Jean-Claude, I just went through your 4 tutorials and I found them very helpful. I have played with the audio functions but not to the extent you showed in your videos. I learned some new tricks! Thanks for putting them up and they are very understandable and appreciated. Thank you, Gary

Hi Gary, I'll try to find out how that works. I haven't gotten around to using the Nav Bar much yet, but soon I'll ring it out and get back to you. Best regards, Lin ========================= Lin, I don't want to install Ver7 yet because I am in the mist of a computer problem. But, I do have a question. What about the Navigation Bar? If you have video in the show with still images, will the Next button skip to the next image, regardless of what the video is doing? Or will it Fast Forward through the video and not skip to the next image? Or....? Thanks, Gary

============================ Dave, I really appreciate that you putting together the above data. It helps to understand what is going on. The bottom line seems to be the money. I think the best we can do is the SX80. I recently have seen two slide/AV presentations with two different projectors that would not be acceptable for any digital competition, in my opinion. This Canon SX80 should be a big improvement. But, unless we rob a bank.... Thanks... Gary

=============== Kieron, Thanks very much for the confirmation. At least we will be in the same boat! I will pass on your comments to our club's president. Sincerely, Gary

=========================== Thanks for the link, Eric. But I notice that they don't even mention the LcOS projectors. That seems to be the newer technology. Things change so fast it is difficult to get info on the cutting edge. But it has some good basic info. Limitless funds? Nope! Gary

=================== Dave, I did see the WUX10 but the price is beyond our club's budget. The SX80 is on sale for $2,290 and the WUX10 is going for $5,563. It is unfortunate that we don't have the bucks for the better projector. But I still don't understand, if the brochure says "the projector operate brilliantly in both 4:3 aspect ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio", what am I missiing here? It seems to be telling me that it will show the 16:9 format as the WUX10 will. Perhaps the SX80 will show the 16:9 as a smaller footprint on the screen than the WUX10??? Most of the use will be for individual digital photographs but I am trying to get the club into displaying PTE type slideshows. Thanks, Gary

======================= Peter and Igor, Thanks for confirming this glitch. Since I discovered the "View New Content" some time ago, it has really helped in being able to read all new postings much more efficiently. It will be great when the fix is in to perfect it. Sincerely, Gary

Greetings, I found the brochure on this Canon Realis SX80 Mark II and it stated the following: "Canon REALiS projectors operate brilliantly in both 4:3 aspect ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio. So, no matter which screen you own, you won't need to purchase another." http://i.b5z.net/i/u...e_10-2009_2.pdf Is this sufficient to not worry about the 4:3 vs the 16:9 issue? I read that the LCOS projectors (as this Canon is) is highly recommended. Gary

==================== Dave, I am still trying to digest all of this. In the meantime, which Epson did you get? I see that the 16x9 Canon is more than twice the price of the Canon Realis SX80 Mark II. Gary

============================ Igor, It still does not do what I expect it to do. Maybe I am just not understanding the settings. I just tried it out again. If I have my Profile set to "Show me all content that I have not read," it seems to dump all the postings that I have already read and shows only new unread postings. So this makes sense. However, when I switch my Profile to "Show me all content since my last visit," and then click on View New Content, all of the previously read postings return and also shows any new postings. This happens even if I close down Firefox and reopen the Forum. I would think it should, again, dump all the postings I have already read since I closed my 'last visit' to the Forum. What constitutes a 'last visit'? If I am interpreting this incorrectly, please let me know. (This all started when I was out of town for a week and came back and wanted to read all of the unread postings. When I clicked on View New Content, no postings showed up and I had to go back to each Forum topic to pick out any unread postings.) Thanks... Gary Added later: I noticed that when I had the setting at "Show me all content since my last visit," there was a notice at the top of the page that said "There are 5 new entries since Yesterday, 10:05 PM". It was at about 10:15 AM this morning. Not sure where the Forum's time of "10:05 PM" came from. It was certainly not my 'last visit'.

