  1. Ken, thanks for this, as you say very handy. Kind regards Paul
  2. dave when you change fron rgb to srgb before going to save for web, does this not alter the colour of your image dramatically? Paul
  3. Hi Dave, thanks for your reply and explanation in post 15. I find though that if I follow your step no2 and convert the rgb back to srgb before using the save for web feature of photoshop then the resulting saved jpg when displayed in PTE shows a colour shift. I find though that using the save for web feature on the rgb file direct although the resulting saved jpg exhibits a colour shift, when displayed in PTe it shows no colour shift at all, and looks the same as the rgb did in CS3. Thanks for all your help Kind regards Paul
  4. Hi Dave thanks for your explanation. I would like to run something by you if I may. If I process my photo in RGB colour space in photoshop and then use your method above, you are right there is a very noticeable shift in colour to the image that gets saved. The thing I don't understand is this, when I use the new colour shifted image in PTE it then looks exactly the same as it did when I processed it as the RGB image in photoshop. So my conclusion is this, if I process an image in photoshop in the prophotoRGB colour space until I am happy with it, then use the save for web feature, save the image, although the colours have altered, if I then use this new saved image (altered colours) in PTE, it displays in PTE as the original did in photoshop. Is this how it should be, or have I not grasped something? Many thanks Kind regards Paul.
  5. Hi after further investigation I might have found what the problem is, I would appreciate it if someone could confirm if it might be the cause. My original photo was saved in the prophoto rgb colour space, when I conveted this to srgb working colour space I get the difference in colours as shown in the PTE photo. If this is the problem, does this mean that photographs used in PTE can only be saved in the srgb colour space and not any other? Kind regards Paul
  6. Hi I have just inserted an image into a new show I am beginning to make, The image when inserted into PTE is a completely different colour to when viewed in windows, photoshop etc. This has never happened to me before. I am using PTE 5.6.3 I have an Nvidia geforce 7600gs video card. My monitor is calibrated with a Spyder 3 Elite calibration system. I have uploaded 2 images showing the difference, especially noticeable in the stonework of the church and the colour of the grass. Is there anybody that can point me in the right direction to help solve this problem, any help would be very much appreciated, as I say I have never had this problem before with this set up. Kind regards Paul
  7. Hi Xaver, thanks for carrying out your tests. Please forgive my ignorance but I'm not too clever on software matters, does this mean that Audacity, Irfanview and PTE are not configured in the software to allow the front and rear speakers to work together? Many thanks Kind regards Paul
  8. Hi thanks for the replies, I didn't think it was really a problem with p2e. kind regards Paul
  9. Hi not sure if this is anything to do with p2e or not, but any help would be appreciated. I have a 5.1 surround sound speaker set up attatched to my pc. If I play an mp3 in windows media player the music comes out of 4 speakers ie 2 front and 2 rear (also the same if I play a video in quick time), If I then add this same mp3 to p2e and then play back the created exe the music only comes from the 2 front speakers and nothing from the 2 rear. Is this how it should be, or should the sound come from all 4 speakers, or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks Kind regards Paul
  10. Hi Dave sorry for the misunderstanding, thanks for taking the time to put me right. By the way it's the first time I've been accused of talking sense! I'm off to tell the wife! Thanks to Ken also. Sometimes it's difficult to 'hear' what people are saying when it's only written down. Kind regards Paul
  11. On the funny side of things I wouldn't be writing this except for ELCB's ~ I have lost count of the number of near 'misses' I have incurred in my Business ~ sad to say many Electricians haven't been so lucky. Brian I am very glad indeed that you are still here to be able to contribute to this forum, I always enjoy and find very helpful the things that you have to say. Kind regards Paul
  12. Hi Dave sorry you feel this is pointless, that's probably my fault, i'll be careful which topics I take part in in future. kind regards paul
