Andrew, Another great AV. It would have been easy to overcook effects. You got it spot on. The different image sizes, placement and structure worked well. Music choice was spot on too. An added bonus was the storyline with the Apprentice's Pillar.Very interesting. If I had to change anything it would be the opening pages with text. Starts off as Red text and then to black which sort of overlaps as it fades in/out. For the Storyline text maybe a nice aged scroll, with a slow pan towards the text at the bottom of the page. Seen this clip from the 'Scotsman on Sunday. Very interesting. Well done, Davy

HD Slideshows: Burning your mp4 files to disk
coopernatural replied to Carol Steele's topic in General Discussion
Gary, Something screwy going on. Might not do any harm to update all firmware, software, driver updates for your PC. Disable firewall,Anti-virus and programs like Anydvd. If still no joy try the files that have been output as MP4 on another machine. Might help to point to the problem.Might be a corrupt file. Davy -
HD Slideshows: Burning your mp4 files to disk

Hi Carol, Thanks for your efforts with the beta testing. It's appreciated, along with your advice. The SoThink software looks simple yet capable. Are you able to create a menu with it? If so,is this a fairly easy thing,or is it a fairly involved process? Davy -
Eric, Burn the original with your laptop. Put that into the duplicator with a blank cd/dvd Voila. If you go bigtime you can have a big duplicator 9 discs at a time. Thats why I keep an old PC stripped out PC with 2dvd drives. It's a hotrod copier. It lets me work on the current PC without interrupting things. Davy

Eric, If you are going to be doing much burning. http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=DR-AC1T1N Others available from Amazon for around £100 for single duplication. Frees up the laptop.Stand alone. No PC connection needed. Davy

Ronnie, Lin gets my vote.A top bloke. Would like to hear of your disk burning with nero when you can. There are quite a few who use it. Davy -

Hi Ronnie, I am getting the MultiAVCHD program to work fine.I have it set up with IMG Burn to output discs. If you have Nero and it's working for you,no need to tinker with this program. For someone wanting to try before buying a software I would try MultiAVCHD. There may be some differences in quality of the final output between Nero and MultiAVCHD. Not all software is created equal.Nero/Roxio tend to be bloatware, doing lots of things, just not very well. For Gary.here is a link to the Video help forum http://www.videohelp.com/tools/multiAVCHD#usercomments A lot of clever types here. I noticed in the user comments that a guy there is getting discs burned ok on his JVC player. It may well be some box ticked or unticked in the settings.I am no expert on this program, but I didn't need any updates or additional software for it to work. Maybe we can coax Lin to have a look into this. Davy -
Hi Mark, Bill is a Mac user.In 'Create' just make an Executable for Mac (as well as the PC Exe).It will make a zipped folder. When posting AVs now, most people provide a PC and Mac option from the download link. The widescreen treatment works well with the Yellowstone AV. Davy

Hi Carol, Have run a scan, but it's all clean.I have only downloaded multiAVCHD so far from the link I posted earlier. Not sure where the malware has came from, but keep us posted. Good news though about the new lower bit rate burn. Davy -

Great stuff Carol, I too tried out a maxed out AV.Sound was fine but the odd artifect crept in to a few slides. While playing back the disc I checked the bitrate. It reached 50mbs! in places. No wonder it was throwing up the odd artifect. The PDF files will be very helpful to those wanting to dip in their toes. You lead the way and I will follow. Davy -

Hi Carol, Might be worth a tinker with the software even if it can't produce a polished production as with Pinnacle. The sound breakup,I'm not sure about. It could be the bit rate setting. Will have a look at Avisynth. I downloaded and printed your full PTE/Pinnacle guide. Thanks again for that. I do hope in a day or so,you will be volunteered to produce the 'Freebie software guide to AVCHD'. Davy -

A bit of success burning a dvdr disc with freebie only software in AVCHD 1920x1080. Using the MP4 file from PTE, the MultiAVCHD software I linked to earlier and the best bit of burning software on the planet,ImgBurn. It was just a single AV with no menu created. The AV was one I had trouble with before while using the Ulead software. No skipping or jumping with the disc.Played on the PS3,but it should be compatible with almost any Bluray player. I will have another go with a higher quality AV source, but this is turning interesting. Davy -

