In settings/Preferences/Project you can tick the 'save a copy of the project in a .bak file (in PTE11)
This does at least give you the option to go back to the previous change.
I never use the Autosave option for the reasons you state & prefer to do a Save As with a new name (increment) every so often.
With your suggestion you could end up with an awful lot of copies & not know which changes had been applied to each

F12 to advance each image while in O&A
I didn't know this worked.
But there are arrow keys at the top right in O&A it quickly advance or go back through the images.

If you show Thumbnails in the Filelist, do you see the images? Or do they all show black?

I've not had any problems opening older shows as far as I can remember, but it's not something I do that often.
Also most of mine are set up as Templates, so I just open them from the Template list within PTE.
Maybe Igor will pick this up tomorrow & come up with an answer.
To be honest I never look at 'Main Object' or to see which images are highlighted in the FileList, so I wouldn't notice if there was a problem.Jill

you can download all the earlier PTE versions from the website https://www.wnsoft.com/en/pte-av-studio/old-versions/
They will all run side by side.

Gary, if this is a very old show, it was most likely made with an early version of PTE before we had 'Main Image' numbers
From what I remember Igor said to open old shows in PTE8 first, save it, then open in a later version.
This may explain the problems you are finding.Jill

is there a right-click option to 'view in explorer'
This would make it easier to find the image & then drag & drop into PTE.Most of us tend to have a dedicated folder for each PTE project & keep all of the associated files within that.
But I understand this is not the way you work.
I also tend to keep my original images in dedicated Folders & sub-folders, but I don't have that many so it is easy to find them.
Anything that is specific to the project I keep within a folder for that project.Jill

just save as with a new name & then delete the original if you no longer need it

If it will be possible to add Stroke to PTE, then could we have Bevel as well please.
Personally I don't feel that the work involved & the extra weight it would add to the program, that a Spell Check is worthwhile.
It is so easy to just copy the Text & paste it into say Word to perform checks.
This is what I do if I have a lot of Text on screen (which is not often)Jill

sounds like it.
I think Mark has a Blue Yeti so maybe ask him, but he is Mac so it may work differently.

There is no need to delete the files in their original location, that is up to you & how you manage your space.
If you use a different program to create a show, then you will have to manage those files manually.
You could still create a Folder within the main Templates Folder for them to keep everything together, but PTE will not pick it up.Jill

I agree that we need VU meters as suggested.
But a work around rather than having to use additional software to mix, it is possible to just open say Audacity and watch the VU meters in that while playing in PTE.
Maybe not as accurate, but better than nothing & unless it is a really complicated soundtrack it saves having to do the sound outside of PTE.Jill

Check your Windows Sound Settings - Right Click the Volume indicator in the bottom Right of the Taskbar & check the settings

Will I need to create this .PT folder for every PTE project
Yes, but PTE does it automatically.
Set up the main location in Preferences first.
Then within PTE open a show & select File/Templates/Create Template from this show.
It only takes a couple of Seconds to do.Open each show in turn & create a Template from it.
You will see the list of Templates within PTE & it is then easy to open a show from there.
I only create the Template for finished shows. For Work in Progress I keep using the existing Folders
I have moved all my Templates to another computer in one go and as long as you tell PTE in Preferences where the main Folder is located, it will find all your shows.
I can then easily copy a new .PT folder into the main folder on a different computer & PTE will pick it up.It is also very useful for backup of all your shows
Rather than moving the Template Folder to another drive, I would move your original folders off if you need space.
If you did change the Drive then you would need to update Preferences to show the new Drive.I have been using PTE for around 20 years & usually make a Template for each show once it is complete.
It keeps everything in one place.
I then copy the published exe or MP4 file into the .PT Folder so I can easily locate them as well.Jill

Create a Template from your Project.
This stores all of the used files, images/video/sounds in a .PT Folder.
By having a group Folder for alll of your Projects and storing each .PT Folder within that, they are all in one place.
They are also all accessible from within PTESee File/Templates and Settings/Preferences/Templates

Thanks, I have never noticed this function which is a bit hidden. It is nice to have it.
I always thought the 'Undo All Changes' was for everything you have done since the last Save Command, not just on that Slide in O&A.
You learn something new all the time
1 hour ago, SoCu said:Regardless of the fact that the changes are saved automatically "if so configured" when you are in the main window.
Autosave will save every so many minutes regardless of which window you are in
SoCu you can save at any point in O&A by pressing Ctrl+S & in the main window.

turn off Auto Save in Settings/Preferences/Project & then all changes are only saved when you save them manually.

put the play head at the point you want to split.
Right click the audio & select Split.I agree that it would be quicker if we had a short cut key

It's not something I have ever done, I have only copied folders & files to another computer and that usually gives me the missing files message as the drive letter is usually different.
Jill
-
try renaming the original Folder to something else temporarily & see if you then get the 'Missing File'
Jill
-
did you get 'missing File' message for the images?
If so simply locate the first one missing & it should automatically find all the rest if they are in the same folder.

Hi Claude, avi is an uncompressed file, so will be much larger.
The quality of MP4 with the latest version of PTE is the same as an exe and can be played on all devices Windows, Mac or Phone.
See Publish/HD and 4K video - leave everything at the default settings. When you exclude video from exe the file size of the exe should be much smaller especially if all your show is video.
The videos will still be placed in the same Folder as the exe and you will need to send all files for someone else to play.Jill

If you are using video then make an MP4 not an exe
The size will be much smaller
Jill

there is no actual limit in PTE, but it depends how powerful your computer is.
Keep your images to a small size if possible to help.

no need for a long duration, just set the Menu Slide(s) to be 'Wait for Key Press to show next Slide'
It will stay on screen until you press the keyboard right arrow key or hit Esc to exit it.

Step for cloning a keyframe?

Click the keyframe so it turns darker Blue, then Right Click & choose Clone.
You can then drag it to the position you want.
