Be able to expand the O&A's play-line.
davegee replied to goddi's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Hi Peter, I have given three examples which clearly show how, as in Audition etc, this problem can be addressed for KFs 1ms apart. I can do no more in this thread. Best wishes, DG -

Jean-Claude, PLEASE, it has NOTHING to do with PIXELS! I will give you one more example - PLEASE look carefully. If the O&A Timeline Duration (A to B ) is reduced from the Slide Duration down to 100ms then it is EASY to differentiate between two Key Frames a SINGLE millisecond apart. How that reduction is achieved (or whether it can be achieved) is a matter for Igor whether it is done via a Magnifying Glass Tool or a Slider (as with Opacity in O&A) it does not matter to me. But it seems so obvious that the problem is in reducing the Time between A and B and NOTHING to do with pixels. Here's my next example (100ms) on a 1280x800 screen: DG -
Jill, My suggestion would obviate the selection process. If you create what I call an "absolute" Key Frame and add "relative" Key Frames to that Absolute Key frame then the result is exactly the same. You will have created a "Group". Without having to make the selection, if you move the Absolute Key Frame all of the relatives move by exactly the same amount - without the need for selection. I also suggested a colour scheme so that the "group" can be identified. I can't envisage circumstances where you would have an Absolute Key Frame in the middle of a "group" but it would cater for this eventuality as well. DG

Jean-Claude, From the illustration below you can clearly see that a "resolution" of 150ms is required in the O&A Timeline for a 1280X800 SCREEN (15.4"). My suggestion is / was that Igor be asked / persuaded to supply us with a slider which would allow us to view something like 75ms either side of the cursor (little blue arrow) to clearly differentiate between Key Frames on a 1280x800 monitor. Less slider movement would be required for a 1920x1080 monitor. Now, if anyone is still using a monitor which is smaller than 1280x800 I would invite him / her to please supply us with the required information for that monitor? My point is that it is not about pixels - it is about the time interval that we see on the O&A Timeline. DG P.S. There is a direct parallel here between this "problem" and the magnification of the Timeline in Audition etc - you don't alter the pixels, you alter the time interval visible in your available window. -

Jean-Claude, PIXELS are distraction - they have absolutely NOTHING to do with ths problem. PLEASE try my method on your 1280 screen and see what time interval is required to CLEARLY see the difference between the "red dots"?? I would be happy with my monitor at a "resolution" of 0.25 Seconds (250ms). On a smaller screen it might need a smaller interval or a bigger interval. My 1920x1080 24" was purely an example - your input with regard to smaller monitors would be invaluable. DG -

Peter, You must consider the highest resolution that anyone might require. It is not MATHS it is visualization. If you try it you will see what I mean. DG -

Peter, Try coming at it from a different direction? In order to achieve what you want - to be able to see each red dot distinctly and be able to see the difference between Key Frames spaced 1ms apart - then on a 1920 wide monitor (mine is a 24") you need to be able to see 1/4 second (0.25 seconds) along the O&A window. That is allowing for the Objects Panel etc. Let's take a 30 second Slide? Then you need to zoom in to a factor of 120 to achieve your goal. A 4 second slide would only need a "zoom" of a factor of 16. Try it - add a 0.25 second slide (no transition) to a project and then add Key Frames at 1ms intervals - I can easily distinguish between Key Frames at that sort of "resolution", for want of a better/different word. The "effect" that you want Igor to be able to produce is to "Set Timeline Width to xxx ms" at the point indicated by the little blue triangle. If X=250 then you have what you want. Your O&A screen would also need to show the events of that 0.25 second window. DG -
Brian, Can't argue, but if you walk into any High St Tv etc Store 99% of the TVs on display are 1920x1080 and have a USB input and Media Player. Given the the life span of a TV these days COULD be as long as ten years I think that we are safe for a couple of years yet. I can see the difference between 1280x720 upscaled and native 1920x1080 (on my TV) and I don't compromise. There is also the possibilty that a large percentage of TV owners are not even aware of what their TVs will do for them - so I keep doing my bit to "inform, educate and entertain". For commercial purposes I think the CD / DVD approach still has a lot of "legs" and that the MPEG 4 should always be supplied on DVD for safe keeping. But the alternatives are there and should not be ignored. DG
-
Brian, The above is also true when using a 1920x1080 MPEG4 file on a USB Key plugged into a suitably equipped TV. Full control is possible and leaves the PC free to work on while viewing/pausing the tutorial. It's a viable alternative to the CD/DVD. DG

The location of the Cache Folder needs to be determined by the user (i.e. NOT C Drive). DG -

Go to "PUBLISH SHOW > HD Video" In this screen: Set the size etc required. 640 wide is very restricting - are you still using a 1024x768 projector (or even smaller)?? The "Author" will need to have "PTE Deluxe" Installed. DG -
Problems adding a second audio to the Timeline (SOLVED)

Robert, You do not HAVE to. Only if you want to see the waveform and be able to apply fades etc. DG -
Problems adding a second audio to the Timeline (SOLVED)
davegee replied to RobertAlbright's topic in General Discussion
Robert, You have to insert the Video Audio in the Project Options Audio. Create a new track then click on Add Audio File - in the browse box change the file type to Video. Choose the Video you are using and its audio will be inserted. In O&A > Properties Mute the Audio of the Video. You then have two separate parts of the video - the video itself and its sound. You have to synchronise them yourself. DG -

I am trying a new Custom Transition and have applied a Shadow to Slide 1 and Slide 2. The shadows show in the Edit Custom Transition box but do not show after the Custom Transition is Saved and Applied. Anyone else seeing this behaviour? DG

Add to this that a TEMPLATE will show up in the list of Templates in the File Menu - a Backup in ZIP will not. DG

I have sort of followed this thread from the beginning and wondered if there might be a flaw in the thinking? A program I watched this morning (Click) sort of indicated that 4K might not be as close as some suggest and that the 120fps Video required is not yet freely available to us. Now the OP spoke of 50 years in the future by which time we might be talking about upwards of 64-128K screens and upwards of 240-480fps video. I'm thinking that even our 36Mp RAW files ain't going to be good enough for that!! The best way to future proof (perhaps) might be to keep all original files and rebuild in 50 years time with the technology available then. That's assuming that RAW conversion will be the same in 50 years time. Who knows, the camera manufacturers might all get together and come up with one single RAW format that they can all use. Maybe DR will have improved (64 stops) as well? And before someone mentions DNG, please don't? Judging by the rate that digital photography (and video) has progressed in the last 20 years what will 50 years in the future bring? Will our 2013 files look the same in 2063 as our 1963 grainy B+Ws look to us now? 50 years ago we were only just updating our music systems to this new-fangled Stereo LP. Look where we are now (LP > Cassette tapes > Mini Discs > DAT Tapes > CDs > Digital Downloads) - where will that be in 50 years time? One step at a time and try to keep up! DG

How to create a new show using old show's .pte?
davegee replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
But with the Template you get the Project file in the list of Templates in the File Menu - like a permanent "recent files" list. You don't have to go searching for it. DG -
Adding 20 pixels as a border and adding (subtracting?) 20 pixels to the Left, Right, Top and Bottom in Canvas results in exactly the same thing as adding a 20 Pixels Inside Stroke in the Adobe Product. ....and preserves the Aspect Ratio. DG
