  1. My short answer Ron is "No". I haven't come up with a system for cataloguing my digital images. All of my slides are catalogued on spreadsheets for each year, with columns for Slide No.; Date; Occasion; Place; Subject; Code; Film; and Additional comments. The Code Column contained a two letter code for the type of image. The first letter of the Code was in upper case for the type heading e.g A. People; B. Views; C. Plants/Animals etc and the second letter in lower case for a sub-division of the type e.g. Ac Elder son; Bc Seascape; Cc Wild animals etc. Since I went completely digital the immediately available images with thumbnails available wherever you look - Explorer, Photoshop, Picasa etc.- my cataloguing has fallen by the wayside. My grandson works for a firm of sports photographers. I must ask him next time I see him what software they use for cataloguing. As they must respond quickly, when they receive a request say for a picture of a star footballer, I am sure the software must be good, but unfortunately it could be pricey and possibly "a sledgehammer to crack a nut. 2. Roger I have used Roxio Easy CD Creator for making a SVCD but not having any use for it, have not done so for some time. However I did write the following, which ended up in AV World "In PTE click the VIDEO button bottom left of middle to open “Making of AVI video file”. Select SVCD, PAL/SECAM (for Europe) and Interlaced Video (recommended). Do not select Sharpness Filter. Click the Create AVI button to open ‘Save As’ box. Save the file remembering where you saved it. "On completion of the save, a box will instruct you to go to your software for creating the SVCD. Do not repeat not click the Finish button. "Open Easy CD Creator and select DVD Builder>DVD Builder Wizard. Select Create a DVD Builder and click on Next to open ‘DVD Builder Wizard’. Select SVCD and Import Files then Finish. "This opens up the DVD Builder and the selected Import Files appears in the bottom left window. Drag this file into the top right hand box of the DVD Builder. Drag the Roxio Intro into the Waste basket bottom right. Double right click on left hand side of the top right hand box for a preview in the Screening Room left. "If satisfied click on the BURN button bottom right. "On completion of the burn and all is satisfactory you can now return to PTE and click that Finish button." I am indebted to Michel who put me right on this way back in November 2003. You burn SVCD to a CDR. Ron [uK]
  3. I hope I am not classed as one of your "experts" Ron. Some of us are limited as to what we upload to Beechbrook either by size of our presentations and limitations of our licences to use copyright music. However, as I pointed out just a few posts ago, my originating post to this thread was my concern that excessive use of the effects available caused so much distraction that one had little time to appreciate the imagery. Generally, if you read through the ensuing posts, that concern has been echoed by other members of the forum. By all means champion Barry, and I wouldn't disagree that the quality of his sequences and tutorials and the provision of non-copyright music CDs is to be commended, but most of us in the UK are amateurs and seeking to improve our art. Some of the advice I have given in response to questions on the Forum (e.g. use of invisible "buttons" in the object editor)has been gleaned from members of the Forum and I have generally acknowledged that. Long may the Forum continue. Ron [uK]
  4. Yes I did enjoy it Daniel. Towards the end of the sequence there were a number of landscape images which blended well into the mood of the presentation and the music of Enya, but I think I might have left out the snow covered vehicle early in that series, but you may have had a reason for this. I liked your restrained use of the effects which are available to us, such as the push slde pan effect and the mosaic on the small window to reveal the landscape beyond. The images were excellent. Ron [uK]
  5. Amy The file you have tried to send presumably is Olivia22.exe and not Olivia.zip. Many of us have problems trying to send *.exe files. In fact I had just tried sending one myself prior to reading your post and the indications were that it had not gone out. I zipped it and all seems to be well. Could that be your problem? I know you must have WnZip installed otherwise you wouldn't be able to download the PTE programmes. Ron [uK]
  6. Merci Jean-Claude. C'est tres bien. I notice that you have extracted my comment from another thread, where I was responding to a member who had said that when using SY(P) the page curl effect had sent his computer into a tantrum. I would like to make it clear that I am more than happy with SY(P) as it is, but like all things any improvement will be a bonus. Ron [uK]
