  1. I have some doubts that the maintenance of two program versions would be of favor for WnSoft On the other hand, a revised version of the Project Options would be a good choice. We should keep in mind that the user interface is going to be changed (e.g. an integration of audio tracks into the Main Window has been announced, while I myself hope for the feature to have objects that live across several slides). The revisions of the Project Options and of the Main Window should go hand in hand Regards, Xaver
  2. I agree, this is a correct view of the current situation. We can continue with this description by noticing that all slides (i.e. containers for images and other objects) map to a particular area on the screen in which the show runs, a kind of window. This area is either defined by the aspect ratio or by a fixed pixel dimension. Looking at the Screen tab in the Project Options, this area seems to be called "slide", as well. So this term seems to have multiple meanings. In my opinion, it is the said screen area that will be covered, not the object container itself (both named "slide"). In the parent/child situation the expression "Cover slide" is to be regarded as imprecise, as mentioned above. Thus, following the French or the German translation would be a way that I would like to prefer Regards, Xaver
  3. This proposal sounds quite nice, at least for the English user interface. It might cause trouble for other languages. In the German UI slides do not exist. For slides and images, the same word is currently used (the German word for image). See also my post #10. Regards, Xaver
  4. In principle, you are right, and this proposal instantaneously came into my mind when I noticed this discussion. On the other hand, I have the impression that only a minority of the PTE users have really grasped the parent/child concept. I fear that for the other users "Cover parent" would not be an appropriate term Regards, Xaver
  5. Congratulations, Cor. Now the Belgians and the Dutch are ahead of us In the German version we still seem to have the same term for "Slide" and "Image". I pointed out this this drawback several times (posts, PMs, e-mails), but the German translator seems to have a lack of understanding Best regards, Xaver
  6. I myself like to keep things simple, but simplicity is not a value in its own. So, I have to say that Bruno's remark coincides with my position in this subject. "Cover Format" and "Fit (in)to Format" would be a choice that I could vote for! In the German translation (which I do not like in all positions) we have the terms "Einpassen" and "Überdecken", just "Fitting" and "Covering", without saying into what the new object is to fit, or what is to be covered (which should be clear from the context). I would regard this as an alternative. Being a bit vague seems to be better than doing it the wrong way! Another alternative: Leave things as they are (Cover slide, ...) as proposed by Dave (davegee) and Cor (CorVdK), although I must admit that I do not like it. It does not suit well in the parent/child situation. Regards, Xaver
  7. Did you try XMedia Recode (www.xmedia-recode.de) ? I myself use the portable version (no installation needed). Regards, Xaver

  9. Has there been an answer to this question? Regards, Xaver
  10. The problem seems to have vanished in Beta2 and Beta3, I don't know why, perhaps my keyboard? Regards, Xaver
  11. This is my point of view, as well Regards, Xaver
  12. Sorry, not for me: "Del" gives me "Cut transition", but "Shift+Del" does not work (Win XP SP3, v7.0 b2). Regards, Xaver
  13. This is how it works in the Slides Mode (on my system) Regards, Xaver
  14. How does the insertion of blank slides work on my system: It splits the time of the highlighted slide according to the position of the blue cursor. On the left side, the given slide is shown, on the right side the blank slide occurs. Regards, Xaver
  15. In the timeline mode, the delete key works like the cut transition button (as in version 6), while shift+delete is to be used for removing slides (but this does not seem to work in 7 beta2). Regards, Xaver
  16. I think that there is no need for any further comment on the images. So let me offer two recommendations regarding other aspects: You could improve the positive impact by taking more care on the synchronization. Let the transitions follow the rhythmic and melodic structure of the music. Get rid of the white border. Follow the recommendations of Maureen Albright (see here). Regards, Xaver
  17. Hi Jean-Cyprien, It really is a fine trick to place keypoints outside of slides, and spanning animations across several slides. On the other hand, if you extend an animation of an object across ten slides, you have to insert this object ten times and you have to adjust the keypoints ten times. The method works well. Nevertheless, it can only be regarded as a workaround. My friends using Wings will show a smile Best regards, Xaver
  18. I don't like this button either! Another remark: What has happened to the option "Anti-Shimmering" ? Regards, Xaver
  19. Dan, Looking at your screen shot: The Nvidia GeForce FX Series (GeForce 5) has been released about 8 years ago, and the 5200 has entry level with 128 MB video RAM. You cannot expect an appropriate performance from this system. Regards, Xaver
  20. Brian, A few remarks on your post: You recommend not to use a condenser microphone, but the Samson C03U that you mention actually is one. If you do not use it outside, then (in my opinion) a condenser microphone should be a good choice. I don't see an advantage in the configuration that you propose (microphone with XLR-connector, XLR ~ 3mm adapter, and a separate external A/D converter (Griffin iMIC)). Why not using a microphone that already includes the converter (e.g. AKG Perception 120 USB, Samson C03U) which plugs directly into the USB port of the PC. Regards, Xaver
  21. I agree with Eric (Yachtsman1) that a studio microphone is not well suited for outside recording. I myself do not need it. In my opinion, outside recording is overestimated by many people. When working with still images, sound effects (representing motion) often do not work well. Outside recording itself is not easy because of all the noise around. It is often easier to search the Internet for particular sound effects (e.g. www.findsounds.com) or buy a sound CD. Regards, Xaver
  22. Paul, let me tell you that noise isn't an issue when using the Samson C03U. I use it (in connection with a pop filter) with the super cardioid pattern at a distance of about 10 inches (avoiding a strong proximity effect). There will be better (and much more expensive) microphones, but for voice over the quality oft the C03U is much more than sufficient. When recording I use an old notebook which does not produce any noise, and the super cardioid pattern helps to reduce other ambient noise. You may try to make your voice recording in the bedroom, placing the microphone inside the open wardrobe to avoid reverberation. Regards, Xaver
  23. Just a few words to help our English forum users. "Beamer" is an English word, which in several countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Germany, ...) is (colloquially) used for the word "projector". People in Continental Europe sometimes seem to like English words even if the are wrong. Crazy, isn't it Regards, Xaver
  24. It may be a sequence with (almost empty) slides, each of which uses the function "Run external application" from the Customize Slide Menu. The external applications can be slide shows (exe-files). So, you just run the start sequence in order to start the said shows. Regards, Xaver
  25. Let me recommend to use a USB-microphone (e.g. Samson C03U, which works well for me) in combination with a pop filter. You record directly into Audacity or any other audio editor, you are independent of the PC's sound card, you do not need a pre amp, you have a nice workflow, the quality should be OK. Keep in mind that you are about to record voice-over and not Anna Netrebko. Regards, Xaver
