  1. 1) I also support that the user can choose some basic settings before starting a project. This can be, a fixed number of parameters that are introduced, ex. duration 4 seconds, fade time: 3 seconds, collection of images, video and audio, etc. Many of today's software starts with a welcome screen where the user has to answer some questions. What would you do? - Create a new project * A standard project (with a fixed number of parameters) * An advanced project (custom settings for advanced users) Enter name of project A folder is created in users "Documents" with the project name - To work on a recent, existing, project - A project with template - Reference to Help 2) One can not avoid it, PTE will be easier to use, when objects can be presented in a visual way, preferably on multiple timelines. The use of other programs, to make an audio mix, should be avoided or even expelled. Objects such as images, videos, music, voiceover, sounds and effects must be easily positioned and moved on the timelines. For many people the current sound capabilities in PTE are still unworkable because of the non-visual presentation. 3) About Peter's post #15 Workload on the translators: The English context-sensitive help is already there in the language ini-files of PTE. All the sentences have been translated by most of the translators as far as I know. I follow the translation in French and I did it myself in Dutch. Only a few of those tool-tips and pop-ups have been used so far, there is a lot more. (It's a list of about 23 pages of printed text) Cor
  2. That's what you get when you forget your line : "No offence meant to any forum members " Anyway, as always, great pictures Barry . Cor
  3. The advantage I see with "Backup with ZIP" is that the file is saved on the location I want it to be. And the file has a date and hour in the name, ex.: Project1_Apr22-2011_10-14-14 Can be of use as a record file. Anyway, about the date and hour, the template file that is stored in "PicturesToExe\Templates" has also this information in the Windows explorer. Maybe Igor could merge those two function as one. Greetings, Cor
  4. To Igor, About PTE 7.0 beta 5 1) I noticed some strange behaviour in "Objects and Animation" see It occurs when you close the program with a smaller window of "Objects and Animation" then the screen at that moment. When you re-open PTE and go to "Objects and Animation" and make the window bigger, then you get the strange windows. To remove the windows you must close PTE again. 2) "Objects and Animation"| "Animation" tab, in the drop down menu, there is 2 times "Linear" Speed Options, Setting up..., Templates... there is also 2 times "Linear". When you push "Reset to default" it goes away. see Thank's Cor
  5. To Igor, Some small issues. 1) Is it normal that the "remove" - "X" button is moved over other buttons as "Objects and Animation" when the main screen is reduced? See extract: 2) In "Adjust Video and Border" the title reads "Adjust Image and Border" See extract: 3) Project Options | More the word "Additionally" can not be translated See extract: Thanks, Cor
  6. Hello Igor, I understand that for some applications, the new navigation bar can be very useful. Everything depends on what kind of AV you have in mind. If you make AV which are synchronised to the rhythm of the music, or documentaries that tell a story, then I think that you don't need the navigation bar for playing the AV. Because in this case, you as a creator want that the audience will see the integral show without interruption. In this I can understand Barry as I see what kind of AV he makes. The navigation bar is a great asset in marketing for PTE, I understand this very well. On the other hand, if you want to activate this feature by default, then a lot of users will have to get used to turn the feature off, including me. But I can live with it. Cor
  7. To Igor, If you could improve things more, make the working of those options more time saving, more dynamic,... You have my vote for these. You and your team have worked very hard. We have a lot of improvements to try out, new features to play with, to test out. To avoid confusion. Please keep the names in the program as it is today. A lot of people are happy with it, or more or less happy with it. That's my opinion. Cor
  8. Whatever new names we choose, I believe that the logic in the program must be preserved. When we are going to nominate key functions such as "Cover slide" different than the actual process really is, then new users will be totally lost. "Cover slide" is completely different than what is meant by "Cover screen". I have no objection to change names but they have to remain logical. The context of "parent and child" is rather logical to me. This is a statement with a rather thin argument. Every software has a learning curve. There are manuals in different languages, as a user you have to read it. If someone is interested enough there is this forum and there are very well known forums in other languages also. I have started from scratch one day and I learn everyday. Something to think about: What right do someone have to see an "average user" or "a beginner" as an illiterate person who does not understand a thing. Sometimes I have the impression that some people are completely lost in their own world. And by the way, I see myself as "an average user". Cor
  9. I agree with davegee. What one see in Options & Animations is the background of the container, in PTE called the "slide". The background that you see is black (or no color), but one can give it any color via Screen/Background or Customize Slide/Use own background preference. The slide (the container) can have one or more objects, picture(s), videoclip(s), photograph(s), map(s), text, or whatever you call the objects that can be used. If you want to see the difference between the background of the container and the screen, go to Project Options/Screen. If your display is 4:3 put the aspect ratio of a slide to 16:9, or vice versa. Put Background/Solid Color to ex. red. Put in Additional Options/Color outside slide area to ex. green. Confirm with OK. Start Preview and you can see clearly which is what: Red is the background of the Slide (container) and the green area is the Screen. To Igor, I personally feel that we now have to continue with the name, slide. One can see the container as a slide mount, which can contain both images and video. The Dutch translation of PTE for version 7.0 is now adapted that way, "slide" is translated to "dia". Any possible confusion with the words "image" ("beeld", "afbeelding") and "picture" ("foto") are avoided that way. Cor
