  1. Peter, Google aquired Youtube for $1.65 Billion. Along with that, comes a fairly large legal team. You can be sure they know their small print. The IAC on the other hand, are not sure exactly of all the ins and outs of copyright law, but they do know somebody down the pub,who probably does. They tried to sell me a licence once. About as much use as a chocolate chastity belt. Eric, You sold out to the man.Now the corporates are making revenue from you by advertising on the back of your AV.Shame on you. The music recognition system they use now is pretty sophisticated. Not perfect though and it is possible to circumvent it, if you are that way inclined. Davy
  2. Eric, Think audio levels adjustment in video is due in PTE 7.5 not sure though. For Video, you can use Avi Demux (freebie prog) to adjust audio levels. for the still images, use the cheapskates sound editor of choice,Audacity or from within PTE. Maybe exporting all the sound files into Audacity will give you the most options to fine tune your audio mix. Davy
  3. Eric, Might as well go for the Dead Cat at £3.99 inc delivery from China, courtesy of FleaBay. Pretty much on par with the Olympus. I guess we will just have to get used to Video Nasties. Davy
  4. Eric, Sounds like your Olympus recorder has automatic gain control on.... Nasty. Quality is not great, but if you are happy with it,then no need to get a decent microphone. Your local music shop should let you try out different mics though. You can better gauge if thats the route to take and if so,what best suits you and your pocket. Don't expect miracles though, from cheapo mics. Rubish in,rubbish out,is the old saying. Davy
  5. “This is a nice play with words, bravo. What about playing this kind of game in the German language?” There is a Deutsch section in the forum. A little redundant yes,but even at that, I am going to have to wade through my 9 disc box set of Michel Thomas Foundation German Course just to ask, about directions to the Oktoberfest. I can’t answer for Brian or the vagaries of the PTE program. For that, you would have to contact the authors directly. My only suggestion would be that you do so from the English side of the forum, where it will stand a fair chance of being read. It is pleasing and reassuring to know that you continue to persevere with Teutonic rigour behind the scenes,in the furtherance of Igor’s creation. I could have a listen to Michel Thomas tonight,or possibly just start the bottling process of 5 Gallons of Gewurztraminer.Decisions,Decisions. BTW: Xaver, I did not bother trying to correct your omissions and typo errors. It’s a fairly pointless exercise, don’t you think? Davy.
  6. Xaver, My answer was based solely on information supplied in the original post, which indicated a frame rate of 29.97fps. There are known issues with sync and vbr audio with some video programs. The other suggestion I made, was to decouple unwanted interaction between the combined streams. Tom found out about the increased frame rate discrepancy and Brian offered a solution for this. I do appreciate your efforts in trying out, what was to be,a 'fruitless exercise' though. Davy
  7. Orizaba, Can you try changing the audio on the video from variable bit rate to constant bit rate. If that won't work, try copying the audio only and insert that as an audio track into your project. Make sure to mute sound on the video. An unrelated item. I recently asked people on the forum to vote for their favourite AV and your 'One Day in August' got a mention. It's in the AV downloads section. 'The best ever AV.It's your call' Davy
  8. Brian, This has been a very interesting and amusing thread at times. Yes I call cd audio wav files as most of us do, wrongly. We know what it is though, AVI is just a container and most people don't get that. The Fraunhofer peeps were pretty clever all things considered. Not infallible though and back to the point I had made. You can't strip away chunks of data and magically bring it back. Ray had stated that he was running in stereo mode.None of the Dolby effects and as the usb input will accept mp3 audio I would have thought playback at a higher bitrate from a ripped audio CD would be the better way to go. Well,at least a try. Davy
  9. Brian, Maybe I haven’t read all the threads, but up sampling from 128 kbs, to 192 kbs does not replace missing data. It just makes for a bigger file. You would need the original wav file to do a meaningful conversion/comparison. Re-recording from the wav file to 192 kbs is still on the low side as far as quality is concerned. For some, it does not matter and they struggle to hear the difference. It has spoiled a few AVs here though. I am no ‘expert’, but I would put your your 192 kbs threshold to one side and go with 256 kbs cbr (reduced levels of course) at least to start off with. Cool you worked for Sony way back in the 60's Davy
  10. Hi Ray, Sounds like the input to your usb is a little too sensitive and is being overloaded from the audio side of your mp4. Distortion heard on the peaks is the waveform being clipped. If you have no means to limit the audio within your TV menu, then you will have to reduce audio levels on your mp4 file for your TV in future. There may be a firmware update for your TV. I would check that out. Sound quality through your Sony will never be that good,as is the case with most Flat screen units. Miss Westerna’s voice is a challenge for most high end music systems and no doubt the recording engineer. There is some distortion (not clipping though), compression and smoothing, both natural and processed on your recording, but I would put that down to the recording engineer/equipment and the mp3 conversion. In it’s raw state and with enough volume you could etch glass with her voice! If you wanted to check the output visually for distortion, rather than just put trust in your ears, you could record to your pc via the audio out from your TV. Play the captured audio back via Audacity and check the waveform. Simply zoom in on the audio peaks. If all is good there will be no flattened tops. If you see flattened tops (clipping) then your recording is distorted. You would need to experiment with your recording levels, by gradually reducing audio until the clipping disappears. As a ballpark figure, I would start at around -3db. Brians’ lower output version is around 4.3 db below your original audio file. The experts can guide you with regards to Audacity,as I never use it. Davy
  11. Ronnie, Use the output jack socket from the imac to feed your PC speakers. There should be an output jack on the imac. Might need to select output to speakers from within the the mac. The output jack is all you need to hook up too. Davy.
