  1. FX. that was a great tutorial. As you are very knowledgable in the TV area - and this is way off the issue of PTE - can you recommend a good TV-tuner card for a high performance PD that I am planning to build? There may be some interest in that topic from the Forum members that are interested in getting PTE into DVD and onto a TV screen. Bill
  2. There is no question that after several thousand images on the HD, organizing becomes a real chore. I have Picasa, EXIFviewer, Photoshop Album, and don't use 'em. I rely on Photoshop CS Browser which works well. For me, the key is organizing folders accurately, not so much the image file names. Since PS Browser uses a Windows Explorer style structure in the left pane, I set up the structure as: Archive 2005 Animals San Diego Zoo 020205 Wild Animal Park 112804 Next Folder Topic Sub folder topic MMDDYY Sub folder topic MMDDYY (Sorry, I indented the subtopics, but it doesn't seem to indent in the Preview Post) At the end of each year I start a new yearly archive folder. By collapsing that folder, any clutter is eliminated for the work to start on the next archive folder. It is essential for me to show the date of each shoot. For image files, as I process the images I then save as a new name which is easily identified in Windows Explorer if I'm not in PS and can then open it from WE in PS or other image program. Finally, I make folders of individual images with a small quantity that can be covered in the Browser full screen, 30 - 40 images. Where I am shooting 2-300 images in a day (typical) I break the folders down to managable size for viewing on browser. Since I will process only 5-10% of the days shooting, I don't worry about the numbered file name done by the camera. Sorry for this long winded post, but for me this approach works very well and can find anything of the past 2-3 years in seconds. Bill
  3. I have had this problem all along to create a tight synch with the music ending correctly. I have set up a show using the latest betas yet, I perhaps this problem is solved now.
  4. I'm not aware that PTE can be run from a web page, but I would love to see that capability available. It would be a major enhancement to PTE if that could be developed. Bill
  5. Just read about some problems that jeffandtammymac were having. In a referenced forum thread along a similar topic, someone posted that SP2might be a culprit causing P2E problems. I have not installed SP2 yet (because I use Firefox) but has anyone had any P2E problems after an SP2 install? I have the MS CD of SP2, but am gunshy at the moment, and not sure what it would do for me since I don't use IE. Bill

  7. This would be an excellent tweak to the program. It is bothersome to jump back to image 1 and then have to slide along to the right to get back to where you wanted to be, particularly if you have 150+ slides. Could the Timeline window be minimized while working on something else and then restore the Timeline window leaving where the cursor was before? Bill
  8. On my copy of latest beta, just click on the main image panel and it will open full screen. Click again and it goes back to previous screen. Bill
  9. Roger's show is so good that I have to ask a few "behind the scenes" questions: 1 How is the opening title scrolled? 2 How are the "pictures within pictures" faded to other images with the background still showing? 3 How is the voice narration played over the background music? (I suppose this could be done in Audacity/Audition in a multi track recoding) 4 How are the small images with lines laid over the map? (This taechnique is similar to Powerpoint) Incidentally, for another good PTE experience, get Barry Beckhams/ PTE Starter CD. Many good tips and tutorials. http://www.beckhamdigital.co.uk/ Billl
  10. I can appreciate Jean-Claude, the work you have put into Sy(P). Now I can understand that it has a lot of features if viewed from a PTE level of, say 3.5. But since 4.2 - the light box - PTE became very intuitive to use. I'm sure many photographers work on an intuitively visual basis. There may be some who can make use of the various statistical data available in Sy, but if I look at some of the PTE slide shows on the Internet and particularly Beckham Digital, PTE can produce beautiful work as is. I will let the main developer Igor, do his creative work and I'm sure it will get bettter and better as a stand alone program. Bill
  11. I hate to rain on your parade, but I have not seen the benefits of this utility. There is a lot of programming put into it, but how does it help me make a better PTE slide show? I'm sure this will be useful for the techies, but from a photographer's viewpoint I can't see much use to it. PTE 4.31 is at a peak right now and it seems as if many of the "features" of SY are already available in 4.31. If this were available before the advent of the light box feature of PTE it would have been useful. I'd like to hear from Barry Beckham on SY. If I've missed something outstanding, I would certainly stand corrected. Bill
  12. I've been through a similar problem. Make sure you have your images sized right - 100-200Kb. I have used PixResizer (free) to batch reduce file sizes. I does not change the original image file sizes. Bill
  13. I have had very good luck with the freeware "Pixresizer" - go to http://bluefive.pair.com/free95.htm . Works well and easy to use. Bill
  14. I don't know if "sensible" people will use PowerPoint, but most would use it for presentations. I see PTE as basically a slide show software package and a great one at that. But it cannot compete as yet, with all the custom animation, background, multiple images on screen, etc., although I see that Igor is inching toward a PPT type of technology. Notice that "zoom" is available in PPT and if that comes about in PTE, it will be another inch closer to PPT at a very low price. Just IMHO of course.
  15. That certainly seems like a monster task, but worth doing if completed as you plan. I looked at your dummy layout - nice looking. What webpage software are you using? It doesn't look like Front Page. Bill
  16. I agree with Techman's item 4. I have to do a lot of fussing with lining up the slides and transitions across the music track. I cannot get the Automatic syncronization to equally space images across. Bill
  17. Thanks for info. I checked the seller, looks like he has these available frequently. I'll try one, then start lookiing for the appropriate lens. I see there are others available from China also. Bill
  18. Not at all boring, and a very interesting list of lenses for your Canon digRebel. I have the same camera but only one L lens, the 17- 40mm wide angle which broke the bank for this year. Are the screw type adapters still available that will fit the Canon mount? I'll have to watch eBay more as well! Thanks for your input. Bill
  19. Thanks for the input. I will get to work on resizing the files. Bill
  20. I am working on a presentation on the various things with digital photos that can be done once dowloaded to the computer. Slide shows is one avenue of presenting images and of course I want to use PTE. I have a short 50 slide show with music that works fine on the computer as an exe. However, I wish to show the capability of having a show on CD for use on any computer without the PTE software. First the autoinf file does not auto start. Of more concern is that the on screen display time as well as the transition time is jumpy and in no way related to the show from the hard drive. The files are fairly large, 1 - 2 Mb which I have used many times showing shows on the computer (Inspiron 8200 2.2Ghz). I am wondering if the images are too large for the CD to handle. If so, what is the recomended file size for use on a CD standalone show? Thanks for any input. Bill
  21. This is indirectly related to PTE. I want to add music in mp3 format to edit it to the slide show. I need about 2.5 minutes of a particular genre. I have tried the usual sites, Kazaa and Musicmatch and all the tracks seem to be in wma format. I have also downloaded 3 different wma converters that do not work. Can anyone offer a website that offers pure mp3 music tracks? Last year I downloaded 100's from Kazaa and all in mp3. It looks like the rules have changed. Bill
  22. What is the slide show software that you tried? I'm interested in other offerings, but I always come back to PTE Bill
  23. Just want to add that I have followed and downloaded all the betas and they get better and better. Now with v4.3 I hope I'll have time to study and learn all the new features. Those betas were coming fast and furious. I have promoted PTE many times at our computer club with my shows and members are starting to install it. Thanks again for a great program and constant improvement.
  24. My error - the .psd file format is listed in Picasa.
