  1. Thank you Jean Charles! All I can say is it brought life to your presentation! Dick
  2. Abolutely amazing. Entrancing images, and the score was outstanding. You credited Jack Wall for the sound work... Did he compose it specially for your AV, or did you clip some of his compositions? (I hope I am not exposing my very limited repertoire with this question...) At the risk of being a little commercial here, it strikes me that the Tourism Department of Iceland would very much like to license use of this program to encourage others to visit Iceland!!! I imagine if you created an mp4 video, the high performance demands on the video display adapter could be reduced... A veritable achievement Jean-Charles! Thanks for sharing it with us! Now how do I get to Iceland from here... hmmm.... Dick
  3. Oops Ken, I may have led you astray... All I have is a cable adapter that plugs into the DVI connector on the TV (And the Macbook Pro) and provides a socket for the hdmi cable... Here is where I got it. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&p_id=2029&seq=1&format=2 Our satellite receiver (Shaw Direct - formerly known as Starchoice) does not have an hdmi connector, so this was the only way to get the HD output... Very simple solution... Dick
  4. My satellite receiver only has a DVI output. (no HDMI) I am using a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect to the HDMI connector on my Sony KDL-37XBR6 and it delivers 1920X1080 resolution. Separate cables deliver the sound channels. And I have successfully connected a Macbook pro to an HD TV using the same adapter. But I cannot confirm what resolution the TV was using except to see that the slideshow was showing full 16:9 display on the screen. Don't know if this helps... Dick
  5. Hi DaveG No real change on image quality from my last comment. Created 1920X1080 resolution images, and made a short slide show with them. Both VGA and HDMI connections worked fine, filling the HD screen very nicely. The HDMI images were crisper than the VGA ones as expected, but the VGA images were quite presentable and would look perfectly ok if you did not have the HDMI images to compare to. Dick
  6. Hi DaveG Never tried that before. The VGA connection is quite good actually. TV is Sony 37" Bravia XBR6, Dell XPS 1530 uses a Nvidia 8400 gs display controller. I thought VGA was 640X480. The Nvidia control program confirmed that the Sony TV (Second monitor to the Dell) was set to 1920X1080 resolution. So somebody is upsizing... Must be the Nvidia controller? The point is when I ran the slide show via the VGA connection, the image was blown up to the maximum possible... My 3:2 images were sized to 1280X853, and of course the TV was 16:9. The HDMI connection displayed exactly the same size, but the images were quite a bit sharper and perhaps a little more contrasty... Hard to tell actually. And of course the sound was sent to the TV also. Lesson is the VGA connection would be quite adequate to show the slideshows... That is not the case with the s-video however... Tried that too while I was at it... Hope this addresses your question... Dick
  7. Yes. But I don't think you need 1920X1080 resolution on the laptop screen. That is what I do with my Dell XPS 1530 laptop. I don't know if the format is indeed HD 'quality' per se, but the image quality on my 37" LCD is stunning. My XPS's resolution is only 1280X800, but to keep to the 3:2 aspect ratio of my camera, I resize my images to 1280X851 pixels. Because the image aspect ration is 3:2 rather than the standard HD 16:9, I set my slide size to 95% to provide a border (black) all around the images regardless of what aspect ratio display the slide show runs. So it looks fine on my 16:10 laptop as well as my 16:9 TV. And now with PTE5.7.x, I can easily attach a 2 pixel white border on each image dressing up the image nicely without extensive PP work. Hope this helps... Dick
  8. Interesting. I had the same occurence with PTE 5.7.5! Music stopped 1 second before the end of the clip! Opened Audacity, checked the file and it played perfect! I noticed my windows 7 system indicated it was 3 min 24 seconds long. After much trial and error, I decided to re export the mp3 from Audacity, and be darned if the length of the clip changed to 3 min 25 sec! Now the clip plays correctly in my slideshow! Original clip was bought via iTunes, and converted to mp3 in iTunes... Wonder if there is a difference between iTune's mp3 codec and the Lame codec used in Audacity?
  9. Yes Ken! I was wondering the same thing. I often attach music clips to specific slides in an entire show... Just choose the Music tab in customize slides, select the music and away she goes??? When the music ends, choose another slide, and attach another clip??? Dick
  10. Hi Carol, I've been using Windows 7 RC (32 bit) for a few weeks now, and my exe's are not delayed in starting... As Peter mentioned, could it be your AV scanning? I use Avira... Wonder if there is any difference between Win 7-32 and Win 7-64? Dick
  11. Hi Igor! Most impressive! I am looking forward to the font issue. I am always worried that my carefully annotated slideshow will not display on someone else's computer because they do not have the same font sets that I have! Also I'm interested in the executable for the Mac... I take it you are looking to an executable that will run on native OSX and not a MAc running windows? I know a lot of Mac users that would be excited about that! PTE is still the finest image quality in producing slide shows! Dick
  12. Patrick, A great travelogue! Isn't it grand how PTE has grown into such a platform for creative people to present their experiences. After watching Barry's piece on Australia last week, and now your piece on Namibia, we have a desire to visit the world. Here in in the prairies of central Canada, we have white and black in the winter, and green and yellow in the summer. The colors in this presentation are so different to us and are truly spectacular! The contrasts between the vegetation and their backgrounds of sand and mountains are awesome! Your choice of music fit the program perfectly. And the pace of the program with short durations and long transitions are going to change my way of making presentations! Now to invite friends over to watch a great slideshow! Merci! Dick
  13. Jean Pierre, Magnifique! I can't stop calling my friends to come and see this! You have raised the bar - pas de question! Dick

  15. Steve, Looks like I may have steered you astray here. PhotoME shows metadata attached to the file. I always thought it could add/edit information to an image file. I generally use it to examine image files after processing them with Idimager my main DAM (Digital Asset Management) program. After reading your comment, I examined a jpg file that had been downloaded, but not synchronized with Idimager. I was surprised to see I could not edit some of the text fields - like title for example. After synchronizing the image file (adding the keywords, captions and other information in Idimager) PhotoME then showed clearly all the metadata edits I had done, and each field was then available to edit. It's worth a quick download to look at, but it appears one cannot add information to a jpg file until it has already been modified by a DAM program... This deserves more study, but I may have led Mary down the wrong path... By the way, I was not talking about merging iptc data with exif data. AFAIK, adding or editing IPTC data to an image file does migrate to the EXIF??? Don't know for sure. Dick
  16. Hi Mary, I use Idimager for all my metadata editing, but have you looked at PhotoME? http://www.photome.de/ Dick
  17. Not sure if this addresses your question... But current beta 5.6 creates h.264 compatible mp4 files that play very nicely on Mac's and iPhones... Still need PC to make the slideshow, but output file plays very nicely with Quicktime.
