  1. Gary Thanks for posting this one, it certainly give an insight into the working of Night Market in Phuket; looking at the sheer quantity and variety of food available, it's a wonder how most of the local population are not over weight. I like the quality and clarity of the night time video shots, and the concept of the in car sequence; I think an award for bravery should go to the driver. My shortcoming are around the question of 'is this an AV slideshow'? As a video production in its own right, it works remarkably well, but as a slideshow I am not so sure. I do think that video sequences inserted into AV shows do add a little extra interest, so with this in mind, I would be tempted to reduce the length of the video sequence, and then top and tail it with some still photos to paint the scene. this would provide as a lead in to the video, and maintain the boundary and space between video and AV slideshow. Thank you for sharing it with us.
  2. This is a very good question, a difficult one to answer, and such a lot to choose from. I am not going to rank these in any particular order, but have very loosely categorised them as follows; One which used a combination of archive and own images and commentary that I liked was 'D Day' For animated genius I would say 'Smile' The Dom For a straightforward series of self taken photos I really liked the one about 'Oradour-sur-Glane'
  3. Maureen I very much like you're a 'quieter' Venice; while places like Marco square are quite stunning, there are a host of little gems within walking distance out of the tourist parts. Great slideshow, as usual, nice sharp images with bags of impact. I did notice how well you have controlled the converging verticals in some quite confined space, really stands out when photographing buildings. Thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. Paulo Very tastefully done, a real pleasure to watch, thank you.
  5. That was good fun; I imagine you had fun making it too.
  6. I always like these travel records, they are a great way of preserving the past, and will act as an amazing memory mnemonic in years to come. I like the idea of keeping things simple; complications only act to distract. The video sequences work really well, and do add a little extra when done like this. Thanks you for sharing it with us.
  7. Igor That is a great slideshow which says such a lot, purely down to its simplicity. It shows that you don't need masses of expensive, heavy and complicated photographic equipment to produce stunning results. What could be better than just going out for a walk, with a camera in your pocket, and taking a few photos; then putting together a slideshow just like this, as a record of a great day out with friends. This slideshow will now give you a whole lifetime of memories, it can be passed on to others, and its will say something about the person who made it. I believe that it is easy to get bogged down into thinking that photography is about producing camera club winning photos, when actually not many people who own a camera, are members of camera clubs. I do believe that large, pin sharp high resolution images can be stunning, but they are not a means to an end, and people have lives outside this level of exclusivity. This slideshow shows what can be done, by getting back to some basics. I am really taken in by the gently animated fames, which again say everything by their simplicity. As humans we are attracted to movement; the very gentle zoon and pan, just brings into the frame an additional interest, mirroring what we do with our own eyes (I wish someone who's good at this would write a simple tutorial), so it holds our interest an extra second or so. The titling, the music and quotes, again, keeping things simple and holding the whole things together. Thank you for sharing this with us.
  8. To me, this was a good slide show, irrespective of its subject. An interesting series of images placed outside of context. I find that the use of images by others can work remarkably well when assembling PTE slideshows, constraint can being about creativity.
  9. Well that was fun, it's quite amazing what can be produced within the constraints of a fix group of images, its certainly makes people think and create. Thanks for sharing it.
  10. Paul Great show; a series of very interesting images that say everything for themselves. No need for animation or adjustment
  11. Cracking slideshow Maureen, very dramatic landscapes on Skye, loved the light.
  12. I think when your photographing running water you either have to use a very fast shutter speed to freeze the droplets or slow to show the movement; done well, they can both look really good. The images as presented are really well taken, and look good. My only downside is the reputation of similar images, which is not telling me the story of Rydal Beck or as you say the essence of the river. This is a shame as it looks from the shots at the start and end to be a very beautiful place; I think if you interspersed these close ups with some more general views, this would be a really great slidshow. Certainly the timing and transitions are done well, each images is quite sharp, thanks for sharing t with us.
  13. Another absolutely stunning slideshow, what a smashing record of time away from home, it certainly captures the sprite of Iceland. Thanks for sharing it
  14. Wonderful collection of good sharp images with bags of impact that really captures an atmosphere. As you quite rightly point out, lot more images, but by keeping things contained you maintain the utility value, leaving the viewer with a desire for more as opposed to feeling force fed. Great slideshow, thanks for sharing it with us.