  13. Hi Brian you are quite correct about the premises themselves needing to have a safety certificate, but that is to ensure that the electrical installation itself is safe, not any electrical appliances that are plugged into them, that is where PAT testing comes in, to make sure the appliances themselves are safe to use. Let's say, for example, you go into some premises with your extension lead and or any other electrical equipment and because you have arrived late you ask someone to help you set up, and although highly unlikely, but it still does happen that whilst plugging in something to the socket the plug top falls off and the person gets across the supply and receives an electric shock, no one would want that to happen, and PAT testing is there to try and reduce the risk of this happening. Whilst thinking about this, it raises another question in the back of my mind, and perhaps someone with a greter knowledge of these things could give the correct answer, if the above scenario occurs and the person who has received the electric shock decides to sue you, does the premises insurance cover you, or would you have to have your own public liability insurance? Kind regards paul
  14. Hi Brian I'm not sure that what you are saying is altogether true, please forgive me if I have misunderstood what you have said in your previous post, the following is just an example of what I have found in my work. I am an electrician living in the UK and I have been involved with PAT testing (portable appliance testing) in factories, offices, universities and various other places of work. the customer's usually request this to comply with health and safety regulations and because their insurance companies require it, and in the case of the general public having access to these appliances, it is to make sure that they are safe to use. Depending on what type of appliance is tested, depends on how often the appliance is tested. When we go into a factory say, the appliances belonging to the company have to be tested, and if employees of the company have brought in any electrical appliances from home, a portable radio or kettle for example the company insist that the appliances are tested or that they take the appliances home, again because of health and safety and insurance requirements. It is amazing what you do come across by the way, Brian you are quite right about the various manufacturers marks but the PAT testing covers the damage we as consumers might have caused since it left the manufacturers. For example, damaged flexes, broken plug tops, bare wires, loose wires, wrong size fuses, all of which can be a danger to the public. Mike, you should be able to find an electrician locally (local paper, yellow pages perhaps) who has a PAT tester who will be able to test your equipment and furnish you with the necessary paperwork. As to cost, well how long is a piece of string. I have heard of prices between £1.50 - £4 per item, usually depending on how many items need to be tested, if you could get the items to them that may also make it cheaper. Not sure if this helps, or that I have explained myself very well. kind regards paul
  15. Dave thanks for the info on the show playing on your monitor, and for the info on interpolation, things are a little clearer now. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Kind regards paul
  16. Hi well I don't really know what to say, except thank you for all your kind comments, they are very much appreciated. Jim so it's you sending all the geese and snow, is it? as to your kind offer to send some more, thanks but no thanks Maureen we are looking forward to coming up to your neck of the woods for our hols later in the year, please save us some good weather Many thanks again Kind regards paul
  17. David and Peter thanks for your replies. The reason I asked this question was because when I had created the show at the size and aspect ratio mentioned, when I played it on my laptop with the same aspect ratio, but smaller resolution 1440x900 it fitted without any part of the slide being missing, which is not what I expected, so it looks like it as you said Peter, it down samples it to fit the smaller resolution monitors. This raises anorther question, Does this mean that when the show is downsampled it loses some of it's original picture quality? kind regards Paul
  18. Hi I'm not sure I've grasped things as i should have, so a few pointers would be very much appreciated. I have just created a show to fit the optimum resolution of my monitor (1680x1050) pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio and have set the following in the 'project option/screen' tab Fixed size of slide (in pixels) is checked, Aspect ratio of a slide 16:10 Size of slide 1680 x 1050. My question is this, because I have checked fixed size of slide at 1680x1050 pixels, does this mean that the created show will play at that size on all monitors whether their resolution is greater or smaller? ie on larger resolution monitors there will be a larger black border, or on a smaller resolution monitor that a part of the slide in the show will be missing. Kind regards Paul
  19. Hi, I live in Milton Keynes in the UK, this is a city that is renowned for it's traffic roundabouts and concrete cows! This is just a little show of some photographs that my wife and I have taken, most of them within a few miles from home, the rest within at most a couple of hours on days out. The show is about 4 minutes long, approximately 14mb in size at a resolution of 1680x1050 (16:10 aspect ratio) and can be downloaded from the following link. Hope you enjoy, please if you have the time let me know what you think. Kind regards Paul http://digitalvault.bt.com/invite/login?c=...=mg〈=en
