I am from Belgium, this is my first reply.

I do think that Dutch = Dutch (see "de nieuwe spelling" and "het groot dictee der nederlandse taal" and "van Dale" ...) there are rules in our language indeed. If PTE is translated by a Flemish person I don't know, but the choise of the words he or she made are sometimes confusing.

The "Dutch" translation that is send with PTE is not complete and not very well structured in the menus and options. But so far better than none.

So about translation of PTE in Dutch, I already made a new one.

I use the program for some time now and frequently I read the messages on the forum and adapted the translation to version 4.30 .

The grammar I used is my own choise and it is naturally possible to find other words for some instructions.

Maybe you can try it first and we can work on it further.

Sorry for the long list but you can copy it in a "Nederlands.ini" file. I do not know an other method.

Didn't mean to offend anyone by mentioning the Flemish way of translating... As you can see by the corrections of Purist, we all have our own choice of terms. This has nothing to do with 'standard Dutch' or the 'Green book'. Originally I come from the southern part of the Netherlands and I often use words which people in the middle of this country find strange. I think it is something like Queen's English and American English, Very much alike but different .

I am going to give your translation a try. Maybe we could talk about it off forum, in Dutch. Send me an e-mail if you like.

And as for Purist.... How many hours do you have to work to earn 25 Euro? Remember, everything you do in your spare time will cost you something

Thank you for your comments. Before adapting some words, capitals or not, I'll wait for other suggestions. I think the most important issue is the context of the words and sentences compared to the results of instructions, menus and options in the program. Or is it possible for someone new to understand what is happening.

I do not see why your ideas are pointless now. This forum is created for all users of PTE, as I always knew with open mind, friendly and with the intention of helping each other.

years ago -- on the old forum -- the one that got lost -- there were many Dutch members.

One fellow stated that he learned the features of the program by translating the English instructions to Dutch..

One member we never hear from any more was

Like I said I already spent 8 hours on a new translation. I was halfway through when I noticed your post. What's the point of continuing my translation and make a third one? And I don't see the point of spending my spare time to correct yours and make suggestions. What I did was quickly view your translation and post some corrections. Most of these corrections are real corrections - it has nothing to do with "choice of terms".

I started this discussion because the current Dutch translation is a shame. Even my little nephew can do it better. Therefore I offered to make a new one. I made dozens of translations so I know how to do it. But never mind, this is my last post. I'm out of here.

So we have now three translation to the Dutch language

Old (current) translation was performed by Marco van Malestijn, but last two years I ask Hans van Klinken about translations of new words.

If you all consider that two new translations (by Purist and CorVdK) are better we can remove old Dutch translation and add *BOTH* new variants.

I think it will be ideal solution. Inna advised me this idea!

The Welsh have a language !

It is very different from English but we do sometimes speak English with an accent.

The "North Walians" speak some different Welsh words to the "South Walians" but we do blow each other kisses over the mountains and smile & wave at one another !

We even marry folks from other countries !

Ian and I are from South Wales.

Ian's wife is from Scotland, and my husband is from England (but he was born in New Delhi)

So we are all a very happy friendly International family of friends who enjoy PTE.

........and we are also happy to follow PTE information in English !

It is wonderful that we have so many generous people who will freely share their knowledge, expertise and translating skills so we can all benefit!

I am also very sorry about the problem that two new translations were created at one moment!

I use PicturesToExe for some time now, but it took me a certain period of time to become familiar with it and then I started step by step with an adapted translation of the Dutch ini file.

Although I am a regular reader of the forum I did not post any message until a few days ago. Indeed I reacted on the intention of somebody who wants to make a new translation in Dutch. As you can read, there was never mensioned that translation work was already started. At that time my translation was ready and so I reacted on the post to prevent extra work and offered a cooperation, which was not accepted.

It was never my intention to become famous with it, to have my name on the score, to have a free licence of the program, or whatever.

My only intention was, in the context of this forum to try to help and to do something back to Igor and his colleagues.

But no hard feelings. I hope that Dutch speaking users will give the new translation a try anyway and post many reactions and suggestions.

Together we can make the best translation, so that new users of PicturesToExe can understand in their proper language the working of the program sooner. The main goal, I think is still, to be creatif with the program and to make beautiful shows with it.

No hard feelings On second thought I think it's best if we make only 1 Dutch translation. Since you already made a good one (I stopped halfway through) we can try to make yours even better. I helped a fella from Belgium -- off list - to get the words right for his show's description - - he was having problems -- he described to me what he was trying to say and i worked with him to get it into English.

Thank you very much for your reached hand, I take it with both hands. As you said you are a specialist in translations, I am not. Your suggestions will be adapted, I have no problem with it at all. I think we have the same goal, to make the best translation possible in our Dutch language. If you want to be in charge of the coordination in a new topic or thread I am there to help. For me computers, the internet, posting and so on are quite new. We all can learn from each other and I still have to learn a lot.

Please as you wrote, take a closer look at the translation after the weekend and afterwards we can split tasks to adapt your remarks, suggestions or corrections.
