  1. Well Maureen, what can I add to this. Firstly, I really enjoyed it, a great set of really interesting and well composed images, which from you Maureen, I would expect nothing less. I beg to differ on the comments about the towers and high buildings not being in frame, I did not even notice this had (allegedly) happened, so watched the show through a couple of times to confirm this. Of course each to their own, but in my view in city shots like this, the problem with converging verticals I feel is far more of a distraction, and using very wide lenses, just shrinks everything down to minuscule detail. I will argue that making good AV show is not just about producing a sequence of ‘photographic club’ style images, the sequence has to say something, otherwise it will not be of interest. This show is interesting. Thank you for sharing t with us.
  2. That was certainly, in my opinion a great sequence of real top notch images. Seeing some of your stills, I have come to expect nothing less ( hope this sounds like a complement, it was intended as one). I was also quite taken in by your choice of transitions, all very subtly done, all well thought through, yet giving the impression of simplicity. What the show didn’t do, is tell me where, when or why. I think you know the answer to this, but somehow it did not come through sufficiently clearly in the show, or at least to me. I think I am not somehow associating the opening harbour shots, which are really great, with the river still and the textures, which were also really good; so its I little difficult to suggest how to do this. Saying that, I have watched it through a couple of time and it still held my interest. The “This is a tight budget production, so no video, animation or voiceovers”, was a very good choice, and in fact does add something to it. Thanks for sharing it.
  3. Really good show there; bags of interesting images, all nicely themed all nice and sharp. Some of these single subject shows (if this is the right expression)can work remarkably well, the risk is of course being too repetitive. I think you did this quite well by keeping the overall show time quite short. I do quite like derelict hulks; when I see them I often wonder whose dream this was, who was the builder? My dad was a boat builder, so I very easily marvel at the craftsmanship of these wooden ships; which really is all the quality’s you often want from a slideshow.... Thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. Bert I quite enjoyed this, a splendid record of an event we would not see over here. I would say that a few of the different transitions don’t really add anything more to this show, the action is already in the photographs, but each to our own. As already said, you have some great low point of view shots, which really add quite a dramatic impact to the whole sequence. Very nice work, thanks for sharing it with us.
  5. Well Maureen, another first class and very interesting slideshow. I always enjoy these travel records, they have a certain lasting feel to them, quite something to show off to future generations. You chose some fantastic light, did you take any pictures after the sun when below the horizon, but before it got dark? For a moment or two I did wonder where the music was going when the theme to the godfather start, however it worked really well with the procession. Mille Grazie
  6. Mick I thought that was an excellent slideshow that could of stood head and shoulders with the rest of the best, your images show the British countryside off at in all its sunning beauty. Unfortunately the cuckoo just looked so unrealistic, it became a distraction not an addition. The effect of this was to hijack your concept of the music taking the centre stage, which as an original idea, was quite good. I am quite OK with the movement, with the exception of the rapid zoom into the cuckoo, to me the movement does add a little extra to the show if done subtlety. A great choice of music, and a show like this does give one the opportunity to listen and relax. Thanks for sharing it.
  7. I think walking around with a camera is a great pastime, taking one along with you to record a journey, doubly so. Some very stunning photos there showing great views and precarious paths; what more could a walking party want. I thought you were just pushing the boundaries of duration, which, if too long can tip a viewers overall opinion of a presentation. There were a few similar images at the beginning that are good images, but are not adding anything to the overall presentation and could come out. I say this not because I just want something to say, but because I think this is a very good slideshow. Good choice of subject and music and a great way of looking back in years to come. Thank you for sharing it.
  8. I found that a very entertaining slideshow, it was very interesting how you presented what saw as the highlights of other countries. I thought the photography was excellent, clear and not over processed. I think on this type of presentation its best not to over process images, as there is a temptation to exclude very interesting but cluttered street scenes, which normally break composition rules. What this then achieves is a great travel record to look back on and share, and not just a display of ‘photo club’ images. I did not see anything that could be added or taken away that could improve this presentation, the duration was fine and you chose a track that suited the presentation well. Thanks for sharing it with us.
