I haven't read everything above, but I found the upgrade key thingy to be a bit tricky. Took a few tries. What worked for me was to include the key from the registry like this: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PTE] "Key"="XXXX...[half a mile of numbers and letters]...XXXX" The whole kit and kaboodle. Just copy and paste. Entered just like that (I am not 100% sure exactly what arrangement was successful--but I think that was it). No other combination worked. I tried an old original key and the newest temporary key (dumb choice, but I was willing to try anything) and an in-between(replacement??) key. The in-between key (found in Evernote from Feb 2013 - I LOVE Evernote!) worked for me -- once I got it entered correctly. Then, I got an email saying: While reviewing your order we were unable to reach you on the provided phone number. Please send us a phone number that we can reach you at. We will call you to verify the order and process it promptly. Kind regards, PayPro Sales Right. It was no doubt ringing happily--far away. I am traveling in multiple SE Asian countries. So I bought a SIM card and time which cost more than the upgrade (but I needed the card anyway). I sent that to sales, country codes and all. Sales sent another notice saying: This email is to let you know that your order is being reviewed by our staff before it can be processed. This process usually takes a few minutes, however it may take up to one business day in rare cases. If you wish to expedite the process, please reply to this email with a phone number that we can reach you at and we will call to verify the order. So I re-sent the phone number. I waited awhile. It was late. Past my bed time. No phone call. Before long the sale was approved anyway. YIPPEE!!! The new key works wonderfully! I am a Happy Camper! Thanks Igor et al. jk

I have the i7 3630QM and GTX 670. So your system would be faster than mine. I typically might have Lightroom and Photoshop and Outlook and Chrome with a couple dozen tabs open and a half dozen other programs running, and nothing has ever hiccuped yet. I watch almost every show available here or at Beechbrook and so far everything is pretty much as smooth as butter. I miss DOS days. Sort of. Maybe just miss the "old days" when life seemed slower and simpler than now. I'd love to pitch my iPhone and use an old black rotary dial phone. But on the other hand... I remember the joy of my Tandy 1000, little green cursor blinking expectantly. Making my own menu system as a batch file--it got complex and fun [echo. echo. echo.]. Then BASIC--college Linear regression program [END IF]. Then C, all manner of wonderful things [printf("Hello Lin")]. Then html - web design[</body> ]. Then SQL - complex databases with VB clients [sELECT TRIM(' MyStuff ');]. Now...PTE [PanSpeed=1;12000;0;0;1;] Know how fast my "pan speed" is in the kitchen when it's supper time? jk

What iteration of i7? I have an ASUS machine very similar to your specs bought about a year ago at Best Buy. There is always the latest and greatest which is spectacularly expensive. I have a 1.5 TB HDD and an additional 256 GB SSD--I recommend a bigger SSD depending how you use it. Don't skimp--and with a SSD you may have the hassle of keeping data off your C: drive. Keep on eye on power supply size because the system you describe may max it out and with little room for growth. I am completely happy with mine and I work it VERY hard. I do NOT like Windows 8 but discipline myself to use it anyway. It is OK. My screen is 1920 X 1080 and I sometimes use a separate 2nd same-size screen. No problems at all. Your humongous screen will eat up videocard power, but it's not likely a problem. Mine is "canned" but the best I could get at the time. You get the most bang for your buck. I do not like all the garbage-ware stores put on a computer, so I just reformatted the hard drive and started over. Then it was squeaky clean. Didn't take long at all. Win 8 offers more formatting choices than Win 7 - and you have to get it right, but you probably know all about that. 2cents worth jk

I don't remember what version and I am not sure how to determine that from the EXE file. The creation date stamp is Sep '05.

Here is a link to a very small show which behaves this way. The results seem inconsistent to me. Here is what happens: 1. Occasionally the show will freeze when ending--but usually it exits correctly. 2. When hitting ESC to end the show early (after about 15 seconds), maybe 1X out of 5 it will freeze. One thing unique about the show uploaded is show is that it uses desktop fade in and out, although I have the same issue with some other shows which do not use fade-in fade-out. jk https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2816790/Laoshi-Tiaowu.zip I am testing on this machine: Operating System: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200) (9200.win8_gdr.130531-1504) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Is this something anyone discussed before? Many of my older slide shows sometimes (inconsistently) freeze when I hit the Esc key. The only way out is through the Task Manager. I haven't tested this much, but has anyone else encountered this? This only occurs on my Win 8 computers - both fairly high-end a desktop and a laptop. XP and Win 7 don't seem to be a problem--yes I still run an old XP machine. I don't currently have Vista (thankfully) on any machine handy, so I don't know about that. Old programs that had a "Run" window seem to escape this problem. I am not sure of PTE versions, but seems to be EXE's created about 2008 or before. If it is worthwhile I can fiddle more with it. I worry some that these files may someday not be view-able, and I have no way to recreate many of them. My bad for not backing everything up to Zip files. jk

Running Win 8 64 on 2 machines. PTE key registration was no problem. I am not using VMWare so maybe this isn't helpful. jk PS. Win 8 has advantages but they are really not worth the annoyances. That info was for free.

I think it should work in both O&A editor AND real presentation. jk -
Thanks for your comments. I was worried the blossoms might not survive freezing, but they seem to be fine. The snow was mostly gone in one day. There was some magical quality about that morning as if the air was sprinkled with fairy dust, not only the beauty but also something about the people and their joy. No one was complaining or unhappy with the turn of events. Instead we all became like little children exploring, dancing, singing, splashing, filled with joy. jk

One morning in March, a very ordinary morning, something quite unexpected happened, and all the people were very happy. This is not art, just a few snapshots taken in half an hour from one delightful morning that you might find interesting. Canon 7D, 50mm and 24-105mm. Show is 6.5 min 94 pictures, 36 MB. You captured not only spectacular beauty, but a sense or feel of the place. I am so fascinated by the islands, I had to research them and now I want to go there! Do you have to be able to speak Spanish? My Spanish is about 2-3 year old level

Thank You Maureen. Your work is breathtaking and inspiring.

Thank you both very much. Igor: I had missed the "Safe executable file for Internet" option. Thanks for reminding me. By the way, I LOVE Pictures2Exe! Thanks for an amazing, quality product. I still think that one day soon it will get "discovered" and take the world by storm. Tom: I should probably disable SmartScreen, but like airport security, we sometimes endure the hassle of the dubious protection someone else decides for us. jk

Seems like this has been discussed, but is there a way to permanently prevent that nasty Windows 8 warning dialog box when opening P2E executables?
