A question on features of V 12

So, if I understand correctly, the new release 12 does not implement multiple levels of video/image, as well as multi-track sound: is that right?

No, it's not ready for V12. Sorry. We've started the work on this code, but multiple slide tracks are still far from complete.
It will a huge change for the interface, the project, and the entire PTE, this is why we've been working on it for so long.

So, should I assume that V 12 is, in fact, a sort of general upgrade (bug fix?) while we wait for an XYZ version to be released in a few years with more video/image tracks and the ability to mix layers like in Photoshop?

I respect your opinion, but I cannot agree. Version 12.0 includes significant improvements, new features, and effects, with 1-2 more major features which we plan to include before the final release.
Multiple slide tracks are complex feature that affects PTE's core. We're working on it, and it will arrive when it's ready.
The upgrade price for V12 will be reasonable ($36-49), and unlike many others, we don't use subscriptions. Users can choose to upgrade to V12 or continue to use V11, which we actively maintain.

More than just agreeing or disagreeing, there are certain views and expectations that I’m not convinced by. Of course, the final beta will clear things up, but in the meantime, I’d like to understand if the Video Optimizer will remain a standalone feature or if it will be effectively integrated into V12?

Hi, I’ve already asked about this in another post, and they directed me here. I see now that it’s not good news; I was hoping that, given how much gameplay potential those timelines offer, they would be included in this update.

I understand that programming can be complicated, and as more features are added over time, it can become even more complicated, 

Since it seems like more people are asking for it,  I thought this would have been considered a long time ago to make this leap in this version

Multiple image Tracks were asked for a long time ago & have been worked towards for equally as long.

It is not that the programming itself is complicated, but that it changes the whole way in which PTE will work
It is far more than just adding in extra code, the whole structure will need to change.

I am not involved with the development of PTE, but I can fully appreciate what is involved it trying to do this.
It is a major rewrite of the basic code.
To enable existing Projects to still work will be even more complicated.

 

PTE is extremely powerful as it is, you can do so much in O&A. But some things require a bit more effort from the user.
Adding in extra image tracks may make some things easier to do, especially for beginners. But we still need to retain the power & flexibility of O&A.

I really like the idea of multiple slide/object tracks. We've already written some of the code.
One of the most important ideological questions is slide duration and transition duration.
You can already see (V11) the difference in the timing concept for slides and audio clips - they are calculated differently.
I'd like to discuss this topic after the release of V12.

Why is it that everytime I make a project in PTE AV Studio for Windows I end up with some empty slides? I tried the Mac version for the first time this weekend and on the first try my project has no empty slides. I made the same project in Windows again and sure enough: empty slides. Very happy with the Mac-version. (Oh, and I made the Windows-project on a windows computer.)

Also let us know the exact version number from the About window.

And try with the simple new project. Add 3-5 images, check out how it works. You can also check the Sample Project (from the main menu > Help > Open Sample project command).