  9. Hi and thanks for the comments. I set the camera to take one picture every second, and took just over 1,700 photos over a period of about 28 minutes. I set the quality to small RAW, on a 16 Mg card
  10. Download Link to Beechbrook The Severn Bore, a timelapse filmed from Newnham churchyard on 4 June 2012. A bore is a naturally occurring tidal wave which forms as the rising tide forces a large volume of water through a narrowing river channel with a rising river bed. Bores only occur during high tide in the lower reaches of a few rivers with large tidal ranges throughout the world. The Severn Estuary has the second highest tidal range in the world. In any one day the difference between the highest and lowest tide can be more than 14.5 metres. This bore was classed as a one star bore, with a tide of 9.1 meters at Sharpness, as five star bore is much more impressive. The Severn Bore has an average speed of 16km per hour and can reach two metres in height. The size of the bore can be affected by opposing winds or high fresh-water levels which reduce its height and delay its arrival. A following wind can increase its height and speed when it arrives. The name bore comes from the Scandinavian or Icelandic 'bara' meaning a wave, swell or billow. This is the first timelapse I have filmed, It has some flicker, caused by the aperture of the lens. I would like to remove this but without resorting to third party plug-ins. Music; Moments in Space - spinmeister File size id 101Mg so it is a big file, 1,700 RAW images in the sequence. Your thoughts or comments are welcome
  11. Great slideshow Barry, You have certainly exploited the power of a great piece of software to show its potential.
  12. Excellent AV Slideshow; a really great series of candid shots that capture the atmosphere of an event quite nicely. Great choice of music, and nice to see YouTube exercising some common sense with the soundtrack, they have been doing this for a couple of years now.
  13. Peter This is an excellent presentation, and encompasses all of the right ingredients that give it interest and also a meaningful subject. At this stage I will of course confess that I also happen to be interested in lead mining. I know how difficult it is to do underground photography, and obtain a clear and sharp image; I will say here you have done this remarkably well. I am interested in ‘other’ ways to use AV shows, and have done similar things with corical building and salmon fishing (I cannot remember if I ever posted them here). They are a great way of presenting the past as an alternative to academic literature, and AV shows are also far more engaging. It is important to understand that doing something different like this, where you are telling a story, and explaining methods and skills long past can be quite challenging; so I think you should take time to say to yourself, great job. I really like the way you have covered the interesting aspects of lead mining; depicting the movement of the water wheel and bell cranks worked out quite well. Perhaps you may consider doing a follow on AV about lead ore processing? One thing that stands out is the quality of the sound recording, it certainly add a sense of realism, and holds things together quite nicely; I think the Zoom recorders are first class. Thanks for sharing it with us.
  14. Hi Paul Thanks for posting this show, these travel themes are my favorite type of show. A real good sequence of bright clear images showing all the interesting aspects of these Dutch museums. I found the opening panorama and titles together clashed, I think the panorama should be on its own. There was one image which was quite blown out, It stood out amongst all the other really great images. You have a fine collection of interesting stuff, so I think you could remove it. Great choice of music, and the timing and transition choices were, I thought, well done. Thanks again for sharing it.
  15. Well if this is your miasma phase, please continue with it until further notice. Great sequence of really bright colorful images well framed and presented. Good use of the pan and zoom and show timings. I can understand you using the background for the titles, but I think something more solid, perhaps a colour from the background would have made a bit more impact. Don’t forget to credit the music and yourself too. Great show, thanks for sharing it with us.
  16. Bill My preference would be to use your site, to me, it is the home of AV slideshows. The reason I have not used it recently, is because I did have my own site, which I did not renew the server space, being a bit busy studying, and since then I have not got around to renewing it. So I feel I'm taking a bit of a liberty using your facility that you pay for, and with a lot of good will. Hope this makes sense.