  18. Awesome! Your cousin must be very happy to have such a nice record of her wedding day! Thanks for sharing, Dick
  19. What a fine presentation. We were particularly impressed by the "models/Actors?". Looks like such a happy family wedding! Thank you so much Dom, Dick
  20. Dear Igor, Xaver, and all, Not sure, but I think the fog is lifting. Frames, masks rectangle have a default size - In Igor's terms a native size. When added to a slide they appear in their native size - BUT are compressed to fit the selected screen size. eg. with a 5:4 screen, 1280X1024 the frame for example, at it's 10000X8000 default frame size is compressed to fill the entire 1280X1024 screen. Size - 1280x1024 - position 0,0. But that does not change it's native size which is 10000x8000! Now add an child image 1024x768 for example. PTE now changes the size of the image as it appears relative to the 10000x8000 frame! So it compresses the 1024x768 image smaller in its new 10000x8000 frame environment. (not 1280x1024 environment) That is why adding Peter's 1600x1200 image to what I thought was a 1280x1024 frame resulted in a reduction of the image size. I was thinking that putting a 1600x1200 image in a 1280x1024 frame would crop or resize downward. But no! The 1600x1200 image was really being dropped into a 10000x8000 frame, (so the image was reduced in size) and then the 10000x8000 frame plus its 1024x768 child image were then compressed to fill available 1280x1024 screen! Phew. I think I will let Igor get on with his work without nattering from me with more silly questions... Thanks all for clearing this up. Now I'll go back and test these assumptions. Dick
  21. Hi Igor. This size and position business is way over my knowledge level and utility... My slideshows are much simpler, and they work fine... But I would like to understand this issue with JPD and fh1805... Davegee suggested I try this... Please set Fullscreen, 5:4 and add a 1280x1024 image. In O&A right click on the image title on the right hand side and delete it to leave a plain black background. Add a frame and if yours behaves the same as mine you should see, in Size/Position, 1280x1024 for Size and two zeros for position. I did this with beta 4, and it worked exactly as he experienced. But when I examined the Properties Tab in O&A, the size was 10000X8000. So I downloaded B5 tonight and got the same results. I tried something else tonight. Same approach. Loaded the white 1280x1024 image. Clicked on O&A and size/position. Size = 1280x1024, and position 0,0. Selected the Properties tab, and the size values size showed 10000X8000. Now I clicked on Mask, again selected the white 1280X1024 image, and loaded it. It covered the orginal image on the top of the stack. Selected Size and position, and it showed 1280X1024 and a position of 0,0. Right. Then I clicked on the Position hyperlink, and it changed to 10000X8000 - the value shown in size values shown in the properties tab. So am I right in assuming that the Size must be preset in the properties before clicking on the size hyperlink? That this is the way to set up the mask size? Dick
  22. Yes indeed. exactly the same behaviour. But reading earlier entries from Peter, although the addition of the frame indeed produced a 1280X1024 frame, selecting it and looking at the properties tab the frame is shown as size 10000X8000??? Does this info really refer to the frame I just created? Dick
  23. Ok. Not sure I completely understand. But on my native 1280 X 1024 monitor, Set full screen and 16 x 9 DVD. I cannot create a frame without at least one slide on the slide list. That may be obvious, but since I am new to this and I want to understand... Created a black image exactly 1920 X 1200, and added it to the list. I selected the image, and went to Objects and Animation. With the black slide selected, and size position displayed, adding a frame shows 1152 X 720 and a position of 64, 0. with the black slide unselected, and adding a frame on top of the black slide, adding a frame shows 1280X720 and a position of 0,0, Now with a frame and the original black slide shown in the list, I select the black slide again, and add a frame as a child of the black 1920X1200 slide, and I get a size of 1920X1200 and a position of 0,60. Don't know if this helps... I have no idea of what is going on here... Dick
  24. Just to add my two cents... Works smoothly on my Acer Q6600 2gb Core2 Quad Nvidia 8600 with 256mb ram. Works jittery on Dell XPS1530 3gb laptop Core2 Duo Nvidia 8400 with 128mb ram. Clearly I should have upgraded to the 8600 when I bought it last spring. But more importantly, thank you so much for the backup zip. I've been struggling to try and understand all the issues with original size and masks. With your demo at least I have something to work with seeing how it is done. Clearly I have more studying to do.... Dick
  25. Hey! Never did that before! Setting the priviledge level does the trick! I just noticed that you have to run pte5.6 as admin all the time, not just for the install process! Ah.. Igor will have this fixed in no time, but it's nice to see the new features of 5.6 right away! I can see lots of MAC users interested now that they can distribute an MP4 instead of an .exe that does not work in the Mac OS. And the mp4 is quite a bit smaller than the old way with avi's...