Greetings, Our photography club is about to get into the digital presentation world. They are planning on purchasing the Canon Realis SX80 Mark II projector. The resolution is stated as 1400 x 1050. I make my shows with the aspect ratio at 16:9 and I make my MP4s at 1920 x 1080. So my question is: What will happen when my exe's and MP4s are shown using this projector? I am concerned about the images being distorted or resized or whatever. I am not familiar with the ins and outs of using a projector. I also assume whatever laptop that is being use will have an effect??? Any input would be appreciated so I can understand if I have to alter the way I make a slideshow for this projector. Thanks... Gary

===================== Dave and Peter, I have seen the 'Mark all items... ' a few times and have used it. But it does not show up on every screen, I think. I will try to pay attention to do that after I finish reading all postings. It does seem to be a bug to have to do that extra step. It does not seem to be tagging the postings that have been read. If you read only half of the new postings, you don't want to 'Mark all items...' yet, so they, I guess, will reappear until you have read all the postings and then did the 'Mark all items....'. Thanks for the reminder. Gary

Greetings, Recently, I seem to be having a problem with the Forum not showing me only the new content when I clicked on View New Content. For example, I had my Profile / My Settings set to "Show me all content since my last visit". It repeatedly showed not only new content but many of the previously read content. This happened many times. Then I changed my Profile / My Settings to "Show me all content that I have not read" and it showed content from today (3/21) all the way back to 3/16. I then switched it back to the "...last visit" and it then correctly showed only the new content. I usually check for new posting several times a day and only want to see new postings. I expect to get only the content I have not read regardless of either choice because I read each and every posting. But the Forum keeps giving me posting that I have read more than once. Is this a problem with the WnSoft program??? Or is there something I am not aware of to get correctly show only the new and unread postings??? I have switched back to "...I have not read" but it is still shows me previously read content. Thanks... Gary

=========================== Lin... I wonder how this will affect us putting our slide shows with video on Beechbrook or MediaFire to share our work.... Gary
-
========================= Lin, I don't have the illusion of being able to come up with something 'novel' when video drop-ins will be available. On many vacation trips in the past, I have shot video along with still shots. I have converted the Hi8 video to AVI files. At this point, I only plan to do my regular slide shows and then intersperse the video sequences where it will add something to the still images. Or maybe, if possible, put a small window running some video sequences in a box next to the slide show. It is hard now to envision what to do and what will be possible. I will, I am sure, get great ideas from the more creative guys in this Forum. My big concern is the final size of the slide show once any video is added. Thanks. Gary