  7. I have just tried one of my recent PTE's on SY(P) and the "Page rolling down from the top" is shown as "Unknown effect in PTE 4.20". But no tantrums. Ron [uK]
  8. Thanks Roger. Whilst I use the Character Map in word processing and DTP, I didn't have the character number readily available when writing my post. I have printed out the map from the site you quote for future reference. ééé Ron [uK]
  9. I fully agree with what you have to say Robby. When I started this thread a couple of days ago, my concern was that excessive use of the effects available caused so much distraction that one had little time to appreciate the imagery, which first and foremost is what our medium is all about. Ron [uK]
  10. I agree with Gerard (sorry no e acute), SY(P) is an excellent piece of software and well worth trying. Ron [uK]
  11. You idiot Ken Ron [uK]
  12. Den Correct me if it is not what you are after, but you can join sequences together by using Project options>Advanced>Advanced Options>Run application after last slide. I know it works because I have used it. Ron [uK]
  13. Definitely introduced in Version 4.40 Beta#1. See the following extract from Igor. http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/apr_beta.zip (1,5 MB) This new version contains new transition effect. Please look at this small example: http://www.wnsoft.com/beta/RollPaper.exe (500 KB) (Also there is diagonal variaton, but it works slowely and we will improve it) Horizonta/vertical variations work fine even on Celeron 900. You also can adjust diameter and it will look as a scroll. And two styles of curling. All it - work of Aleksey which again created new transition effect! Ron [uK]
  14. Thanks Steve for trying it out and giving your findings for Lumenlux. I did upload "Intro Demo" to the Beechbrook site a couple of years ago, which demonstrates one way of using them, but there is only a written explanation at the end which explains about the hidden "buttons" beneath the images. An intro which I have used recently consists of portraits of club members around the club logo under each of which is an invisible "button" linking to their particular sequence. Ron [uK]
  15. In my opinion, one use for our presentations is to show the images which we have taken to a viewing audience. It is important therefore, in these situations, that our vision is not sent into orbit by an ever succession of different effects. So much so that by the time one's eyesight adjusts the picture has changed and its quality or interest cannot be appreciated. By all means use a particular effect for a given situation but please use it sparingly. Ron [uK]
  16. I have checked out two of the new features Igor - "Insert Slide" and "Replace Main Image" - and they worked perfectly. Thanks, they will prove very useful. Ron [uK]
  17. Hilarious!!!! Thanks Brigadier. Ron [uK]
  18. Tom All you have to do is to repeat the previous slide (or any slide for that matter) but uncheck Show Image below the Slide List window. That creates the blank for which you are asking. It doesn't need a special facility. Try it and see. Good luck. Ron [uK]
  19. Thanks Igor. Qute a neat little utility. Could have used it this morning when I re-sized 24 images from 1024 to 128. Ron [uK]
  20. Item (3) Igor, if I understand it correctly, should fit my needs, assuming that all my initial settings are basically "new slides". However, I will await Andrew's reaction as we appear to be on the same wavelength, but he should be asleep at this moment, unless he is a really early riser. Ron [uK]
  21. Sorry Tom, I do not know what you are talking about. In fact this whole thread as it relates to the timeline has got me completely bamboozled. I start my sequences in PTE with a basic template and build it up from there. I then wish to go to the Timeline and make further adjustments against the Waveform and sound. I don't want the programme to take over and reset all my Display times. Ron [uK]
  22. Thanks Den for the information on the TV Safe Zone. Ron [uK]
  23. What and where is TV safe zone? I have done a search and the only place where it is highlighted is in your recent post. Scanning back Igor writes on February 24 speacock, It's a very strange problem! Because I've added only "Show TV safe zone" option. I just sent you email with request about small testing Ron [uK]
  24. Tom I am using "Manual Show", reset to my requirements, introduced by Brian.Conflow on Sep.28 2004. Search for the thread "Manual Show". Jill Your comments tie up with my on-going request to be able to use the timeline to my initial settings and not equal spacing within the time span of the music. Ron [uK]
  25. Steve The method I use does not have highlighted relief edges but is a plain square or rectangle with no bounding edges, that is why I have put the word "button" in parenthesis as it is not a button as you might imagine but a plain image. I hope my explanation clarifies the method. Good Luck. Ron [uK]
