SoCu Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 I'm trying to add text in one color, and then another text in a different color underneath. I want to zoom in on the second text so it appears as an outline of the first text, but it seems that when I zoom in, it enlarges in some areas at the top and in others at the other side. I've seen some comments that it's better to put the text on a single line, although these limitations aren't ideal either. I've tried with a single line, and it doesn't work either. You can center a letter so that the color of the text below is centered, but it doesn't work very well on that single letter, and it doesn't work well on the other letters either. Why isn't the zoom applied equally across all areas? Is there a solution, or will I still have these limitations in the text editor? Thanks. Quote
jkb Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 for some reason I cannot see your images - it says Content Not Viewable in your Region. If you are wanting the Text to have a 'Stroke' Effect then use Ring Shadow. This works quite well Jill Quote
Igor Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 Hi SoCu, I understand what you try to do - make a bigger copy of the text object under the normal text, to look like an outline effect. The problem is - when you make the font size bigger, the letters don't grow the same on all sides. Bigger letters shift a bit and cover the small text more on one side, less on other side. This is why outline look normally in some places and not OK in other places. Jill's idea is the right way for this - use Ring Shadow to simulate outline effect. P.S. Your pictures are on Imgur web service, and Jill can not see them, because of regional limitations of Imgur. Better to upload pictures as attachment to your post here on forum, not link to outside service. 1 Quote
jt49 Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 Zoom is not a suitable methode to achieve an outlined text. It cannot work 😒 Quote
SoCu Posted September 6 Author Report Posted September 6 I'll try a different server another time. The reason for using external links is that the images can be placed in different sections, whereas if they're uploaded directly to the post, they all appear together at the end. Unless there's a way to intersperse the images with the text, I'm sure. I've also experimented with text shadows, and while I can achieve the zoom effect I'm trying to get, the shadow also appears to one side of the text. If I center it, it has to be blurred, which is not what I'm aiming for. Edited: I've moved the images to another server; let's see if they can be viewed now. Quote
jienense Posted September 6 Report Posted September 6 I would like to create something similar in PTE. Quote
SoCu Posted September 7 Author Report Posted September 7 This is the text I'm trying to create in PTE I thought from the comments that it was said that for version 12 the text editor would have changes, that you could do more than just write text with a font type, limited to the fonts that Windows has. mhwarner Posted September 9 Report Posted September 9 I know it's not ideal, but for fancy text effects it is really much better to create them in Photoshop or some other graphics editor. Then you can create exactly the effect you are striving for. Just save your text as a png and bring it in to PTE AV. There are so many layer styles out there to use with Photoshop that your imagination is probably your only limit. Quote
SoCu Posted September 9 Author Report Posted September 9 Yes mhwarner, it’s clear that other programs offer more creative options in the text editor than PTE does, so I think this is an area for improvement in future updates. I know that any change takes work, and that’s not an excuse for not continuously improving PTE to make it an even better program, but the problem arises if you’re thinking of creating a style that any user can freely use: having to enter text, which can’t be done within PTE itself, and having to create text in other programs to import it as a PNG image isn’t efficient at all. I do create them using templates when I use them for my own projects, you can even include TIFF files in the Project, but it still means having to use other programs. Quote
