Hi Bill, Glad it worked for you and you thought it worth the download. The Corrie Ten Boom story I didn't know of,but I do know of another Ravensbruck inmate and that was Odette Sansom. There was an excellent film made in 1950 called 'Odette'. Based on her life story. Davy

Thanks Mark. Wars have been occurring from the year dot, on a regular basis. There will always be wars. The AV was made to accompany some class studies of war and the enormous suffering that goes with it. The story of Anne Frank is one that children can easily relate to and hopefully one that puts them off the idea of going to war. Davy

Bill, Mac verson here. http://tinyurl.com/yf75chq Davy

Hi Anthony, Thanks for watching and the feedback. It is sometimes hard to know how others will feel about an AV and that you found it moving, means that it worked,in that it had that effect. I resisted using photoshop too much to do a cleanup of the photos. The Antivirus clean bill of health is also good to know. Thanks for that also. Davy

Hi TonyC, Thanks for watching and your comments. We only think we have it tough. We are indeed fortunate. All the best to you too. Davy

Daniel, Thanks for downloading the AV and your comments. The show is simple and I think it works better for that. I am reminded of the latin phrase,'Delapsus Resurgam', (when I fall I shall rise). Davy

Hi Maureen, Thanks for the comments.I think with each passing generation,so much is lost. That their experiences and memories are not passed on is a shame. The subject matter, even if not a comfortable one,is well worth telling. Davy

Hi Ken, Have reuploaded and ammended the original url http://www.mediafire.com/?uzjim2g1fdl Would it be an idea for the sake of those uncertain of downloading an AV, that shows posted could be screened by a mod for a clean bill of health until this false positive reporting by new Anti-virus programmes is sorted? Davy
-
Hi Ken, Yes I just noticed.I had did a trial download to check and all worked fine. Mediafire does play up some times,so will reupload and update the url. in a few minutes Davy

All, I have put together a short AV on Anne Frank. Originally for a school project, it contains a mix of photos and illustrations of Anne Frank, The secret annex, and Concentration camps. There is no graphic content, but download only if you think it suitable viewing. Mediafire http://www.mediafire.com/?uzjim2g1fdl PC version http://tinyurl.com/yf75chq Mac version Anne Frank As reported earlier, some newly updated anti-virus programmes will now see these PTE exe files as a potential threat.I have scanned files in creation, upload and download. Everything is fine. Davy

Bill, Thanks for being the Mac Tester. There is a move towards 16:9 1920x1080 monitors, with HD films produced that way,and that is why I do things at this ratio/resolution. I have a 1920x1200 monitor myself and that is closer to the output of my camera.Just have to remember to leave a bit of headroom now when taking shots for the 16:9 AVs. Don, What an easy and enjoyable way to lose a few hours playing with PTE.I like to try new things and learn a bit at the same time. The AV is different from the norm and nothing serious, but glad you liked it and the relax music. Thanks for the comments. Mark, I thought it would have been too easy for this clever lot,but I suppose that's only because I know the answer. Maureen's excellent AV was 'Autumn Days In The Lakes'.'Roslyn' is one of my best Avs to date. I suppose I should tell people that Andrew helped me with it Davy

Ken, Yes I can see what you mean and not unlike some electron microscope images as well. I wouldn't mind seeing a Ken Cox brain scan.More than a few terabytes of stuff in there. Probably enough to smoke several super computers. Davy

All, By way of a little fun/experiment I used images from Mark’s excellent Antelope slot canyon AV to make something a little different. Playing both of them at our camera club to see if anybody would catch on. I was asked was it ice, water, and even fishing nets. Nobody guessed right, which surprised me. As per mark’s notes. Nikon D300 hand held, 1/15th sec, iso 3200, 18-200mm VR lens, Capture NX2. All I did was crop, rotate, apply filtering in CS3 and use different background music. Music is not of the highest quality, but it does the job. Uploaded to Mediafire PC Version http://tinyurl.com/yeavrax Mac Version http://tinyurl.com/yby38od In the description I have simply put PG as per cinema ratings. The next up would be a 15 rating for content suitable for that age group.Last would be 18 for adult audience. I don't see the point of suggesting a target audience. Feedback, positive, negative, constructive, honest or diplomatic I don't mind. Davy
-
Andrew, This might temper your happiness a bit. I had explained the background to Rosyln and why photography had been banned. Some people approached me assuming that it was my AV. "Great AV Davy"."Yes,I thought so too" was my reply. My bad Davy

Hi Mark, I like these Surreal forms sculpted by nature. Looks like a really cool place. If you are going to bring a tripod next time, don't forget to bring a camera as well Music and images combined well. Great stuff. Davy

Hi Maureen, Are you sure that Mac link is Mac files? I was able to download from it and it ran on a PC. The music will no doubt,be out of the comfort zone for some.I think it gives a contempory feel and it works for me. Images are as good as ever. A really good show.Another keeper for the collection. Well done, Davy

