  1. Hello all, Could someone please help me. I am using 6.5 Beta 8. I want to add subtitles to selected slides. I made a black slide and added text in white. Saved it as text.png. In O&A I added a Mask container with text.png in the mask, at the top of the stack of other images that fade in and out during the duration of the slide. These other images are not in the Mask container. With "Play" in O&A the text shows up perfectly (white) and everything looks OK. Close O&A and the text has vanished when I do a "Preview". Odd? Thanks a lot, Jeff
  2. Hello all, Yes, a useful suggestion. One way to implement it would be to add to the time-limit option, allowing for override with a password. (You can always reset the computer's clock too.) On the other hand, Igor is busy with such wonderful improvements at the moment that I would not like to see him distracted too much. Regards, Jeff
  3. OK, our main undersea cable to the rest of the World was down yesterday. Explains the frustration I had. Got through to Facebook today and 'joined'. Regards, Jwdd
  4. Is that a good link? I get a blank page. Jeff Edited: Maybe a problem with Facebook - I can't get to any group that I want to visit)
  5. Thanks, Trailer, I did a search within the WnSoft forums for 'Facebook' and found no posts. Regards, Jeff
  6. What about a link on Facebook? Do you think it can be worthwhile? Regards, Jeff
  7. The competition is organised by GAPHE (Group of Amateur Photographers from Hayange and surrounding region) with the specific aim of spreading the knowledge of AVs (Diaporamas) as a creative photographic discipline. (follow the Union Jack symbol to get to the English version of the rules.) Entries close 17th September 2010 Website www.festivaldiaporamahayange.com/rules.html DEFINITION AVs are a comparatively new photographic genre which closely combines still images with sound and sometimes with text. The type of transition between images is left to the author’s choice, but these must be integrated harmoniously. The author can express an idea, describe a memory, tell a story or illustrate a song .... there is no restriction on the topic. The author is completely free to choose. TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS * The computer generated entries in our festival may be created by using various types of software (eg. Pictures to Exe. Wings Platinum, M-Objects, Flash, Pro-Show, Magic Lantern, etc.) in order to produce an auto-executable file. The organisers will accept productions using other software provided that a pre-supplied sample will prove that they are able to read these files. * We recommend formatting AVs with one of these resolutions: 1920X1080, 1600X1200, 1400x1050 or 1024x768 pixels. [To users of PTE, we recommend using a maximum resolution. The projector will fit the size if the author does not check the option "Fixed size of the view (in pixels)" (see menu "Project / Project Options, Tab Screen ")], * The maximum duration of each AV is limited to 12 minutes. However, this festival also offers a special section for short sequences not exceeding 90 seconds. The organisers of the festival reserve the right to refuse entry to any sequence which does not comply with the above. REGISTRATION FEE Each author may enter up to two sequences as principal author and up to two other sequences with one or more co-authors. The participation fee of 15 Euros is payable by each principal author, regardless of the number of sequences entered. REGISTRATION Your registration will be accepted on receipt of a complete entry before the closing date. The entry will consist of a CD on which is printed or written the details of the author, the duration of the sequence and the name of the software used. (We prefer to receive the CDs in cardboard envelopes if possible. Those in plastic boxes often arrive broken). The CD must contain the following for each sequence * The file of the sequence itself eg “Title-1400.exe” * A poster describing the sequence in jpeg format, 20x30cm and 300dpi * A photo of the author or team of authors in jpeg format * A completed entry form. A blank is downloadable from the website as a spreadsheet (eg. Excel/Scalc....) The payment of 15 Euros in cash or as a Money Order (irrespective of the number of sequences presented by the author) should be placed in a padded 20x30 envelope together with the CD and posted in time to arrive by 17th September 2010 at the following address: GAPHE Festival Diaporama Maison des Associations – Ecole de Musique 3, Esplanade de