  10. Hi Xaver, I can only speak for the Dutch translation. You are right that "Afbeelding" as a translation for "Slide" and/or "the image container" may be confusing now. However, this situation has grown with the evolution of PTE. Several versions ago, I made the choice to translate "Slide" to "Afbeelding", because I found that not only slides but also other objects could be imported and used (photographs, maps, backgrounds, etc.). With the fast development of PTE and the many technical possibilities that are added and will continue to be added, there must be a consistent way to decide which English names and/or descriptions will be given to important elements in the program. This mainly to avoid confusion. Translation, although in some instances, remains a compromise in finding the right words. One can try to be technical as accurate as possible. I therefore believe that Igor and his team will have to, in addition to the layout, consistently determine which keywords will be used in the program. If they decide not to change anything, that's OK with me, but it will have implications in some translations. Therefore I asked the question. Greetings, Cor
  11. 1) It is not the intention to start a controversy. It's just a simple reflection. For several years I have tried to provide a good translation of the program in Dutch. I follow the developments of PTE and other programs fairly well. Now I wonder whether we can continue to use the term "slide" as a description. The "slide list" of the new version will probably also contain video footage and then I find the description "slides" on buttons and elsewhere in the program rather poor. PTE has evolved from a "slideshow" program to a universal AV program, so the correct names should also be considered. We will use video footage, images of all types, backgrounds, titles with transparent background, etc. Should we not generally speak of objects, given the diversity of the elements that one can use and add in the program? 2) About the new layout: For me it's OK when it looks simple and it's intuitive. 3) Question for Igor: Will there be a color code on the "slides" in the "slideslist" when an object is linked to a "slide"? Ex. highlighted in red or green or other color. The currently selected "slide" is blue in your example. Or will there be an other indication? Regards, Cor
  12. Hello to All, In my opinion the option is in the right place (properties). Other name suggestion: "Anti-Moiré (low quality)" With warning message at the side of the option: "To avoid this option for normal use, only usefull when moiré shows up during animation." Greetings, Cor
  13. Hello Igor & All members, Name it as you say: "Preserve hard edges" (no interpolation) It's just what you see as a result. In Dutch it would be: "Gekartelde randen behouden" (geen interpolatie) Greetings, Cor
  14. To Igor, Thank you. Greetings, Cor
  15. Hello Dave, I have followed your example and the result is no music at all and no waveform. See and It is very strange, I tried also an other hierarchy to put the tracks, the music. I tried with an existing project, a new project, reset the defaults, etc. All of no succes. The music must be there because I see the red "music end" line But the only way I can see the waveform and hear the music is with only one track to mix the music. Greetings, Cor
  16. Hello Jean, I only can have a good result, when I put the pieces of music on one track, then the mix of music will play fine. See and The mix with more then one track is still not working I think in PTE 6.5 Beta 6. Greetings, Cor
  17. All's well that ends well. Thanks Ken
  18. Renewal post today 11:01 AM: Hello Igor, Just for your info. I noticed some minor flaws in the layout of PTE 6.5 Beta 6, Dutch language setup and some languages other then English: - Project Options, Music (Dutch: Projectopties, Muziek/Geluid) When you add a second track (or more then one track) with the corresponding music, close the window with OK, re-open the window again, there is some mix up of the layout (see picture 1) All is well with only one track. picture 1: - There is a mix up of the title on some buttons (see picture 2), or the title is not in the middle of the button anymore. picture 2: Greetings, Cor
  19. Hello Ken, I adapted the pictures in the original post. Is it working now? Thanks in advance. Cor
  20. To thedom and Ken Cox, Second try. Thanks for your interest. Sorry for any inconvenience. Greetings, Cor
  21. Hello, These is some strange behavior with the "Set Defaults" button in "Project Options - Music" of PTE 6.5 Beta 6. Pressing the "Set Defaults" button, removes every input, but after that the screen freezes completely (buttons are not working anymore). One has to leave the window and reopen it to continue. In PTE v6 it is still possible to make an other choise with the button "Add music". before after Greetings, Cor
  22. My opinion: Working on a project, saving it, reopening it: The project must show with the last used settings. Starting a new project: The program must start with "basic" settings, ex. among others "Horizontal View" or "Classic View". Greetings, Cor
  23. Hello Argo, I have no problem in PTE v6 with the TTF fonts. Not with Algiers, not with Bard. See screenshot Bard: Greetings, Cor

Really a sad day! All my sympathy to his wife, children and family. Jean-Pierre was an incredible talent with an analytic mind. I've learned a lot of his contributions to this forum and the forum Diapositif which he was the inspirer. His contribution to the development of PTE has been enormous. Regards Cor
  25. Hello to All, I hope it will be not like that! Automatic reducing in volume when the commentary comes in is impossible, maybe technically possible, but not on a creative way. Every piece of music is different, I'm not even talking about volume, where to fade in/out, a linear fade, drag up to create a quick, smooth logarithmic fade, or drag down to create a long, smooth exponential fade, etc. The reducing in volume must be done manually adaptable, specially with narration. I'm sorry to say, but this kind of automation will never work with a voice over. You will always have problems to link the music in a proper way with your voice over. Your fade will always come too early or too late. Why always want automation? AV is not band work. To create dynamic mixes, it is best to use keyframes in the tracks. With the keyframes, linear transitions can create a smooth, gradual change in the music, and bring the narration volume in a right way. I hope that Igor will take the right decision about this mather. Greetings, Cor