  12. Ronnie, Just to be sure, are you using the external PC speaker system with the imac? Or are you referencing the imac via it's own speakers,in comparison to the PC sound system? If it's via the imac speakers try hooking up to the PC speakers instead. If you need a new speaker setup on the cheap, that old circa 1970s amp and speakers that are hiding in the loft can work wonders. Have to keep them out of sight though. I know you mac guys are all about style. For critical listening you could try a good quality set of monitor headphones (keeps the neighbours happy too). Davy
  13. Aginum, A superb AV. The photos enhanced with your treatment and presentation. Davy If anybody is wondering where that naughty little bear Phil went to. He magically reappeared on the Wizard of OZ forum, where he proceeded to offer the following advice to one of the members there. ‘Should it transpire that you can't get an answer here, there is a very active Pictures to Exe Forum where most problems seem to get sorted out. Unfortunately, there is a degree of "You tell me how nice my show is, then I'll do the same for you" and a certain amount of boys talking about their latest photographic jewellery which you may have to trawl through. But among the dross/trivia is a lot of very helpful information. Be warned though that if you seek help there, about the first thing which will be suggested is that you get the current (v7.0.5) version.’ What a helpful little bear.
  14. Bill, I was one of the ‘Either Way’ voters. My apathy vote has got to count for more than one, yes/no vote. Most people haven’t bothered responding. That’s the silent majority for you. Maybe it has passed the stage, where tweaks or policy changes will make any real difference to Beechbrook. I do download AVs from your site, but no way would I upload there again. instead I use and recommend Mediafire for both uploads and downloads, but I am sure Dropbox, is equally as good. Davy.
  15. Rick, Thanks for listing your equipment/settings. Photo quality is superb and all the more impressive being hand held. I would have been struggling with a tripod. Davy
  16. Rick, Roadster Heaven. One super show. Well done. Davy
  17. Geoff, That's 2 votes for 'Ride to the Wall'. Howard captured some special moments with this show. The thing I also like about Howard, is his attention to the audio side of things too. It makes all the difference to an AV. Davy
  18. Xaver, Two excellent shows. Of the two, the first one is a stand out piece.Just so well engineered. Morturn, Am going to have to seek your hit list out. Thanks. Davy
  19. Anthony, It was Orizaba, One Day in August. a super show and one that changed my mind about having a show last more than 7 minutes. About 158mb and I think it lasted about 19 mins. Page 12 of our AV pages, but Show has been removed. Think Orizaba fell out with the forum after his next AV. Think I still have 'One Day in August'. Davy
  20. Ken, Got a 'Not Found' on your Fave AV link. Davy
  21. My favourite show was ‘A Late Christmas’, by Drareg. Page 30 of our AV files.posted 30th December 2008. http://www.foto-beeld.nl/presentaties/x-mass-card.exe The download link is still working. Thanks Drareg. Davy
  22. Sorry Ken, What did I start? Still I am finding this interesting. Some shows I know,as put forward by Mick and Eric, but not from bjc. I have to put my hand up,to own up to, ‘Days of Our Lives’. It should still be here. http://www.mediafire.com/?mjyvjrzejzu Thanks Guys and for your favourites and the nomination from Gayland. I'm filling up like Gwyneth Paltro at the oscars Davy
  23. I never got to see 'The Grand Tour'.It must have been a good one. My favourite, well I can't even remember the title. It was a Christmas AV with some animation. Think it was from one of the guys from the Netherlands. It featured the music of Elvis singing 'White Christmas' Maybe the title of the AV then. I thought it was really well made. Nice animated snow. Simple, but very effective. Great sense of humour too. Think it might be lurking on an old PC. Davy
  24. All, An inadvertent click on the slideshows tab whizzed me back 66 pages and back to 2003. Rather than just wiz back to the present, I started to read of some of the AV presentations. Many have vanished along with the authors. So just as a thought and if anybody feels inclined, I was wondering.....Out of all the AVs on the forum (and you can only choose 1) What has been your favourite, of all time, AV? (please don’t pick one of your own creations) You might like to state why, be it for artistic, technical, innovative reasons etc, or, you might not. Might be the time to blow the cobwebs of an aging hard drive, just in case you get a mention. Davy
  25. Maureen, I really liked your Quieter Venice. Have to agree with Patrick on the music. Still, we get 2 versions for the price of 1. Well done, Davy