la Liberté 57700 Hayange France PRIZES AND AWARDS The Joseph Aque Trophy will be presented for the best AV of the festival. FIAP medals, a trophy of the FPS and Medal of the City of Hayange will be awarded. (Three separate awards will be given for short works of 90 seconds max duration.) SPECIAL SECTION FOR SHORT AVs The 2010 festival will include a special section dedicated to achievements with short AVs, less than 90 seconds long. For this category, we encourage authors to participate with an unlimited number of entries. Three specific prizes will be awarded for this competition. In addition, the jury could award a prize in the main section of the International Festival of the City of Hayange. Diaporama Concept www.diaporamaconcept.com
  8. Welcome to the forum, Brianh. Good common sense. Jeff
  9. Thanks, Igor. What is your new favourite bug? Jeff
  10. Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window. Using PTE 6.5 - Beta 8 When I switch from one project to another (File/Open) I sometimes get this error message. It seems to be when switching to a new project without making modifications to the previous one. Both .pte files are in the same folder. Not a serious problem and it is Beta software. Regards, Jeff
  11. I enjoyed it too. Well done! The Xperts I know caution against too many different kinds of transition in one show. It this sequence, I think the diversity worked very well, added interest and the inclusion of 'rotating' portrait shots as objects in landscape backgrounds was excellent. Jeff
  12. 'X' is the unknown quantity. Can't remember the 'pert' bit but along the lines of a little squirt. BTW Rudd is no longer PM of Australia. News seems to travel at tortoise speed in the outback. Jeff
  13. Hello Lin, Many thanks for another excellent recommendation. Xara3D is easy to learn and implement. Anyone wanting to try it should just remember that the latest Beta release of PTE is necessary for the animations to work. Regards, Jeff
  14. THE NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB (NPC) HAS THE PLEASURE OF INVITING YOU TO THE NEXT PRETORIA AUDIO-VISUAL CLUB EVENT 3-2-1 Challenge Show The public viewing in South Africa will be presented at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve Auditorium, Pretoria on 3rd July 2010 from 13h00. Only the very best AVs from England, France, Italy, South Africa and elsewhere will be shown. This will probably be the only opportunity you will have to view the best short AVs of 2010 and we encourage you to be there. The AVs have been pre-judged and there are four from South Africa in the top 40!!! We are most grateful for a generous sponsorship from the Chairman of the AV Division of PSSA. For more details contact Sarel Naude LPSSA on 083 376 7111 or sarel.naude@sita.co.za Jeff Morris LRPS APSSA
  15. Just a tip for those living in the sticks: google for "anaglyph glasses red/cyan" and you will find suppliers all over the World. There is even one in Africa. Regards, Jeff
  16. Luckily I use NVIDIA. Thanks for your encyclopedic knowledge, Peter. Jeff
  17. Hello Don, That is strange and not something that I have noticed - vanilla PTE v6, Windows XP 1024x768. Can you try BreezeBrowser, which I use? Let us know the outcome, Regards, Jeff
  18. I could not find an emoticon for tongue-in-cheek Jeff
  19. Hi Dom, Are you doing all truetype and other fonts ! ! ! Jeff
  20. Great idea, Dom. I like it. Keep it up. Have you tried making the exe with 6.0? Jeff
  21. I also have Topaz. Try it often but only keep the result occasionally. It works with some photos but not with all. Jeff
  22. Peter, Points taken. Well explained. Possibly difficult to adhere to. Thank you, Jeff
  23. Well done Chris, You seem to have been lurking in the background for 12 months - obviously picked up a lot in that time. I like your 'thick' frame. What do the experts think? It has been suggested to me that one does not need a white (or any colour) border. Again, what do the experts say? I want to learn too. Great to see an old SAR loco! Regards, Jeff
  24. Peter, please explain why you almost always use frames? I can see the benefit if you have more than one embedded object that you want to control as 'one' but isn't it extra work if there is only one object in a frame with one 'animation'? Thanks, Jeff
  25. Hello, I have the Olympus DS30 and find it good (nothing to compare it with). Use it as a portable device for sound effects. Also use it with a Rode NT4 mic plugged directly into the Olympus for voice-overs. Jeff
