Mike2003 Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 I would like to add a mask to an image but would like to pull each corner of the mask into a point on the image which whilst rectangular is asymmetric. Can this be done? I have looked in the help file and the forum, maybe I have searched using the wrong term. Any suggestions would be helpful. I want to map a video image onto a building where the building is asymmetrical partly because I have used a wide angle lens. Quote
jkb Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 Hi Mike, You need to use the 3D rotation to adjust it. I have used 3D movements X, Y & Z to correct converging verticals. It may not be as accurate as doing it in something like Photoshop, but with some trial & error you can get it near enough. Jill 2 Quote
Mike2003 Posted April 10 Author Report Posted April 10 Hi Jill, thanks for reply, that's what have been doing and have been tearing my hair out, its very much trial and error as you say and its still not quite right. I was wondering if had missed a more elegant and user friendly option. Mike Quote
Bad Dancer Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 Hi Mike, There is no "Free transformation" function in PTE, and the layer changes the side lengths proportionally when zooming. You can cut a hole in a third-party image in a photo of a building, say in Photoshop, and add your photo or video with an underlying layer. You can also create a white mask of the desired size and shape in Photoshop and place it as the top layer above the photo of the building, in this case you can add a shadow. An example of applying a mask from a video: 3 Quote
AleAle5025 Posted April 11 Report Posted April 11 Bad Danser. Hi! You have attached the logo to ant. Using PTE AV Studio or After Effects. Good job. Quote
jienense Posted April 11 Report Posted April 11 If the problem is that you don't have Photoshop, you can do it in GIMP, which is free; you can even create the mask with the current version of Paint, which supports multiple layers. Mask with paint 2 Quote
Bad Dancer Posted April 11 Report Posted April 11 AleAle5025. Hi! Thanks for the comment! Yes, the video was made in After Effects. This is the finished video that I inserted into the PTE project. In PTE, it is difficult and time-consuming to do this, save the video as a sequence of frames and move the added file manually in each frame. 2 Quote
Mike2003 Posted 23 hours ago Author Report Posted 23 hours ago Apologies for not replying sooner after the prompt replies. Yes, I could create a cut out using PS etc. but I was hoping to be able to do this easily from within PTE . But you are right, in the absence of PTE, then its PS (actually for me it'll be Affinity but that's a point of detail). Quote

Hi Mike I am interested in your stand against Adobe and just trying to understand it from your perspective. Here is why I support Adobe from my POV. Affinity is free now that it has been bought by Canva, an Australian privately owned business. It was inexpensive before Canva purchased it and updates were done with some frequency. My use of Affinity was for 360 editing after Adobe discontinued that in pursuit of the AI editing. I know Canva is a desktop publishing platform and it is still privately owned at this stage. My memories of Google buying Nik Efex, making it free but never updating, and it eventually lapsed until bought by DXO. Canva is expected to list in 2027 as one of the biggest IPO's. My concern is how Canva will put money into R & D for Affinity in the future after listing? Has Canva purchased Affinity to boost the IPO price? Shareholders continually want increased profits and the first thing to go is R&D that does not generate income (even though it is a part of Canva desktop). I just renewed my yearly Adobe Photography Plan subscription in Australia for under $200 a saving of over $80 on the monthly plan. I believe it is more expensive in the US? I also seem to be getting rewarded for being an early adopter of the subscription model that started in 2013. It was $108 AUD then so an $87 increase in over 13 years is hardly price gouging with all the new features. I recall that PS Ver 1 on 5 floppy disks was $1600 AUD with no free updates and there were more pirated copies than officially versions sold by Adobe. Cheers Mark Quote
