I made a video on this subject before, but the idea to do so again was prompted by someone who asked the question and of course nothing stands still in the digital world, so I came back to this topic

Thanks I’m glad the show is liked, because it’s pretty basic and old school in AV terms. What encourages me to pick up the gear and go out is the changeable conditions that I got here. I was aware that most sunflower pictures are against a vivid blue sky, but I only had a couple of hours at this farm. So, I had to accept the light as it was, but I thought I was lucky to get a different look with the cloudy sky. The rest of the images on the scenic rim, where again taking advantage of changeable conditions and light. These images also enabled me to get into ACR/LR masks. For those who have not looked at them yet, they are pretty good and worth investigation. I’m not a fan of the over used words game-changer, but you could apply it to masks.

John. I can’t see any point in you doing this. Presumably the Olympus 4/3 camera will turn in at least 2560 pixels on the long side. The full frame shots will be bigger than 2560 on the long side. Whether you are intending to make an executable file or an MP4 (recommended) you already have enough pixels to work with. Let’s say your making an MP4 Video. You upscale the 4/3 images and when you publish the MP4 as a HD video, it will downscale them. Unless I’m missing something, your chasing your tail here.

When I go in for Cataracts, I’m going to demand Canon F2.8 lenses oh yeah, with image stabilisation too

Michael I’ve already had surgery for a Macular Hole which formed in my left eye in May. It’s an age thing, where you lose vision clarity in the centre of your eye. It could have been devastating. They did a remarkable job on that, but the recovery was very difficult. A gas is placed in the eye to hold things in place and for 45 minutes of every waking hour for 5 days…………You have to be face down as though you’re looking towards the centre of the earth. The Cataracts are not big issues compared to that, so I’m looking forward to getting them done and hopefully moving on. In the meantime, thank goodness for autofocus :-)

Hello Mur I have a couple more issues to iron out. I’m having a Cataract in my left eye done on the 12th November and I’ll have the right eye Cataract done as soon as possible after that. It’s a bit of a shock when you live for 71.5 years with hardly a scratch and then the health issues all kick off together. Oh the Joys eh?

Yes, these types of YouTube channels are now my mainstay entertainment. I haven’t sat in our TV room for months and even cancelled my satellite TV account. I prefer these real world YouTube videos that those super slick TV ones of old. Narrow boating in the UK, Remote bush walking in Australia and others. All great entertainment, made by ordinary folk.

Rosy I’ve watched every episode of the re-building to Tally Ho. It got me through some difficult times this year and last and I was even prompted to donate to the guys cause. It really is a great series and what a talent for a young guy to have. Nothing seems to phase him at all.

Great presentation, I really enjoyed the varied images. Not quite so keen on the maps, which in my view tend to interrupt the flow a little, but then again I can’t read them.

Gary I agree that finding the right music is vital. I almost gave up on the 3 Jewels, because I spent a lot of time going through YoTube copywriter free music. There were tracks I could have used, but they just didn’t have that special something. That thing that we find hard to describe, but we know it when we hear it, or see it as the case may be. I too had YouTube music flagged recently, which is a bit confusing when you consider that I got it from their own copyright music section. However, from my days working with Medwyn Goodall music, I’m aware of how copyright floats from composer, to recording label, back to the composer over time. It wasn’t until I started using that Pink Floyd track that the idea of that opening and closing technique came to me. It does indicate how finding the first music is so important. Well, perhaps technology has found the most equitable way for us to use music.

Gary When a video is uploaded to a monetised YouTube account, one of the first pages your taken to is where you can select if that particular video is monetised or not. Even if you selected to monetise that video, it would be flagged straight away and you will receive an email something like this below A copyright owner using Content ID has claimed some material in your video. Your video is live and the visibility settings you selected remain applied to it. But it is now either being monetized by the copyright owner, or they have chosen to receive analytics about it. This is not a copyright strike. This claim does not affect your account status. In the next steps section above, I’ve taken the first option to mean that if I’m happy for the monetisation to go to the music creator, then the video can remain posted. The monetisation isn’t important to me and under the circumstances it’s hard to argue that any money generated by the song shouldn’t go to the creator. When you think about this issue and see the amount of copyright material that is posted on YouTube, this seems to me to be a fair way and probably the only way to deal with it. Assuming I’ve drawn the correct conclusions and by this time next week I’m not in Jail….

I spent a lot of time searching for royalty free music for these images and none had the impact I was looking for. No offence to Eric Matyas and others, but I couldn’t find anything that I thought worked well. My YouTube Chanel has recently been monetised, so within seconds of posting anything with copyright music, it’s flagged and your informed by email. However, what they do, as long as I’ve got this right, is to divert any revenue created to the music creator and the video can remain posted. I have no issues with that at all. In fact it a good way to deal with copyright issues in my view. If no money is being made, where’s the problem and if money is being made (albeit a tiny amount) the technology now allows that to be identified and diverted to the creator.

It was only one visit me not a long time, there is just a lot of opportunity for images. In fact, I wish I had spent a bit more time, or went back the next day when the sun was in a different spot.

You have to be practical and most of what we would like to be able to do, may not be possible or practical. If it were me, I’d make my presentation as an Mp4 video - 1920*1080 pixels at 60p. I’d also create an EXE as a backup and I’d take two USB sticks, with the same content on both. Just in case one USB chose that time to throw a wobbly. Not likely, but better safe than sorry. Copy the content to the computer and run it from there as a preference. You don’t say if the venue is a Camera Club, but if it is, any club that does not have the equipment to play that Mp4 should be drummed out of the Brownies.

It is a darn good camera though.