  17. Any advance on 'high'?
  18. Phil, no, I certainly disagree with you on this one, and in fear of hijacking a topic, you can get a technical as you like, but as far as I am concerned, some common sense should prevail. By all means, people who are duplicating music CD's or providing downloads and selling it on, or are making other financial gains are thieves. The people who produce these AV slideshows, both here and on other sites are people who are engaging in a leisure activity for sheer pleasure, and no one should be shot through the lungs or branded a thief for that. I find these so called 'copyright police' are a bigger bunch of crooks than the amateur who posts an AV show. Theses crooks are just out to grab easy money, hiding behind the 'copy right banner', and don't want to put the work in for it. Please do not remind me of the poor struggling musician, poor struggling musician are what they are; poor musicians. If I do a job, I get paid once, I don't expect to be paid every day afterwards for the rest of my life. If I do a crap job, then I don't get paid at all; yet the stupid copy right laws and copy right police seem to think they should. When you read the mind mangling copy right legislation, you will find that it is almost impossible to comply, we may as well, un-invent music. Fortunately YouTube has, at last, come to a common sense agreement with most of the record companies. You post a film or slideshow with copy right material in it, the artist get a credit, and a link to iTunes to buy the track, should they so wish. Easy, no one get branded a thief, the artist get air time.
  19. I cannot add much to what the others have already said, great set of photographs, lovely pin sharp images with bags of interest. This level of detail really does do the creators of these fine machines justice, real craftsmanship. The whole show certainly gives an insight into the hot-rod....roadster scene, wish I had a chromium plating factory. I wonder how well these creation drive? Thanks for sharing it.
  20. Aginum Stunning show, great photography, amazing locations. I really like those animated steam effects, they set the scene and add to the overall interest. I am also a fan of the subtle pan and zoom effect, however I think yours could have been made slightly more subtle, I found them almost bordering into a distraction. I am saying this because this is a really good slide show. It has so much going for it, that I feel it would be well worth just making a few very small adjustments, just to allow the viewer to focus on the quality of the images. Good choice of music, perfect timing, great job. Thanks for sharing it with us.
  21. I did like that, you have captured not only the scenery, but the mood of Venice perfectly there. The lighting was perfect, and I like the way you ended with that final image looking across toward Marco square in that wonderful golden sunlight; end of the day.... The sharpness and clarity of the images are a lesson to us all; not to go around snapping at everything in sight and hoping a few good uns will turn out. It's about taking your time and shooting each image as if it is very special, which of course it should be, it will provide you with a lifelong memory mnemonic Thanks for sharing it with us.
  22. I thinks that's a fair cop about the white tee shirt, I was being a bit lazy and will certainly take a look at the synchronizations. I have always done, because I prefer a white border and felt that it contained the image. However with full screen slideshows I am wondering if they add anything now; need to think that one over. Thanks for your input
  23. Hi and thank you for your input, good advice as always. I agree, it is a bit on the short side, I was making a balance between just the city of Athens and some of the islands. In the end I thought I would do the Islands as a separate show, because they are very different in character. Thanks again
  24. Location: Athens, Greece. Year: June 2010. Aspect ratio: 16:10. Screen resolution: 1680x1050. Videos: N/A Size of file: 47.75 Mbs. Run time: 2:35. Manual control (yes/no): Yes. Camera and lens: Canon EOS 5D. Any other info that you can provide: Many years ago as a student, my teacher, an Architect, told me of three places of Architectural significance I should visit. The Parthenon on Acropolis in Athens was one such site. He insisted I take note of the gently curving plinth; 'entasis' the application of a convex curve to a surface for aesthetic purposes was the thing that touched him most. I was overwhelmed by that fact that all this was built with basic hand tools. PS, the week I chose to go, was right in the middle of the Greek riots and that volcano in Iceland. 25. Well you are dead right there Gary, there is always room for experimentation.
