  1. Are you creating the zip file in Win8 and then moving the zip to the mac? I don't use Win8, but that should work. What happens when you double-click the app?
  2. YOu can always plug the laptop into a desktop monitor. Best of both worlds. If the specs are the same they should perform the same. If you're seeing a difference then something about them is not the same. The bit about different keyboards between laptop and desktop is a good one, but I solved that by not using a desktop anymore. I just plug the laptop into a big LCD display. One computer, and no more wondering which version is on which machine. Backlit keyboard. Try it on a MacBook Pro booted into Windows. You might be surprised.
  3. remove the cover on the bottom, the memory snaps right in. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
  4. a good thought but it still doesnt work. It doesnt even get far enough for photos or sound. It crashes when launching.
  5. doesnt work for me either. I get an unexpectedly quit message.
  6. There's sound, and it's longer than 20sec too.
  7. 1/fl works the same as always and with VR, you can do even slowr. Ive taken handheld at 1/8th, looks fantastic. I still use a tripod where I can though.
  8. zip file won't work. You need to make an mp4 movie. Add the movie to itunes, then select the ipad from the device list button, then click the Movies tab and select your movie (and any other movies you want), then sync. Do the same for music, photos and apps. Also pick Show Sidebar in the View menu. I dont know why they hid it. http://www.apple.com/itunes/inside-itunes/Device-syncing-with-the-new-iTunes.jpg To play any of the movies you copied, use the Video app that comes with the ipad.
  9. What do you mean switch? vmware is just another app. Click on the vmware icon in the dock to switch to it, or if you use Unity, click on the individual windows apps in the dock. Or are you thinking of bootcamp, where you reboot into Windows?
  10. Youre using html5, not flash. You can remove flash entirely and it will still work. The reason it doesnt work with IE is because it has problems with html5. But you definitely want to update flash to the latest flash or you are at risk. http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb13-04.html
  11. Isnt #2 the same as #1 but combined into 1 zip? anyway, dont forget about players for iphone, ipad, android, Windows phone, Windows rt and whatever else comes out in the future. why would the format need to change? just need an app for each platform.
  12. What about Lenovo's 27" table PC? Not tablet, but a table. Even runs on battery for when you want to take it with you. Ive use the cintiq. It's nice but expensive. Its not a touch screen. You have to use the wacom pens. its a tablet like the regular wacom tablets but built into a screen, which makes it super easy to draw and retouch with it. whatever he's using he needs to finish it. I dont know anything about Unity but the web site looks like its just for games.
  13. I agree. ipads and Android are big sellers but Windows 8 is genius. A laptop that can double as a tablet is perfect. Best of both. Microsoft is already switching to ARM with Windows RT. Im not sure about a touch imac though, Id hate to keep reaching for the screen.
  14. You're very wise to be worried and it won't take anywhere near 50 years. Things are starting to change now. PTE shows wont play on Windows RT, iPads or Android tablets, other than by exporting a video. Tablets are the next big thing.
  15. They dont blacklist apps that compete with Apple's apps. There are a bunch of browsers, some of which are much better than Safari. There are a bunch of mail apps too. there are many, many camera apps. there are also other calculators, maps, weather, stock, contacts and calendar/todo apps, all of which duplicate what comes with it. Android phones are good competition. Android tablets are not there yet. Look at that link, the ipad has 88% share! Android tablets have a long, long way to go. Apparently there was a change with ios 5 and it affected more than just that one app. Look at this thread in apple discussions: this was the reply from Eurosmartz Apple's latest release of iOS 5 has changed the way apps are able to interact with the device. This now means that the one of the printing features in this app for printing from other apps via the AirPrint method is no longer available. Apple's changes for iOS have removed this functionality for all apps - not just ours. All other printing options from other apps via this app are still available and you can still continue to use your existing printer(s). Windows 8 is going to be interesting. I like the idea of having one system work on both tabets and regular computers since I'm tired of keeping things in sync with the ipad, but on the other hand, I've yet to hear anyone say they like Windows 8. That's not good.
  16. That's a lot! For Mac or ios? Macs can print to PDF without any extra software. If you mean iPad, it's still in the app store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/save2pdf-for-ipad/id399758218?mt=8 More common than they are now but they have a long way to go to match the ipad. Android tablets are not that great but Android phones are a different story. I like the bigger screens on Android phones. The ipad is going to have a huge market share for a while.
  17. Not that many are switching. 70% of new apps are for Apple and developers are making more money there. http://blog.flurry.com/bid/85911/App-Developers-Signal-Apple-Allegiance-Ahead-of-WWDC-and-Google-I-O
  18. That's it exactly. There are different file formats which can be used on any computer with apps that understand those formats. Some apps might come with the computer and others might need to be downloaded, like VLC. There aren't 'Apple files' or 'Windows files'.
  19. So it does work now? I'm not talking about Machete. I was talking about this: its like expecting Apple-Files to work in Windows ~ they wont !! I asked what these Apple-Files are, because all of the files I've made on a Mac work fine in Windows and the other way too and not just movies.
  20. Then why do they say mp4 is supported in version 3.6? http://www.machetesoft.com/machete-version-history.html What is an 'Apple-File' ? As someone who regularly moves files back and forth between Mac and PC, I'd really like to know what it is that shouldn't be working, because it all works quite well.
  21. The builtin speakers aren't that great. Have you tried external speakers? the iMac has optical out as well as normal audio out. If you want extra hardware, the Griffin iMic is cheap and works fairly well. It works on PCs too. The Apogee Duet is decent and the Echo AudioFire is also.
  22. Copy the folder of stuff to the Mac and it will see the folder as an app but that doesn't always work. What does always work is create a zip file from PTE and unzip on the Mac.
  23. That one is Mpeg4, the other is h.264/aac
  24. Either one. I prefer VMware but Parallels works ok too. You can run XP in VMware or Parallels, just not Bootcamp unless you get an older Mac.
  25. I use VMware not Parallels but either one will work and it sure beats rebooting.