Hi Carol, (Yes I always got your spelling right) I was hoping we could coax you to do a walkthrough of your process. Had a nosey at your web site.Impressive.Well done with that and your Gym work/weight loss. All I can say is 'Triple chocolate Black Forest Gateau' If reading your guide helps me miss 'Wheelchairs on Ice' or whatever nonsense BBC and ITV can come up with,I will be pleased semi-intelligible or not. I hope you did not take my reference to the 'Google Experts' as meaning you. Experts are often declared as such by themselves.Failing that, praise comes from the partially sighted. Of course they are not experts at all. A blind man can see that. Keep up the good work. Regards, Davy -

Bluray quality on DVD. Im a convert now
coopernatural replied to coopernatural's topic in General Discussion
Hi Ronnie, I was using a fairly old bit of software which couldn't open the MP4 file,so I just worked with the AVI file. There are free softwares available to get the job done, and with better results, but they often have to be used in conjunction with other free software.Fine once you read through the blurb. I had used Ulead Videostudio 11 (Ulead is now owned by Corel)It can still be got on a well known auction site, but I would recommend a trial version with something a bit more up to date, like the new Corel Videostudio pro x3 or Pinnacle 14 that Carol uses. I have Adobe Encore as well, but it can be buggy. I went to my workshop today which has an AV room.Put the dvd disc I had burned as AVCHD into a Sony Bluray player (Not a Playstation 3) and it played back perfectly through a HD widescreen projector (showed as 1080I not 1080P). Clear as a bell and lots of detail. The PS3 is mistaken as just being a video games machine. It will upsample normal Dvds to produce a better picture and do the same for Photos as well. I was able to save a few AVs on it's hardrive last night in both AVI and MP4 and played well in 1920x1080.I just used a pen drive from the PC to transfer them. Good to hear comments and tips from everyone. Davy -

Ronnie, The more the merrier. That is the real value of a forum. There is a 30 day free trial of Corel Videostudio Pro X3 which can be downloaded. It will be released for purchase later in the month. Might be worth a tinker as it seems to make the most of multi-core machines. Lets see if we can all learn (without the preachy Google Experts) Davy -
Bluray quality on DVD. Im a convert now
coopernatural replied to coopernatural's topic in General Discussion
Hi Mary, There may well be existing guides on this and from what I can gather, some who have been there done that. Maybe someone will volunteer their knowledge/experience. Getting something to work for everybody might be a challenge.Just so many variables involved. Things are constantly changing with new software, fimware updates etc. Protections have been put in place by manufacturers to protect their interests. They had to leave the back window open with AVCHD for Video/Camcorder users. We are just exploiting that. I like the idea of being able to put a disc in a player for family/friends to view on a TV,rather than have them huddle around a computer monitor. I will report back when/if I make some headway. Help from 'Been there Done that' PTE users is welcome. Davy -

Hi Carol, I think I was more suprised that it worked first time. The usual for me is to be greeted with a blank screen. It turned out that I got lucky with the first attempt,as I burned another couple of AVs and got hit with the flickering screen on playback. Still,it will keep me out of trouble for a day or so, as I do some tweaking and hopefully learn something in the process. The Bluray burning option is always there too. Davy -
All, Am fairly gobsmacked after making a first AV for replay through a Sony PS3 with a standard dvdr disc burned as AVCHD. Filled my 50" HD Plasma screen.Sharp as a pin,no flicker.Stunning, yes Stunning. Compared to the standard dvd output,no comparison. Cheapo software used for the AVCHD burning(£12) OK still early days as it's my first time at this.It is playing on a Sony PS3 and will try it out on a standard Bluray player and have a go with making menus etc, but if this works I will be well pleased.I will fire up the HD projector as well tomorrow as a tester. Ken, My bad. Meant I hadn't heard of 'Over The Rhine'. Their sound was like a blend of Norah Jones and Sheryl Crow. Sheryl Crow.Davy

Hi Don, Yes I had a look thanks.Sounds like Norah Jones meets Sheryl Crowe. Never heard of them either. Davy

Hi Mark, The monitor is a HP LP2475w.1900x1200. An IPS type,as opposed to the more common TN panels. It's not quite an Eizo, but it's pretty decent. It's a wide gamut type,so more suited to output for print. If it is soley for web work, then an SRGB monitor would be more suitable for your friend. I do plan getting out more.Well,as soon as my shift is over at the mill. Thanks for the comments. Davy

Hi Dan, I enjoyed that. A large download, long duration and family album viewing.Thats on par with being stuck in a lift with an insurance salesman for me. I was wrong. What made it work ,was breaking it up into bite sized mini-AVs. The work on the soundtrack was great as well. Now at the end there was the push escape button to exit.I was happy just listening to the last track and it cut out. Not even a fade out. I'm deducting a few points for that. Well done Davy
