True - that offer still stands

I'd be happy to add it to the PTE help section of my club's web site - there are links to this site from Guido's site and others.
-
Yes - this would be very useful for our local clubs too.
-
Yes - I'm with this one if I'm controlling the show that is a presentation rather than an "amusement". If it's for someone else to run, I'll use the navigation bar but I wish I could put it exactly where I wanted on each slide.

Al's given a good resume there. dpi, ppi, who cares? Just make the picture look right. As I'll be telling people tomorrow when I do yet another introductory technique talk for PTE at a camera club (perhaps I ought to be on commision) - for screen pixels rule OK.
-
Well, if I've understood you correctly, then all you need to do is: a. set the display time for the first slide to a very large number (600 s for 10 mins?) - "Customise slide" - "Use own time preference" b. check in Project Options - Advanced that mouse control is set (default is right-click to advance, but you can change it). c. make sure "Hide mouse cursor during show is ticked" Alternatively, simply make a one slide show with these parameters then run the rest (another show) by using "Run application after last slide" in the Project options - advanced.

is the "per inch" bit that bothered me. But don't let it bother anyone else!

ppi is irrelevant for a show to be seen on screen or via a digital projector - it only applies to printed images. Here's all you need to do: 1. decide what size in pixels you wish the iamges in your shows to be. Typically this would be your screen size - a fairly standard value is 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high. 2. resize your images to this - ignore the ppi setting. 3. save as jpg, aiming for a file size of no bigger than about 300 k per image. Quality setting 7 works well. I'll hide now before the ppi brigade start having a go! This topic has raised its head before on more than one occasion.

An interesting algorithm Brian - I'll have to test it out! If it works for me too, you'll have made my life easier.

If you have access to broadband, might I suggest that you email me the material needed to make your show - images, music and the two PTE files you made. If you wish to do this, I'll look at the two shows to sort out your misunderstanding and let you know why there is an apparent discrepancy. Please be aware that English is not the first language of many users of PTE - and the admin team - so you need to be very tactful and careful with the phrasing of your enquiries.

It was ever thus - why don't people seem to want to help, only to seek help?

I agree, Maureen. I hope Igor appreciates just how much we users appreciate all the excellent work he does on our behalf. In my experience, such software support is unique! The templates technique is a very useful "fail-safe" which I use a lot to rescue other people's mistakes! Despite my repeated advice to keep all the items needed for a particular show in a single folder, some of my "tutees" seem to be unable, or unwilling, or too impatient to follow best-practice guidelines. Very often, I can use templates to get their files back into order. The fact that, by default, these reside with the PTE program keeps them out of the way from minor tampering.

If I try to show direct from a memory stick, large files sometimes fail - I guess due to access times. My solution is always to copy to the computer's memory then I have no problems.

Barry's service is second to none. The music cd's are very good indeed if you like "small scale" stuff. It's not orchestral, but the themes are interesting and well-executed, and you can download free samples to see if it suits your needs. At the latest, heavily discounted price, they're likely to sell-out quickly. Recommended.

If you send me an EMail Address I can forward a 'Demonstration' to you ~

"OR use Photoshop to create a backgound onto which I would then place one or more images at whatever the aspect ratio happens to be. Is that correct?" - if you're mixing landscape and portrait format images, that's the best option as Barry says.
-
Very nice - I'm looking forward to trying this.

On my line - 1.1 Mbps, it took a few seconds under 8 minutes.

Barry's cd's are excellent. My tutorial is free: http://www.bishopthorpe-camera-club.com/Re...s/resources.htm

Well said - it's the lack of gimmicks plus excellent quality that I like!

I'm not going to jump in on the copyright issue as it leaves me completely baffled - and cold. As for morality, I have strong (Christian) views on this and reckon that there is often a conflict between man-made (usually/often man=male here) laws and Jesus's injunction to "Love one another". But I do agree that the facility to delete (only) ones own posts could save us from occassional on-line falling out that can occur, usually due to misunderstanding.

Just in case this confuses some, here's a technique I've found very useful. In Audacity (or Audition), start a new file, add a period of silence, then save it as mp3. Hey presto - blank music. I have a number of such files of different lengths. They are invaluable in judging the length of music that will be needed for a final show.

Narrowing the problem down a bit...
ContaxMan replied to zepperwing's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
It's always better not to run a show from a CD as the reading can be slow and mess up the timings. By all means save the show on CD for backup but copy it to the desktop for showing.
