  1. Thanks Ken for your continued interest in my shows, much appreciated. We had a few days of cloud and rain when we first arrived, but otherwise for the balance of the 6 weeks we were in Perth, it was absolutely perfect and very very hot. Have not decided where off to next. I hope to make a trip soon up our coast to the St.Lucia Estuary, a world heritage site where I hope to take photos' of the wild life and the magnificent scenery it has to offer.
  2. Thank you for your comments Mick, much appreciated. I do agree with you regarding what I call a 50/50 shot. I tried to apply the 1/3rd rule in most of my shots, but when on holiday and trying to absorb all around you and all the new sights, this was not always possible. I do like to take shots from ground level if possible, thus giving more depth to the shot. In a lighter vain, I often found myself lagging behind family as I tried to get the best shot and then rushing off to catch up.
  3. Hi all, Penguin Island is situated south of Perth and a 5 minute ferry ride takes you from the mainland to the island. The island is small in size and by following the pathways which have been constructed for the public, one can see most of the island. We encountered a lot of bird life on the island and unfortunately did not see many wild penguins as they were either in the ocean or out of sight under rocks due to growing their new set of feathers. We did attend a show of the little penguins which are the smallest in the penguin family. These are featured in my show taken wth my 200mm lens. The day we were on the island, the wind was howling and this is evident from my shots of the ocean. Despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the island. I have attached a link to a website which tells more about Penguin Island for those that may be interested. http://www.penguinisland.com.au/ Comments on the show are welcome. http://www.mediafire.com/?r8n1dzuenhglsl8
  4. Hi all, Burswood Park is situated east of the CBD area of Perth on the banks of the Swan River. We spent a very pleasant day walking around the park which has plenty attractions, including the paralympian and olympian names of all who have represented Western Australia in the modern games. The park verges on the banks of the Swan River and we spent a relaxing time sitting on the banks watching the seagulls and boats on the river. Alongside the park is the Crown Hotel, entertainment and casino centre. The hotel is magnificent and I was able to take some good shots inside the hotel. Surrounding the hotel are lakes where we saw a number of black swans. There is also a golf course and cycling tracks which wind their way along the Swan River. Any comments will be welcome. http://www.mediafire.com/?dnu5pjj3zq28odk

  7. Thank you Eric and Ken for your comments. We visited the park on our first day of the holiday and were amazed at the variety of animals and birds that were housed in the park. Colin
  8. Hi all, A very short presentation on our visit to Caversham Wildlife Park. The park is situated on the outskirts of Perth, about a 30 minutes drive from the CBD. Our entrance fee was all inclusive and we were also able to visit many of the shows put on within the park. The main attraction for us was being able to get up close to the Koala bears and the Kangaroos'. Colin http://www.mediafire.com/?xsmqghuwtqrqp6k ps. I have included a link to their official website for those that are interested http://www.cavershamwildlife.com.au/
  9. Maureen, MAGNIFICENT! A superb collection of photographs that capture the beauty of Iceland. Colin
  10. Thank you all for your kind comments. Lin: All were hung in that tiny room. It was creepy seeing the tiny cell that they were held in prior to hanging. Did look for possible escape routes, but no chance of that. Eric: You make some good points. I like the idea of converting to mono or sepia. Gary: Your location of the subject is noted. One could I suppose attach a map of the location with the description of the AV in the post. Colin
  11. Hi all, An interesting visit was made to the Fremantle Prison on my 2nd trip to Fremantle. The first convicts were made to build their own prison. From 1855 to 1991, 350,000 people were incarcerated here. The highest numbers held at any one time were 1,200 men and 58 women. Of those, 43 men and one woman were executed on sight. The last to be executed was serial killer Eric Edgar Coole in 1964. Our tour took us to all parts of the prison and the exercise yards, including the execution room and cells where those who were to be hung spent their last hours. I need to mention that the music I have chosen is not of a jolly nature. The theme is that of horror and may not be to everybody's taste. You can be the judge and executioner!!!!! Any comments will be welcome! http://www.mediafire.com/?8jwqoab3lrusnnm
  12. Jim, Namaqualand is a beautiful part of our country and it is amazing how the flowers just spring up from nowhere once the rains start. I think you captured the beauty of the Namaqualand daisies very well and I loved your close up shots. All in all, a very good show which I enjoyed. Thanks for sharing. Colin
  13. Hi all, I just loved the city of Fremantle or "Freo" as the locals call it. The city is a major port of Western Australia and is situated south west of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River. It was a pleasure walking around the city centre where many of the old buildings have been restored. The west end of town is acclaimed as one of the best examples of a victorian port streetscape in the world. The port hosts big fishing fleets, container ships and large cruise vessels. The city is a hub for art lovers, musicians and street performers. The Fremantle prison is well worth a visit and I enjoyed the tour that I went on. I hope to show this in a seperate AV. 20MB, 5Mins 43Sec, 49 slides. http://www.mediafire.com/?rpuhh9o99akt2ko
  14. Thank you Lin and Ken for your comments. I visited the park a number of times in order to take in all that there is to see and especially the various memorials that are scattered around the park. Barry, Thank you for the advise re zipping my files. Will zip them in future. Colin
  15. Hi all, Kings Park is a very popular tourist destination in Perth. It is situated on a hilltop overlooking the beautiful city of Perth and the Swan River. The park is vast with pathways winding through botanical gardens and lush green trees and colourful bushes. There are also many statues of famous people and founding fathers of the city. A magnificent memorial to the fallen dead from the world wars stands on the edge of the park with views of the Swan River and the city. Hope I have been able to capture and show you the magnificent beauty of the park. Colin http://www.mediafire.com/?z1t1xdzicbwih68

  17. Thank you Bill for the kind comments. We certainly loved Perth and what it had to offer, Colin
  18. Thank you Mick for your comments. I do agree with everyone about the video clip. Ken, we approached the Australian coastline at about 10,000ft and made a slow descent turning a number of times and when on final approach, we were at about 2,000ft. Colin
  19. Thank you Ken, Eric and Roger for your kind comments. I was in two minds as to whether to include my video clip, but decided to keep it. This video clip is my own which was taken with my video camera. The full video I uploaded to Youtube and have included the link to this if anybody is interested in watching. Colin
  20. Hi all, In December and January we paid a visit to Perth, Australia to visit family. The city of Perth is beautiful and there is plenty to do and see. We were very lucky with the weather and it was very hot at times with temperatures often in the 40's. This is the first in a series of presentations that I hope to post on the forum. 45,2MB, 50 slides, 5m,44sec, 1 video insert. Colin http://www.mediafire.com/?e3f01c870nh3uhe

  22. Hi Andrew, A very interesting selection of pictures, nicely put together to illustrate as I would put it, the daily life the officers and troops in the field have to endure. The smiles on the faces on their return home tells it all. Well done and thanks for sharing. Colin
