation's story will remain the same; but the author may give it a try It is nice to see you back in this forum! Best regards Xaver
  13. Mick, As you see, this is not the first time that this poor fellow (user d67) conducts an attack against Xaver. But I can assure you that Xaver does not care about it. Best regards Xaver
  14. A randomly chosen sequence of images of young women in typical poses with a musical background imperfectly synchronized. Maybe a nice presentation for people who like to see undressed female humans. Stopped it before it reached the final slide Regards, Xaver
  15. Jose, A perhaps easier way to recode your videos may be given by using the program "XMedia Recode" or even better "XMedia Recode Portable (no installation)". You can choose a configuration where the video part remains unchanged, while the audio part is recoded to MP3. Regards, Xaver
  16. Hello all (und ein freundliches "Grüß Gott" aus Bayern nach Nordrhein-Westfalen), I made my experience with 1920x1080p60/50 with the internal media player of my Samsung TV (LE40B650): It did not work, as I think, because of lack of decoding performance. The TV's manual says that the player has been optimized for p24. And what about the Western Digital Media Players: The specifications say that only Full HD videos with i30 or p24 are supported. 1920x1080p60 would be fine, but it seems that a lot of players do not support it. Nevertheless, I am not unhappy with my 1920x1080p24 videos, although I have to admit that fast pans are a bit jerky Regards, Xaver Munich
  17. Igor, Will it be possible to have video objects as masks? Regards, Xaver
  18. Present your sequence via YouTube, or use the protection measures in Project Options > Advanced (not really secure). Regards, Xaver
  19. Malcolm, I think that the importance of this point depends on the persons who watch your show. For people who have a strong perception of rhythm of the music this aspect will be more important. They will feel the difference, at least subconsciously. The shorter the transition time, the more important is (in my eyes) the position relative to the music. In case of a transition that lasts 5 seconds, you need not care for for this point. Regards, Xaver
  20. Malcolm, As I said before (after seeing the first version of your show) a very impressive, wonderful collection of images. In my opinion, it is fine that you now avoid the template used in the first version. Just a remark on the synchronization: The time points for the transitions seem to chosen without listening to the music. The music has a 4 beat measure, and I would synchronize the transitions according to the first beat in the bar. Best regards, Xaver
  21. Not a good idea for having fun! With crabby regards (whatever this may mean, I don't know), Xaver
  22. Barry, Do you think that your work (though it hovers above most productions to be seen in this forum) is free from technical flaws or design flaws? If not, let me analyze it. You do not learn from praise and adulation. By the way, people in the AV group that I manage (though I am, as you say, missing the point of AV completely ) like your productions, and we normally watch them as one piece of work, but in some cases .... Best regards, Xaver
  23. Barry, I can assure you that I do know how to watch an AV show. But in case where I want to throw an analytical eye on it, it is an advantage to have KB control, in oder to watch particular sections repeatedly. Regards, Xaver
  24. The black line is to be seen in the slide list of the main window (not in the light box), in case when you shift a particular slide with the mouse. In the light box you cannot arrange the order of your slides, you can only choose images (from some folder) in order to add them to your show. Regards, Xaver PS: This is not the right section of the forum for questions on the use of the software!
  25. Barry, Here are some remarks on your latest production: The photography is excellent, as usual. I would not complain about the piano, but of course, there might be a better choice for the music. In the beginning, there is at least one animation that stops abruptly. On my screen, there are some problems with shimmering. It is fine to have sounds, but not in all places: I do not like to hear the sound of physical processes (here: running water) while the corresponding images are still. In order to study a sequence in more detail, it would prefer to have KB control. Regards, Xaver