Arrange All Points & Slides w/ Customized Lengths.
goddi replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
================== DG, Yes, I tried it and it worked. The 'trick' seems to be that you have to move and replace the 'non-standard' images in the "Full Screen View of Slide List". And, using Arrange Selected Points. If the moving is done in "Full Screen...", its customized time moves with it. If the moving is done in the Timeline, it only moves the slide, not its associated customized time. This can get a bit messy if you have lots of slides with customized times. Lots of note taking so you get them back to where you want them. Thanks for the tip. But I would hope that Igor can work this out so none of this extra work is necessary and the Arrange All Points would take the customized times into effect automatically, so no math or note taking is necessary. Thanks... Gary -
Arrange All Points & Slides w/ Customized Lengths.
goddi replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
======================== Lin, Yes, I understand the math needed to spread the slides as you have clearly explained. I was hoping there was a more direct way. Since this really is a pretty simple computation and we are using a computer, I would think that this would be an obvious and simple improvement for PTE. Why put the user to have to do all the calculations each time the slideshow gets adjusted? PTE does the math for Arranging All Points without taking into account any Custom Lengths. I don't see why it shouldn't (or couldn't) be able to make the leap to account for any slides with Custom Lengths. What an improvement it would be for the Arrange All Points function. Well, I hope Igor will take note of this idea. Thanks for your response. And since you don't have any alternative except for actually doing the math each time, there must not be any other 'trick' to do it. I'm sure you would be the one to know! I'll be sure to have my hand calculator next to my computer next time I need to do this... Thanks... Gary -
Greetings, I have been adjusting an old show that had worked out perfectly. However, I wanted to trim out some slides so that the slideshow was shorter. In the original slideshow, I had all the slides evenly spread over the length of the several music MP3 files, except that one of the slides has a map with an automated route, which needs to be 16 seconds in length. Somehow, I was able to get the slides and the music to end together. In reworking the slideshow, I removed the excess slides and one MP3 music file. Then, I had a problem getting the remaining images re-spread over the new music’s length, AND keeping the 16 seconds length for the map’s slide. As expected, when I clicked the Timeline/Timed Points/Arrange All Points, the 16 seconds that I had set as the Customized Length for the map slide, reverted back to about 3 seconds (as all the slides did). When I reset the map’s slide to 16 seconds in length, the slides went beyond the length of the music. So, there seems to be no way to lock in the Customize Lengths, and let the Timeline/Timed Points/Arrange All Points re-adjust all of the slides so that all of the slides are arranged to the length of the music (factoring in the Customized Lengths). This would be a very helpful feature that I have asked for a long time ago in Ideas and Suggestions, but not addressed, yet. However, since I think I found a workaround, I wonder if this can be incorporated into the Arrange All Points function. What I mean is that if you have Customized a slide’s length, the Arrange All Points function would not affect slides with Customized lengths, but take them into account in spreading out the rest of the slides to end with music’s length. My workaround is as follows: The music length is 11:25, with 200 slides. The map slide’s length needs to be 16 seconds. I removed the excess slides and one MP3 file from the original slideshow. I re-spread the slides to the new music’s length using the Arrange All Points function. In the Slide View, I added 4 dummy slides to the slideshow. In the Timeline View, I ran the Arrange All Points, re-spreading them. I then re-customized the length of the map slide to 16 seconds. Then, in the Slide View, I removed the 4 dummy slides. Now, in the Timeline View, the slides and the music ended together, while retaining the 16 seconds for the map slide. (I hope I got these steps right, but I hope you get the idea). If I can get this to work in this ‘workaround’, why can’t it be incorporated into PTE so that Customized lengths of slides are not discarded when Arrange All Points is used??? Or is there a way to get this done that I don’t know of? Thanks… Gary

========================= Greetings, I have been using Faststone. Has lots of features and is free. http://www.faststone.org/ Gary

====================== Douglas, If you are creating your own show, I find the best way to have these controls is to use the 'Navigation Bar' that you can add to your shows, which allows use of your mouse for these controls. All you have to do is go to 'Project Options'/'Advanced' and click on 'Show Navigation Bar'. You can then go into 'Customize Navigation Bar' to show the navigation features you want/don't want and the size of the bar and how long you want it to stay on the screen (even the color, and more). I seem to be the only one who uses this feature because I have not seen it in any other show. I think it is a great feature, though many others prefer to only allow the use of keyboard controls and many prefer not to allow any controls for the viewer. Hope this helps. Gary P.S. In fact, I allow both, keyboard and the navigation bar in my shows.

"Um dia... em Agosto" / "One day... in August"
goddi replied to orizaba's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
======================== Greetings, Since I don't disagree with how the frame looks, I don't think you need any justification. But for your technical reasons, if the Blu-ray process 'eats up the frame', I can understand your purpose. However, about your 'pause/play' reasoning. I know that others have offered similar reasoning. I don't agree. When we are sitting in the movies, we are a captured audience--not subject to phone calls or door bell interruptions, etc. Sometimes I miss some dialog in a theater and wish I could rewind the movie but I can't. When I am home, things happen. I can pause/play/rewind a Spielberg movie at home, and I don't think he would mind. Having these controls lets me enjoy the presentation more, not less. They even have Directors cuts where someone who talks over the action. After I play a PTE show completely through, I might want to go back and check out an image or a transition that captured my imagination. With no controls, I would have to run through the entire show, over and over again. If I can pause/play/rewind a Hollywood movie for my enjoyment, I don't think it detracts from any PTE show if it had the same capabilities. (Maybe you didn't intend to have the right-mouse button work but if it is clicked, it will allows the viewer manually advance through your show. ) Sincerely, Gary -

================== Greetings, I turned off the phone and didn't answer the door. I was able to view the entire show. Really enjoyed it. Lots of nice techniques, music and sound effects. And, I liked the frame! It fit well with the use of the old images. Gary
