  4. The Rainbow Bee-eater is found throughout mainland Australia, as well as eastern Indonesia, New Guinea and, rarely, the Solomon Islands. In Australia, it is widespread, except in desert areas, and breeds throughout most of its range, although southern birds move north to over winter. A rainbow bee-eater regurgitates a pellet of indigestible parts of its prey, like insect wings and exoskeletons, to expel them from its body. This is a normal and healthy process, not a sign of sickness. The pellets are often collected by scientists to analyze the bird's diet and monitor local insect populations. Rainbow bee-eater pellet diagnostics were introduced to the NBPSP program in 2022, following its success in detecting Asian honey bees during the National Varroa Mite Eradication Program (NVMEP) in Queensland, which concluded in 2019. This technique is now employed in both Queensland and the Northern Territory to help mitigate the risk of Asian honey bee incursions. During 2023 the QLD Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (QDAF) and the NT Department of Industry Tourism and Trade (NT DITT), respectively collected 30 and 18 rainbow bee-eater pellet samples, at ports as part of the NBPSP and no exotic bees were detected. “Over five years we collected 225,000 bird pellets which contained 1.6 million bee wings, of which 79 were identified as Asian honey bee wings,” Roger said. “Once Asian honey bee wings have been identified, other surveillance methods are used to find the nest. The birds definitely helped us to achieve eradication.”

  5. Happy Wrensday The Superb Fairy-wren is found in open eucalypt woodland forests of south-eastern Australia. It inhabits dense understorey, and is usually seen in pairs or small groups. Also adapted to urban parks and gardens, and exotic weeds such as lantana. The breeding plumage of the male Superb Fairy-wren is unmistakable – a light blue cap, ear tufts, and cheeks; a black eye-stripe; dark blue-black throat; brown wings and white breast and belly. Beak of the adult male is black and legs are brown to dark brown. The adult female is mostly brown, with white throat, breast and belly. The beak is orange-red, with a similarly coloured eye-stripe; the tail is brown with a faint pale blue-grey tinge. The female has the same plumage year-round. The non-breeding adult male looks similar to the adult female, except that the male has a black beak, and navy-blue tail – the Superb Fairy-wren is the only species of fairy-wren where the non-breeding male has a navy blue tail. All other fairy-wren non-breeding males have much paler tail colouration. The species forages mostly on the ground, more so than other species of fairy-wren; also forages in low canopy areas of shrubs and trees. Eats mainly insects, including grasshoppers, ants, larvae, small seeds and fruits. Hops over ground and in shrubs and pounces on food.

  11. I ordered a P950 and probably a monopod next. This photo of a Sandpiper sunning on a rock at high tide was taken with my old FZ150 a few days ago. We also have many ducks, pelicans, herons, and egrets at our local wildlife sanctuary, https://photos.app.goo.gl/1z59MEWwsT9irKnT8 Thanks, Tom

  12. The new Affinity all in one app (Pixel, Vector, Publisher) is now available and basic functionality is free. If you want the AI features then it is US $15/month subscription. I don't know if AI is local or cloud based. Canva is a competitor to Adobe. https://www.affinity.studio/get-affinity

  14. Beautiful bird. Nice captures. Thanks for the info re the bird. I've been to Australia twice and seen them frequently, never got a decent shot of one because they never settle I like the freeze frames - would prefer them to be a bit longer. While I like time-lapse productions, I would prefer this one to be a video (just a personal preference) Keep up the good work!!

  16. Here is a link to a quick AV with about 700 images using the Timelapse Style made by tom95521. Although not a time-lapse sequence, it is a series of images taken at our recent Agricultural Show. For something different, I captured them with my IR converted camera.

  17. Topaz is considered by many to be one of the best AI image resizing software but recently switched subscription. If you are looking for alternatives to subscription based image resizing then you might try Upscayl which is free open source software and available for Mac and Windows. Like most AI software it works best on a Windows computer if you have a good graphics card or a Mac silicon computer. https://github.com/upscayl If you install Gimp open source image editor on a Windows or Linux Vulcan compatible GPU then this is one of my favorite free AI upscale options. https://www.gimp.org/ https://github.com/Nenotriple/gimp_upscale?tab=readme-ov-file Example of a popular non-subscription AI software. https://www.aiarty.com/ (Part of Digiarty which also sells VideoProc Converter AI) This is a good free online image scaler if you have just a few photos. https://imgupscaler.ai/ Here are a few samples for comparison. https://share.cleanshot.com/LZc2XWxp https://share.cleanshot.com/K3LtRNf3 Tom

  22. I assume this is because you are using Full Slide Duration. This takes the Time of Slide 1 + the Transition Duration of Slide 2. I always turn this Off as it can get very confusing, especially if you move a Slide's position or change a duration. I never use Slide Styles so can't answer this, sorry. I always do everything manually using O&A If the same thing happens on every Slide it can become very repetitive & boring to watch. If you select multiple Slides & change the Transition type it will also Change the Transition Timing to be the same on all. You will have to change each one individually. Dissolve is the default Transition unless you have changed it. Hope this helps. PTE is a great program & is very powerful. |I hope you continue to enjoy using it. Jill

  23. Thanks Jim and I agree. In this instance, I felt the portrait view showed the water fall area better as the landscape view did not show the grandeur of the falls nor the majesty of the tall trees that had recovered after almost 50 years. I did frame and horizontal but the 16 x 10 portrait on a mobile for me was more impressive. Thanks for commenting.

  24. I agree with Jim, watching images in landscape format on a TV or computer screen makes for a more pleasant viewer experience. Thanks for showing, Bert

  25. Had to watch it twice Once to read the text and then a second time to look at the images. (wish they had been landscape rather than portrait orientation - but maybe I'm old fashioned😊) Looks like a good news story in a nice area. Keep up the good work Mark Jim

It's been overcast and raining so I can't go outside with my camera to capture photos with a better camera. Waiting for the weather to improve. Two Styles. Style 15 fps publish at 30 fps Style 30 fps publish at 60 fps Missing Style 25 fps publish at 50 fps (just modify one of the others to .040 for slide and dissolve time). 28. Last night was a lot of fun. Show and Tell of my grandkids with the Wizard (I cheated here with a version of "Over The Rainbow" after the cottage crashes). Finally, I showed a PTE show of our latest trip. After all three, I finally untied our friends from the sofa and everyone went home with a big smile on their face! I like the rendition above! A final note (for today): Aleina responds quickly with help should you get stuck on using any of the templates. John

  29. Hi John, Thank you for sharing the result of using the project! It turned out great and very fun! In fact, there is no limitation on the use of projects in the age group. Of course, I can’t know how exactly other people use my projects. But there are those, like you, who show me the results. And I have definitely already seen 3 congratulations for adults from the Minions project. According to the statistics available to me, it is used for adults even more often than for children. It looks very creative and bright for cheerful, positive people! I can’t help but show you a screenshot of one of these congratulations. In my opinion, it perfectly matches the character of the birthday boy. There are different options for using projects. I want to share with you an interesting way to congratulate friends or colleagues that my friend came up with. She used my Christmas project with Teddy Bears. She inserted photos of her friends into different slides, exported these slides as images and she got a lot of original greeting cards. They all turned out to be individual, but designed in the same style. All friends were delighted. Maybe someone will find this idea useful for simultaneously congratulating a large number of people.