  15. Hi there Bill Good to see you too, I hope you and your family are keeping well. I am so glad you think I have not lost my touch; I did feel I had lost some photographic inspiration for a while, and had nothing to contribute to what is an excellent forum. But now I have some 'me time', I really enjoyed getting out then spending a few hours working on a show. The degree has changed the way I look at photographic images, and given me a insight on how people seek to preserve their memories and special moments in time. My message to everyone is keep taking the photos and posting your shows, so in years to come, we can have something to look back upon, and smile. Regards
  16. Ken Firstly my belated condolences on your sad news. I know that you will hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on your friends for strength, and always remember how much you are cared about. May your God bless and comfort you and your family. The most remarkable thing about me is I am quite unremarkable. Born and bought up on an inner city council estate. Attended a state school and excelled at achieving not one formal qualification, other than earning me a place at the university of hard knocks. But when I got back, I loved it; spent 11 years at it; will carry on. As you say, great bunch here.
  17. rick235, I zipped it with WinRar, which in hindsight not everyone uses. Have reloaded it up to the link below. Click Here To Download Ken Nice to see you again, I hope your keeping well? Yes have finished school, at last. A lot to do, and all for love, but very rewarding, if I lived on your side of the pond, I could become a museum curator; here in the UK I think we take our heritage for granted, and could learn a few things from you guys. Thanks for your comments, I agree that the transitions are a bit slow, I think I needed about 3 or 4 more slides to fill it out, but the weather did not hold for long enough. Still, a good excuse for getting out down the 'cut' again soon. Regards
  18. I have not done much photography for a while, it's been pushed out of the way for a few other things and I feel like I had lost interest in it to a certain degree. However I was walking this weekend along some of the many canals we have a round Birmingham and the Black country; more than Venice. Built in the mid eighteenth century, they are always a great opportunity to see and immerse yourself in some industrial architecture, something I never lose interest in; the very thing that got me into photography. This PTE show is a short walk along the Stourbridge Canal, known locally as the crystal mile, Stourbridge crystal glass has long been synonymise with skills and craftsmanship of the highest quality. The canal was a major factor in the transportation of these most delicate goods. Your thoughts and comments are as always very welcome. Enjoy Click here to download 40Meg download
  19. I think you have made a fair point there Lin, we do need to bear in mind that we should not be imposing the characteristics of other forums on this one. What we have here are a group of people who post there shows because they love making them, and enjoy the experience of sharing. It would be pretty pointless making an audio visual presentation not to show it. I would like to underpin the principal that if someone posts a show, they should make it clear if they want any critique, or even post it on a forum where there are members whose focus is the give constructive comments and offer advice and guidance. However let us not lose sight what I think was the intention of this forum; a place for people to share there work. I personally enjoy most of the shows here, be they technical masterpieces or holiday snaps (which I do have a fondness for). We must appreciate that most people here are amateurs, which if we look up the word amateur means: ‘somebody who loves or is greatly interested in something’.
  20. Hi Ken Yes agreed, I was at Charles de Gaulle airport recently, the architecture would lend it self to a show.
  21. Very nice, a great combination of images, music and poetry. Being a dog owner, it touched the spot, which is what I think AV is all about.
  22. Well what can I add to all this, another great show, every image a stunner, very ‘watchable’. Thanks for sharing it
  23. Hi Thanks you all for your very constructive comments, I have found them most helpful. As most of you have said, the ending is too abrupt, and suggests a fade to back. Agreed, I was not sure how I wanted to end this one, In view of its intended use, but I think a black fade, then start speaking would work well. To answer a few questions raised by the members: Goddi – the back border top and bottom was a mistake, I wanted a full screen with a white border so cropped my images to 1920x1080, then realised it should have been 1920x1200. As it will in the main be a projected show, I think it will be OK. Robertg – A barrage is a dam, used for generating hydroelectric power. This country has been talking about building one across the Severn for years, it would destroy thousands of square miles of estuary and of course the unique Severn bore would disappear. Lakelandlass – I do have some pictures of the Severn Bore, in fact Bore season is just starting, there is a big one due today, and next week, which I will be watching. More then happy to email you one or two, PM me with an email address. Thanks again for taking the time to comment Regards
  24. This show is part on a dissertation I am writing about the salmon fishermen of Severn Estuary. The theme of the dissertation is how our history is stored as memories within the landscape, its objects and the people who worked the river, and is the introduction to a talk and exhibition that I shall be holding at Gloucester Folk museum in June. I am trying to capture the atmosphere of this very beautiful place, which indecently could be destroyed if the Severn barrage is built, however that is another story. I do value your opinion here so your thoughts and comments (good or bad) are most welcome. Do bear in mind that I have to stand up in front of an audience and talk about a river, so I need to know if this does work look ok. Click Here
  25. Ken Yes, you may recall I had a few problems with the service provider, easyspace, I have let that contract expire, but not yet set up a service with the new provider. On my list of things to do.