Ron, Excellent guide. No bulk filler,no waffle. If only all guides were made this way. Well done. Davy -
Ken, I have noticed that with some interviews. There must be a lot of voice coaching going on.Maybe a bit of vocal training would work for us. It would be possible to view the change of vocals in an audio editor like Audacity. Here is a simple Speech prompt tool http://tinyurl.com/y8n3lk9 Not sure if it will change grumpy old men into grumpy old women. Will just have to wait on Eric gets back to us 'Henry Higgins',is of course the Professor of Phonetics in Pygmalion. Of course Voiceovers can tear families apart http://tinyurl.com/yfskjnb Davy

Hi Andrew, Ok let’s say... I avoid PC world, and buy a decent voiceover mic. I get some quality mic cable and connectors. I rip out that Soundblaster audio card and replace it with a proper soundcard/interface. I tweak the computer settings to work better for the interface. I get some ‘proper’ software to apply some eq, compression, effects etc. I acoustically treat the recording environment. I carefully align, rotate, and work with mike placement and perfect my mike technique. I avoid the misinformed mumbo jumbo put forward in Forums and Amazon ‘How To’ books. I seek out instead, the advice of an experienced sound recording engineer. I attend the ‘Henry Higgins’ School of Elocution for 6 months. Now would I do my own Voiceover for my AV? Not a chance. I don’t have the dulcet and silky toned voice of a Radio 2 presenter. No amount of work can change that. I would rather listen to that dated, insipid and awful, royalty free musak rubbish, than do a Voiceover. If I really wanted a Voiceover,I would ask a friend with a nice sounding voiceover kind of voice. It would be the best sounding Voiceover AV ever.Even to those who seem to have their ears painted on. Eric, A computer component shopping list is something that keeps for about a week. Prices/specs change as quickly as that. There are bargains to be had with graphics cards when they have been knocked off the perch,by the next latest and greatest. It's a bit like the pop charts. If the builder is a friend/small shop trader he may not be able to ensure compatibility with all the various components. Not that it won't work, but there can be problems. The larger builders like Overclockers will have greater experience with what works well and what dosen't. They have a good tech department to answer questions on components or possible combinations,as well as a forum. Worth having a look at the weekly special offers as well. Get the most for your money, but keep the shopping list up to date. Davy
-
Eric, Have a look at Overclockers for graphics cards http://tinyurl.com/yfrobwn You will probably get something a bit better specced for your money. The one you asked Lin about was around the £70 mark. The memory and core clock are rough indicators of Horse Power. As long as it's compatible with your mobo get the best spec that you can. Might only be £10-£30 difference in getting something a bit more up to date but with more grunt. Davy

Hi Eric, I wouldn't recommend a new build with XP 64bit even though it will run your hardware/Nx2 software etc.A manufacturer will claim something has not been tested or is not supported in 64 bit is not the same thing that it won't work. It's just a get out of jail free card for them. The world in 4:3 is years of conditioning to early TV.It's a comfort zone, but it's not as we see things. A 16:10 display will be closer to your Nikon's 3:2 output,(surely you don't crop the ends of 6x4 pics from your Nikon). Not just as big a shock as 16:9 that you will initially hate even more.Tvs etc may well go through a 3D change, but a 4:3 is never going to happen. The cube looks mean.Course that widescreen display spoils it.Is there an option for 4:3 on it? Good luck with the build. Davy

Eric, I may not have read/absorbed all answers so don't get grumpy. Just check components for physical size.Power supplies and graphics cards can be larger than the norm. For a power supply get one with modular wiring. This will help with the fit and do away with all the unnecessary spagetti that reduces cooling airflow. Have been an XP Pro 64 bit user for sometime.(Yes I got to miss out on all the fun people had with Vista). I have had no issues with 32bit programs. All the ones that I use work fine. For some apps like my Digital Audio Workstation the 64bit helps with the number crunching. The extra ram comes in handy. Not sure I have seen a mobo that has the physical capacity for 128gig of ram though. Problem will new operating systems is they aren't really fixed for about 1 year in.This is when feedback and complaints from the beta testers disguised as customers get through to be sorted by the techies. Win7 is no different.Of course they will be pushing 64 bit versions because of more money. Certain software applications have started to make use of 64 bit.Video/audio etc. 5 years is an awful long time especially in computing terms.Never know what lies around the corner. For a monitor I would look at a 16:10 ratio.Thats closer to the 3:2 of your camera than a 4:3 I think you were looking at before. For displaying shows on a projector, would it be possible to do away with a PC on some occasions by using a hardrive based media player with a remote control? Davy

Hi Joanne, There is a free 'cut down' version of Nero 9,just for burning cds/dvds http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero9-free.php I think it installs a toolbar which isn't removable,so that may put you off. There are loads of alternative free software burning applications. You can have a look on Softpedia and Cnets. There will be a rating and list of what each one can do for your purpose. You could checkout CDBurnerxp Infra Recorder Burrrn IMGBurn A nice little app for transferring files from cd to your hardrive in wav or converted to mp3 is CDex. Check for updates on these type of freebie programs for best results. Davy

Daniel, Another fine AV. Music created a nice summer atmosphere and it made for an enjoyable and entertaining show. The PDF file with information is a good idea. I also had a look at your webpage and am impressed with the AVs you have there. Well done again. Davy
