  1. As another satisfied user of the Creative Cloud Photography package, I can endorse the accuracy of the facts that Barry has given. The UK cost of the package is currently 8.57 GBP.
  2. Dave, I've been there, and for similar reasons, too. Everybody needs, occasionally, to step back from the things they enjoy and take stock of just what is important to them. As you observed, you don't need hassle from the forum. None of us do; we can get all the hassle we ever want from all the other aspects of our lives. When I dropped out of the forum you seemed to step up to the plate and fill the void. Perhaps it is now time for somebody else to fill the void that your absence will create. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy the Christmas and New Year festivities if your personal circumstances permit. Let your batteries recharge for a month or two and then see how you feel about things. I suspect you will be back, but possibly operating more as a watcher than contributor - just as I now do. regards Peter
  3. I know I'm coming late to this party but here is what I witness using PTE v8.0.14 running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I open a project which has both images and audio. Because I usually work mostly in the Slides view that is the view in which the project opens. I can use F4 or the little triangle icon to switch between the Slide List view or the "digital lightbox" (Full Screen View). Whichever of those two views I am in, clicking on the Timeline tab takes me to the usual Timeline view (with a mini-player, a track of slide thumbnails and several tracks of audio). Pressing F4 now toggles me between this normal Timeline view and the Full Screen Timeline view which by design does not have a mini-player. Pressing F4 again returns me to the normal Timeline view. The triangle icon operates in exactly the same way as the F4 key: it toggles between normal and fullscreen views of the Timeline. I can use F4 to go one way and come back with the triangle icon or I can do it the other way round. All of this is normal behaviour for PTE v 8 and it has always worked this way for me. On my system the apr.ini file is stored as follows (Note that I have Windows set to show me the hidden, and system, files and folders): C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\PicturesToExe\Versions\8.0 regards, Peter P.S.   4. I've always understood the Date to be the "Date Modified" as maintained by Windows Explorer. i.e. a date that is external to the file content.
  5. I have a wireless mouse with my laptop and use that. To control volume, a friend made me a little box that sits between the headphones-out and the cable to the loudspeakers. I believe this contains what is known as a potentiometer. Peter

Geoff, If all you want is visual confirmation that your mouse is hovering over the correct button, you can set a different colour to the text on the button. for the "hover" state, and yet another colour for when the mouse click occurs. If this is a good enough solution then you do not need to place a text layer over the button. Note that these options for different colours of text become available only after you have assigned an action to the button. Hope that makes sense. Peter
  8. Mick, I'm on Windows 7 64-bit and using PTE v8.0.14. I can hear a difference between all four tracks - just! However, I would suggest that a 5dB change in gain is a barely perceptible change. You need to bear in mind that the dB scale is a logarithmic scale: a small change in dB is a very minor change in perceived volume. If you really want to be able to hear the difference between two passages of the same music, I would suggest you need to have a dB difference of at least 10. If you are wanting to fade the music down behind a voice-over I would suggest you need to take the music down to -20dB or even lower. I tend to work in percentages and I aim for 3-5% behind voice-over. The biggest problem with using PTE for soundtrack assembly, I find, is that we cannot see the waveform or the envelope in enough detail - not even with the track height expanded to its maximum. The difference between 3% and 0% (silence) is less than the tremor of an unsteady hand!

  10. Barry, It might be worth running DxDiag on both your machine (to familiarise yourself with "how to" and with what it shows) and on the club's machine. Proceed as follows: Start button > All Programs > Accessories > RunKey dxdiag into the pop-up window and click OKIf the machine is 64-bit, click on the Run 64-bit DxDiag button when DxDiag has openedSwitch to the Display tab and note any options that are not EnabledRepeat on the other system and compare and contrast.
  11. Doesn't the vertical scroll bar at the right hand edge bring the other track into view?
  12. The odd numbers were Adobe RGB (1998) and the evens were sRGB. I'm not a professional photographer. I'm not a club photographer. I'm not interested in trying to win competitions with my work. All I want to do is produce sequences that give pleasure to the members of various local organisations. Therefore I want my images to have good visual impact. And to my eyes the sRGB ones have the better visual impact.
  13. Hi Igor, I found this "bug" when preparing my little test sequence that I submitted in the discussion about Colour Management. As always I started building with two Blank Slides (created using Alt+S). I then dropped the pair of images in and copied the pair (using Ctrl+click to select them both then Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to paste the second pair). I then set the default Text comment to show the slide number and used the Apply to all slides button to get the default applied to all slides. So far everything was as expected. I then decided that I wanted a third pair of slides, so I dragged the pair in from the File List. Again, everything was as expected. The new pair had the Text comment added automatically. Finally, I created an extra blank slide on which to place the text advice about the sequence being manually controlled. This slide did not have the Slide Number Text Comment added to it. I had to copy the Text Comment from Slide 1 onto Slide 2. I realise that I asked for a blank slide and PTE gave me exactly that. However, if I have declared that I want a Text Comment to be added to every slide, I think PTE should add that even to a new Blank slide.
  14. I am unconvinced of the value of colour profiles for AV work. I would be interested in the reaction of forum users to this little test sequence. See Dropbox link at end of post. The sequence uses just one image, but two versions of that image: one saved as sRGB JPEG and one saved as Adobe RGB (1998) JPEG. The sequence shows the images one after the other, and repeats that three times. Each slide shows its slide number as a Text comment at the top of the screen.
